White seamless paper, which has a 550EX gelled blue, on the right is a Rotolux 70cm deep octa which is mounted on my Quadra adapter....which has a 580EXII stuffed into it. I needed the small flash as it has a vastly quicker flash duration than the bigger strobes......around 1/10,000th at 1/8 power setting, great for freezing action without any motion blur.
Power for the speedlites was 1/128th the b/g and 1/16th to 1/8th for the main.
5DMkII, 1002.8macro. I started with a 70-200L/2.8IS and changed after a few shots.
I don't own a hood for the macro, so I hand held a hood over the front of the lens from my 24-70L to stop any lens flare.

"railings" wouldnt suffice here

I couldn't imagine building such a grand deck for entertaining, only to leave guests trying to ballance wine glasses on a measley 5.5" railing board. Instead, there are equally sized table-tops, comfortable for standing at and also for setting stools at, benches with angled back rests, sized long enough for dining tables with leaves inserted, and an 8' wide staircase for plenty of decoration or transitioning.

Another in my gerbera daisy series. A couple people asked on the last one I posted whether I used studio lighting, so I thought I would describe my rather complicated set up for this shot. A) Put daisies in a vase on my dining room table; B) take picture. The light is indirect light from my dining room window and the background is my dining room wall. That's about as sophisticated as I get when it comes to lighting! I did add a little vignetting to darken the corners, which gives it a little of a spotlight effect, but that's about it.

La ragazza era alta e magra con la pelle slavata, gli occhi bistrati e i capelli corvini, tagliati corti da una parte e lunghi dall'altra: un taglio asimmetrico da parrucchiere chic. Le gambe da trampoliere erano infilate in un paio di fuseaux neri e di stivaletti provocanti. Mezzi sbronzi, si atteggiavano in quel modo sfrenato e volutamente selvaggio a cui si abbandonano le persone quando sanno di essere osservate: una roba da video musicale. Ed Emma penso a quanto sarebbe stato divertente solcare a grandi passi il pavimento del ristorante fino al loro tavolo e randellarli selvaggiamente con i burritos di giornata. Due manone si posarono sulle sue spalle. «Che gnocca!» fece Ian e le appoggio il mento sulla testa. «Chi e quella?». «Non ne ho la minima idea». Emma sfrego via il segno che aveva lasciato sulla vetrata con il naso. «Ho perso il conto». «Allora e una nuova». «Dexter ha una scarsissima capacita di concentrazione. Come un neonato o una scimmia. Bisogna fargli dondolare davanti agli occhi qualcosa che brilla». Pero quella ragazza e proprio quello, penso lei: qualcosa che brilla. «Allora sei d'accordo con la teoria che alle ragazze piacciono le carogne?». «Dex non e una carogna. E un cretino». «Allora alle ragazze piacciono i cretini?». Ora Dexter si era infilato l'ombrellino da cocktail dietro l'orecchio, e la tipa, estasiata, si stava scompisciando dalle risate di fronte a quel colpo di genio. «A quanto pare...» rispose Emma. E subito si domando che bisogno avesse di sbatterle in faccia la sua nuova brillante vita metropolitana. Il tempo di accoglierlo in aeroporto di ritorno dalla Thailandia, scattante e rapato e nero come il carbone, e aveva capito che una relazione fra loro due sarebbe stata impensabile. A lui era accaduto di tutto, a lei poco o niente. Comunque questa sarebbe stata la terza ragazza, amichetta, quello che era, che conosceva nel giro di nove mesi, e Dexter gliele portava come fa un cane con un piccione in bocca. Cos'era: una vendetta a freddo per qualcosa? Perche lei si era laureata con dei voti piu alti? Ci pensava al male che le stava facendo, seduto al tavolo 9 avvinghiato a quella? «E se andassi tu, Ian? E la tua zona». «Ha chiesto di te».

