Eggless Cookie Dough
- Cookie dough refers to a blend of cookie ingredients which has been mixed into a malleable form which has not yet been hardened by heat. The dough is often then separated and the portions baked to individual cookies, or eaten as is.

Jeweled Persian Saffron Cookies
The recipe that I modified from the Toronto Star is filled with currant and cranberry bursts wrapped in a decadent saffron-spiked shortbread base. As written, it apparently makes about 8 dozen small cookies. I baked off 18 and froze the rest of the dough and it turned out to be the right course of action - they're rich so the silver dollar size is perfect!
Farm Birthday Cake
07/2011: Flavor was Yellow Buttermilk Cake with Eggless Cookie Dough Filling. It was iced in Vanilla Buttercream and decorated with fondant. The plaid middle tier was airbrushed. The tractor and Pablo (from the Backyardigans) were modeled out of gumpaste.

Snowgirl Christmas Cookie
This was my very favorite cookie. I figured out the right proportions for her face, so that made a big difference. The polka dots are white non-pareils set in a little indention made with a stylus. The luster dust & sparkles were an afterthought, so it was pretty tricky getting that done around the face. Getting the thread on the buttons was also pretty trying, but I had a blast doing everything! Thanks for looking!
Christmas Cupcake Cookies
I can't seem to stop making cookies! Technically I was done for the season, but after my friend Diane introduced me to Flickr and I saw all of the amazing work, I just had to make some more. I couldn't find a cutter for the "candy", and not being a patient enough person to order a cutter, I just made a template and cut them out.

Rusted Racism
I found this along with a number of other similar items in a bin filled with iron scrap at a Flea Market.
People (black & white) were searching the bin for items. I was born and raised in the south, but I had never seen such a display of racist items. I looked around and no one, regardless of race seemed the least bit troubled.
I wondered why someone would sell &/or buy such items. I snapped the picture and decided to do some research.
Here is a few excerpts from one article I ran across:
===============
The Garbage Man: Why I Collect Racist Objects
by David Pilgrim, Curator, Jim Crow Museum
I am a garbage collector, racist garbage. For three decades I have collected items that defame and belittle Africans and their American descendants. I have a parlor game, "72 Pictured Party Stunts," from the 1930s. One of the game's cards instructs players to, "Go through the motions of a colored boy eating watermelon." The card shows a dark black boy, with bulging eyes and blood red lips, eating a watermelon as large as he is. The card offends me, but I collected it and 4,000 similar items that portray blacks as Coons, Toms, Sambos, Mammies, Picaninnies, and other dehumanizing racial caricatures. I collect this garbage because I believe, and know to be true, that items of intolerance can be used to teach tolerance.
*****************************
All racial groups have been caricatured in this country, but none have been caricatured as often or in as many ways as have black Americans. Blacks have been portrayed in popular culture as pitiable exotics, cannibalistic savages, hypersexual deviants, childlike buffoons, obedient servants, self-loathing victims, and menaces to society. These anti-black depictions were routinely manifested in or on material objects: ashtrays, drinking glasses, banks, games, fishing lures, detergent boxes, and other everyday items. These objects, with racist representations, both reflected and shaped attitudes towards African Americans. Robbin Henderson, director of the Berkeley Art Center, said, "derogatory imagery enables people to absorb stereotypes; which in turn allows them to ignore and condone injustice, discrimination, segregation, and racism."2 She was right. Racist imagery is propaganda and that propaganda was used to support Jim Crow laws and customs.
=============
Where is the Jim Crow Museum located?
The museum is located in the Starr Building, room 314, at Ferris State University, in Big Rapids, Michigan. Big Rapids is fifty miles north of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Q:
What is in the museum?
A:
The museum is a room housing over two thousand Jim Crow Era artifacts. The museum's holdings are of two types. First, there is the Jim Crow memorabilia -- signs, tickets, brochures, photographs, and books -- that promoted segregation. Second, are caricatured everyday items, for example, Mammy candles, Nellie fishing lures, Picaninny ashtrays, Sambo masks, Coon toys, and Golliwog marbles. The museum demonstrates how racist ideas and anti-Black images dominated American culture. It also shows how these images and ideas have resurfaced in recent years.
Q:
I have some of these items in my home,
does that make me a racist?
A:
No, it does not. There are many reasons why people collect these contemptible collectibles. Some people, Blacks and Whites, buy these pieces in the hope of reselling them at a huge profit. The prices of these items have escalated in the past two decades. A Sambo clock that sold for $12 in 1975, might sell for $350 in 2000. Some people, mainly Whites, collect because of the nostalgia. We see this with collectors of Mammy cookie jars. Some Blacks collect this material to remind them of America's racist past. There are also those, ourselves included, who have built large collections for educational purposes.
===============
I apologize if my photograph offends anyone. One of the purposes of photography is to capture slices of life. I took photos of other items at this flea market, but none sparked my interest or curiosity like the image captured in this one.
I expect that some form of bigotry will always be part of the human race. That is a truth each one of use must face individually and collectively. We will all be held personally accountable for our part in these matters.
Darius Riley
Things Darius must try to remember, and repeat over and over in his head,,,,
We do not have a doorbell. I will not bark each time I hear one on TV.
I will not play tug-of-war with Mom's underwear while she's on the toilet.
The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff....(just let it go...let it go...)
I do not need to suddenly stand straight up while I'm lying under the coffee table.
I will not roll my toys behind the fridge.
I will shake the rainwater out of my coat before entering my house.
I will not eat the cats' food, the cat's poop or anything belonging to the cat. (Just keep away from the cat at all times...)
I will stop trying to find the few remaining pieces of clean carpeting in the home when I am about to throw up.
The garbage pail is not a cookie jar.
When in the car, I will not insist on having the window rolled down when it's raining outside.
I will not steal Chrissy's underwear and dance all over the back yard with it.
My head does not belong inside of the refrigerator.
I will not bury Lisa's shoes in the back yard no matter how bad they smell!
I will not chew on every thing I see no matter how much I may want to.

