Blue Moon (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 8)

Blue Moon (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 8)

The Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter backlist lights up the night.

In her eighth adventure, Anita Blake can't turn her back on a former lover during the full moon. Especially since he's behind bars-and he's a werewolf...

Anita Blake makes a living raising the dead. She also executes rogue vampires and villains among the local were-folk. Marks bind her to Jean-Claude, the Master vampire of St. Louis and her lover, and to her ex-fiance, a powerful werewolf who heads up the local pack. Anita shares some of their magic, and her own power over the dead keeps growing. But so does the body count and the situations that force Anita to bend or break her own rules.
In Blue Moon, Anita's ex Richard is jailed in Tennessee, accused of rape. When Anita arrives with a lawyer and an entourage of vampires and 'weres' supplied by Jean-Claude, it's clear that something is rotten in Myerton. The local cops are corrupt, and the trolls Richard was studying are threatened. But if she sticks around to investigate, the local Master vampire will attack her and her friends. The local werewolf clan isn't rushing to welcome her either, and her self-control is going to the, um, wolves.
Blue Moon is the eighth book in Hamilton's Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series; newcomers should start with earlier books. The protagonists' development and their relationships to each other and to the large cast of continuing secondary characters are what make these books so compelling. Be warned--there's steamy sex and graphic violence here, though Anita does reflect on her moral position. But if dark urban fantasy featuring those who hunt the night appeals, pounce on this series. --Nona Vero

wolfman 8th frame seven ten split

wolfman 8th frame seven ten split

based on actual events.

In human form Wolfman wears ill fitting, "indie rock medium" vintage clothing... easily ripped apart in the heat of a full moon changeover.... it's alright though because Wolfman gets his clothing cheap at the goodwill, and in the event of a sudden fullmoon changeover he can rely on his fur coat to cover his naughty bits.

Alley regulations maintains that Wolfman must however wear bowling shoes, and socks... so he brings an extra pair with him. He, after all does not want athlete's foot.

I was witness to this particular seven ten split about three years ago, shortly before wolfman moved to Greenpoint Brooklyn. It was at Diversey Rock n Bowl, it was myself, Beth, Steve W, and of course Wolfman... Beth was thoroughly destroying the lot us at bowling and rubbing it in our faces. The boys weren't taking it well at all.. some grumbling was heard between sips of cheap bowling alley beers. Suddenly an eerie light shone in through the windows of the bowling alley.. Wolfman, who was hairy as it was by day, but not a very good bowler suddenly lurched forward, and in what can best be described as a "Tazmanian Devil type flurry" spun about recklessly. All I saw was streak of brown with what seemed to be shreds of Pabst Blue Ribbon t-shirt flying off of it. In a flash the action stopped and to our amazement, standing there, panting, bathed in a blue glow stood Wolfman, much furrier and well built than we remember ever seeing him.

Calmly as could be, he walked to the table next to me, took a sip of his bowling pin shaped bottle of Budweiser, smiled, then proceeded to bowl the pants off of everybody in our presence. First he annihalated our group of amatuers, then crashed league plays destroying records, teams of hipsters were literally devoured... it was a spectacle to behold. We left the place in a shambles then headed over to Green Mill for a nightcap.

I still keep in touch with Wolfman from time to time, he's a chef in Greenwich Village nowadays and has aspirations to open his own Honey Farm.

Blue Moon

A million years ago I worked for a screen printer where we printed some Blue Moon shirts for Coors Brewing Company. I always had liked the logo, but we were kind of a crappy screen printer, and it gave us fits trying to print that job. I remember the back of the t-shirt said "Moon Me" in Matrix Extra Bold. That was my first exposure to Matrix and I've liked it ever since. At the time though, we didn't have the font and for some reason the ad department working on the design didn't supply it with the file. When there was an issue with the weight of a stroke they'd applied to the lettering, we had to redraw it by hand for some reason. Anyway, thus began my love affair with Matrix. It wasn't until years later that I could afford to get it, and it still remains one of my favorite extra bold typefaces.

Meanwhile, when I first saw the art, I wanted to try Blue Moon, but after we finally got the job printed, I didn't want to see the damn thing again. Many years later when I saw that it was still on the market, I thought about trying it, but by that time I'd moved well beyond Coors Brewing Company, and I was afraid it'd suck. Then again, i like Killians Irish Red, so maybe I should give it a try.

Anyway, this is all the stuff that goes on in my head when I see things like this - all the accumulated dust bunnies of jobs long gone. I still have a soft spot for Janus Funds (easy to print, easy to work with, nice catchy art) and a deep abiding hatred for Le Peep restaurants ("Chicken Shirt" just isn't fucking funny!)