Ian was in the doorway. «That guy’s here again». «What guy?». «Your friend, the handsome one. He’s got some girl with him». And immediately Emma knew which guy Ian was talking about. She watched them from the kitchen, nose pressed against the greasy glass of the circular window as they slumped insolently in a central booth, sipping gaudy drinks and laughing at the menu. The girl was long and slim with pale skin, black eye make-up and black, black hair, cut short and expensively asymmetrical, her long legs in sheer black leggings and high-ankled boots. Both a little drunk, they were behaving in that self-consciously wild and reckless way that people slip into when they know they’re being watched: pop-video behaviour, and Emma thought how satisfying it would be to stride out onto the restaurant floor and cosh them both with tightly packed burritos-of-the-day.
Two big hands draped on her shoulders. «Schhhhhwing», said Ian, resting his chin on her head. «Who is she?» «No idea». Emma rubbed at the mark her nose had made on the window. «I lose track». «She’s a new one then». «Dexter has a very short attention span. Like a baby. Or a monkey. You need to dangle something shiny in front of him». That’s what this girl is, she thought: something shiny. «So do you think it’s true what they say? About girls liking bastards». «He’s not a bastard. He’s an idiot». «Do girls like idiots then?»
Dexter had stuck his cocktail umbrella behind his ear now, the girl col apsing into enchanted laughter at the genius of it. «Certainly seems that way», said Emma. What was it, she wondered, this need to brandish his shiny new metropolitan life at her? As soon as she’d met him at the arrivals gate on his return from Thailand, lithe and brown and shaven-headed, she knew that there was no chance of a relationship between them. Too much had happened to him, too little had happened to her. Even so this would be the third girlfriend, lover, whatever, that she had met in the last nine months, Dexter presenting them up to her like a dog with a fat pigeon in his mouth. Was it some kind of sick revenge for something? Because she got a better degree than him? Didn’t he know what this was doing to her, sat at table nine with their groins jammed in each other’s faces? «Can’t you go, Ian? It’s your section». «He asked for you».

This picture has a lot to say. You can see my first dog, Barney. He is just a pup in this photo. I must have been really small back then. Maybe I was in elementary school. We couldn’t really play with him because he was always on a chain.

I remember the day that I came home and saw him lying dead on the ground with his tongue out. The funny thing is that I was quiet about it and didn’t cry until a few weeks later at the dinner table. I’m guessing that might be why they went ahead and got Marble. He was great to play with when he was a puppy because I could hold him close to me and think about stuff. But before long, he got big and jumpy and was put on the same chain as Barney. The two looked just like each other.

Behind Barney is the big oak tree in our back yard. This was our designated play area. You can see a tire swing hanging off of it and a big sand pile as well. There was a regular swing set on the front side of it. I remember just laying on my back and lookup up through the branches. The leaves would blow in the wind with a great sound and I could see the sky in small areas between the leaves. I loved that tree. I hope it is still standing today.

My dad was a big fire wood kind of guy. We had radiators all throughout the house, but we also had a large iron wood stove in our living room. My brother and I would come in from the snow and squeeze the water out of our gloves onto the wood stove for kicks. It was fun watching how the water would boil and turn into steam really fast. Dad would also put iron pans full of water on the stove if the air got too dry in the house.

Dad had five acres of wooded property up in Delray, West Virginia that we would go off to every now and then. He would cut down any dead trees that he found and then cut them up. My brother and I would grab the wood and haul them over to the van. We would sometimes take turns with who would stack the logs in the van while the other ran and picked up the wood. My back would kill me from bending over when I was in there. Actually, my back would kill me when I ran to get the wood as well. It was hard work.

Behind the wood tree is the cherry tree next to the green apple tree. That cherry tree had split in half, but my parents got a winch and brought it back together. The tree survived and we would still make cherry pies every year afterward. We would spend hours pitting them with a cherry pitter. Mom really knew how to make those pies really sweet. She would also make apple pies too.

Behind the cherry and apple trees is a shack. There are 4 beds in there. Actually, they were remains of beds. There was wood with rope that you would put a mattress on top of, but it was mainly full of junk. There was a chicken coup attached to the back made of metal. Only dad would go in to feed them and get the eggs. Behind that building is the old willow tree.

The building closest to the camera is the garage. I would spend hours up in the attic of the garage just looking through my parents junk. It was really hot up in there. Sometimes I would just stand at the top of the ladder and look out the window at the top just looking at the back yard. I was afraid of heights so getting all the way up into the attic meant that I would have to get back on the ladder. Getting on a ladder to go down is harder then getting off when you are at the top. I still have problems with the step ladder up to my attic today.

how it comes apart

this shows how the middle section comes apart. We used craft boxes with lids as we didnt have any cake dummies availale to us. The height of the box wasnt tall enough so my hubby made another round of board to make it taller. All a bit messy looking but easily disguised with a fabric sleeve.The plates are 7 inches, 11, 15 and 19 inches. There is a 15 inch plate at the base to allow for easy lifting from the table. The middle sections are approx 3.5 inchs high and the wood for each plate is 10mm thick so that a standard ribbon can be glued and the colour scheme can be changed. I am having more sleeves of different fabric made. I managed to fit around 85 smaller sized cupcakes on the whole stand the cupcake papers had a base of 45mm. The bride wanted them more petite than a standard size. I imagine it will fit around 60 standard sized cupcakes. I did make sure taht the top stand was big enough to fit a 6 inch cutting cake on it though