Some people have suggested that God wrote the universe in Lisp. As an athiest (with regards to God - Lisp is a whole different matter) that doesn't really fly for me. What I can say is that nature has some stunning representations of recursion and I like to think that each of the tiny blobs in this photo is representative of a fixed point of a function called cauliflower.
Generally speaking I don't really like the taste of cauliflower, but I find it works nicely in vegetable curry so I now, for the first time ever, had an excuse to buy this wonderful variant. Quite the most lovelly vegatable I have ever had the pleasure to own :D
It's not often I can relate my dinner back to programming :-D Perhaps emacs needs a cookbook mode.
Update: It's now not clear if this is a cauliflower or a broccoli, or whether it is just the third of this family. Over outstanding questions include: "Did it evolve by natural selection or by artificial selection (human influence)?"

First Bento Lunch
I saw some Bento lunch photos, then saw the various Bento groups, Googled "Bento" and saw the cutest stuff ever! I even saw an Animal Crossing Bento Box. Oh my gosh!
Well I have ziplock containers! They're small, no idea what size. Maybe.. 8 ounces? I have no idea to be honest.
So on the left is spinach salad with carrots and radishes. The wrapped thing under the radish heart is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, cut with a hand shaped cookie cutter. I used the butt-end of the bread, that was hard to cut since it's 12-grain kind haha. Seeds were falling all over the place.
Then a hard boiled egg. I think I'll try tea-dyed eggs later or tomorrow. Too worn out to work on them right now.
Heart shaped cucumber for happiness.
The right bowl is sliced apples dipped in lime juice (I coudlnt' find any lemon juice, so hopefully they aren't crappy.) Another heart shaped radish on top, and my first try at rice balls.
Brown rice with soy sauce squished in. They held up really well, I used Saran Wrap to squish them into ball shape and plopped them into the bowl. I have the other half of the little rice boil bag in the fridge, shaped for tomorrow's lunch! Seems like an awful lot of rice, even though it says there's just two servings in the bag and this is only half. Eek.
Since I'm not going anywhere with my cute little packed lunch except for the livingroom, I left the salt and salad dressing in the fridge.
It only took about 30 minutes to put this and the one for my rats together. I spent about half the time staring in the fridge debating what to fix. Then googling how to make a rice ball, cooking the rice and eggs takes about 8 minutes but it all overlapped.
This is much more fun than plopping it all on a plate or trying to fix lunch when I'm really hungry.
how to make the perfect hard boiled fresh egg. VI.
after 6-ish minutes in boiling water the egg yolk is best described as "soft-boiled". while this is perfectly cooked to my taste, if you like hard yolks, you might want to cook for a minute longer.

