Vancouver Dining Table
- a table at which meals are served; "he helped her clear the dining table"; "a feast was spread upon the board"
A table is a type of furniture comprising an open, flat surface supported by a base or legs. It may be used to hold articles such as food or papers at a convenient or comfortable height when sitting, and is therefore often used in conjunction with chairs.
(Dining Tables) The first dining tables of which survivors remain are the type known as refectory tables. They are made usually of oak, and one of the earliest, at Penshurst Place in Kent, has a typical thick top of joined planks supported on three separate trestles.

I can paint!
Checked out this great place in glass table repair last week called Raw Canvas. It is a funky space (brick walls, big wooden beams, long share tables, well-stocked bar) where you can have some tapas (cheese and meats), a drink (great wine selection) and then..the main event....you take your glass of wine to the other end of the room where there are 20 or 30 easels set up and smock-cloaked 'artists' creating magic on canvas. You choose/buy the size of canvas that suits your idea/budget and they set you up with an array of paints, brushes and other tips and techniques and you go for it. Great atmosphere as people check out each other's creations. We were really impressed with not only our piece, but with all the works of art heading home with their owners. It was fun for two, but would be great as a group outing. I kept thinking that it would be a great memory for anyone visiting Vancouver...maybe they could paint one of their favourite Vancouver landmarks, like we did.
Dining at MARKET at Shangri-La
I was lucky enough to receive a hefty gift certificate to MARKET at Shangri-La, Vancouver’s newest (and tallest) hotel. I invited a few friends to join me for a mid-week fancy night out. If you’re thinking of going to MARKET, make your reservations early – the only time I could reserve that week was 8:30 pm on a Wednesday night.
The restaurant is split into a few different sections; we were seated in the “sophisticated fine-dining room.” The bar area was more casual and catered to the after-work suit crowd (they even had their laptop plugged in – I guess drinks and eats in a swanky bar is the norm for that crew).
Our table ordered a bit of everything to maximize our shot at the good life. All the dishes were delish, but there were a few stand-outs: butternut squash soup with mushrooms and chives; truffle mashed potatoes; and cheesecake with roasted figs and concorde grape sorbet.
The food was rich, we never felt rushed during dinner, and the presentation was creative. Merci, Jean-Georges!