Popcorn of the day
Perhaps it’s farmers’ intuition, or maybe it’s because we just love freshly popped corn so much, but having it on our menus was always in the plan, and now it’s much more than just something you eat at the movies.
We start with fresh, unprocessed whole kernel popcorn (an actual variety of corn grown by farmers!) air-popped fresh and topped with our homemade mixes of seasonings, spices, herbs or sweet flavors for a great appetizer, and yes, even a great accompaniment to entrees! The flavor of the popcorn changes each day, so that there aren’t two days in a row of the same taste.
All flavors/combos (but Old Bay) are original recipe, fresh ground spice blends.
* Ranch style – a traditional flavor of vegetable-inspired flavors, with a slightly creamy
* BBQ spice – a savory and strong flavor with a nice balance of texture and spice
* Cinnamon brown sugar (also used to enhance bacon lollipops) – sweet and reminiscent of childhood cookies or cinnamon toast
* Mexican Chocolate (similar to Abuelita flavors) – rich chocolate ‘powder’
* Old Bay Butter – a truly Maryland tradition, suggested by the servers to complement to the crabcakes or a fresh fish dish, or even the lobster mac n’ cheese!
* Rosemary Parmesan – see the recipe in the Sun article
xmas cookies - mantecado(from Barcelona)
last sunday i had fun by its in the bathroom...coffee&mantecado.
ahh and i dreamt bout it..i was buying mantecados from airport! :P it was fckng funny!
Mantecado
Mexico
In Mexico, these are traditionally served at weddings and celebrations. The cookies themselves are small balls usually made with pecans. They are known in the United States as Mexican wedding cookies.
Philippines
In the Philippines, a number of local variants on the traditional polvoron recipe have been made. Well known variants include polvoron with casuy (cashew nut), and polvoron with pinipig (beaten young green rice, similar to rice crispies). There's even strawberry, chocolate and cookies-and-cream polvoron.
Spain
Mantecado is a Spanish shortbread, very similar to polvoron. The name mantecado comes from manteca de cerdo iberico (fat of Iberian pig) with which they are made. These days there are options different from animal fat, like polvoron and mantecado made with olive oil.
United States
Sometimes called Pan de Polvo, it is made with anise in the south Texas region

My Raw Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
My Raw Oatmeal Raisin Cookies!
Ingredients:
1 cup raw rolled oats
1/2 cup raw walnuts (and some extra if you want to put on top)
10 large medjool dates (pitted ~ more or less depending on how moist they are)
1/2 cup raisins
Directions:
Place whole rolled oats in food processor and blend till it is almost like a powder. I like to still have little pieces of the oats in things so I don’t leave it on for too long. Add the walnuts and the dates. Leave on till it’s the consistency you like. Remove and put in a bowl. Add raisins and mix with your hands. Form into cookies. I put a piece of walnut on each cookie, but you don’t have too. It doesn’t need any sweetener, but if you want them sweeter you can add a little raw agave nectar or sprinkle a little sugar in the raw on top. You can also add cinnamon and or dried cranberries. Oh, and cookie cutters would work nice with these! No sugar, no flour, no baking =) TaaaaDaaaa!!!
Cookies
In the United States and Canada, a cookie is a small, flat-baked treat, usually containing fat, flour, eggs and sugar. In most English-speaking countries outside North America, the most common word for this is biscuit; in many regions both terms are used, while in others the two words have different meanings

Gooey Fudgy Cookies!
Soo rich and Chewy and Gooey and Fudgy...Yep Chocolately Goodness!
3 cups powdered sugar
2/3 cup unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 to 4 large egg whites, at room temperature
1 Tbsp. pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups bittersweet chocolate chips
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line two rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper (or silpat mats). If you use parchment paper, give it a light swoosh of nonstick spray.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together powdered sugar with cocoa powder and salt. Whisk in egg whites (start w/ just two) and vanilla extract and beat just until the batter is moistened. You’re looking for a brownie-like, thick and fudgy batter consistency. If it seems too thick, add another egg white– then a 4th one if it still seems too thick. Gently stir in chocolate chips.
3. Spoon batter onto the prepared baking sheets in 12 evenly spaced mounds per cookie sheet. I like to use a spring-release cookie scoop. Bake about 14 minutes, until the tops are glossy and lightly cracked. Slide the parchment paper (with the cookies) onto wire racks. Let cookies cool completely, and store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Yield: 24 cookies
NOTE....... Yes these are Flourless...
The recipe is right....They do spread alot so place them a few inches apart on your cookie sheet!...
And yes even spray your parchment paper with nonstick spray..mine still tried to stick some what but we got er done :)
