2007 Japanese Drama - Hana Yori Dango (I + II) - w/ English Subtitle

LANGUAGE(Audio) : Japanese SUBTITLE : Chinese / English (On/Off) REGION : 2 Disc/ALL REGION (NTSC) The Story : Season I: Makino Tsukushi is the only poor student at Eitoku Gakuen, the school of the ridiculously rich and privileged that is ruled by Flower 4 or F4, a group of four boys who come from extremely powerful families: Domyoji Tsukasa, the leader and heir of the Domyoji World Finance Group; Hanazawa Rui, the introverted son of a large company; Nishikado Sojiro, a player who is the heir of a tea ceremony school; and Mimasaka Akira, a madam killer with ties to the underground. If a student gets on the F4's bad side, he/she gets a red notice and is bullied and driven out of school. Makino hopes to pass her days quietly-- without drawing any attention to herself-- but one day, she stands up to Domyoji in defense of her friend. The next day, Makino gets the dreaded red notice. Even though she is harassed, Makino decides to keep going to school because she is a ?tough weed?. She declares war right back on the F4. Her resolve gets the attention of her crush Hanazawa Rui and oddly enough, rouses romantic feelings in her worst enemy, Domyoji Tsukasa. Season II: This second season of Hana Yori Dango picks up right after Domyoji leaves for New York. After confessing to Domyoji, Makino has not spoken to him for a year. Rui and the other members of F4 try and help Makino meet Domyoji again by going to New York for the christmas holidays. Though F4 and Makino meet Domyoji again, he has become a completely different person?and so they leave for Japan. Some time later?Domyoji's mother annouces that they will be returning to Japan. There?they hold a giant super-rich and classy birthday party for Domyoji and announce something very important. Domyoji, like in the first season, is engaged to a rich girl and heir. The only difference is that they are to be wed soon. What will Makino do?

Midnigth mood while the morning mist is forming and enveloping the late summer landscape of Senja, North Norway during the sunrise.

This timelapse is shot between 01:40 and 02:40 in the morning of 2 August 2009. The sun is below the horizon as the season of midnight sun is just over. The pinkish flowers in the foreground of the opening are Fireweed (Chamerion angustifolium), locally known as Geitrams. The lake in the backround is Grasmyrskogvatnet (roughly The Grassy Mire Forest Lake).

No Tripod
Timelapse shot without a tripod! I thought it would be too much bother to take it with me on the plane and boat from Oslo to Senja. Boy did I regret it when I arrived! But I made do with a wooden panel. It was more than sturdy enough, although it didn't lend the agility of a tripod. But then again, when shooting scenery you usually don't need to tilt the camera in odd ways...

The timelapse is made by a humble Nikon D60, holding the firing button down with a very custom made wooden plank and some buckets of paint for weight... :p The things you do when you don't have the proper equipment - like an automatic shutter releaser... Oh yeah. For the technique to work, you need the release mech. set to "continuous" and a relatively long shutter speed. I used around 2.5 sec per frame for this film. Some sequences are also shot with 2 sec per frame.

Hangups
I did have a few hangups, though, where the D60 stopped shooting, so I had to edit parts together to avoid showing off the glitsches. Without a proper tool to edit "larger than HD" images, i resorted to Adobe Bridge CS4 and the regular OS X file system to edit the project together. I did try FCP, but although it can edit HD, it proved way too cumbersome to set up for the job - especially since FCP doesn't work well with image sequences and matting and resizing of these for the codec I needed.

The camera was set to make small size JPEG's, as there is no need to shoot anything larger for HD video. Larger pictures would only take longer time to process, not to mention that you'd probably have to use extra processor power to size them smaller.

How I Did It
When I was done shooting I put each descrete image sequence into its own respective folder. I then assembled them quickly with Quicktime Pro to see my result, and spreading each part over further folders as I saw glitches and time jumps in the sequeces. Then I made a rough editors desicion list in humble text edit, just to know the sequence of the sequences (LOLZz d'Oh).

Then I started renaming each sequence of images in each respective folder with numbers starting from 1 with the first sequence in the EDL, and simply continued renaming the other folders following the list in the text file (the EDL). There's a nifty tool for this in Bridge called the "Rename Tool". Who could guess!

999 Images
When this was done, I simply moved all the renamed files from their respective folders and into the same folder. It actually ended with exactly 999 images, thus the first sequence was renamed 001.jpg to 107.jpg, and the second sequence with the hayballs renamed from 108.jpg to 206.jpg, and so on.

You can use the built in file handling system in Bridge to make directories and move files and so on, but somehow I ended up using the regular Mac Finder (Microsoft Explorer equivalent) for most of these tasks.

When all the images where aptly numbered to their respective sequence and moved to the same folder, I used Quicktime Pro to assemble the files into one large film, and then Adobe Media Encoder to encode it into the finished 720p HD mp4 film in H.264 codec.

"Pre" Post Processing
I did do some "post processing" of the images, by the way. In this case it's more like pre processing. I had some dust on the lens that had to be removed "in post", and without regular postprocessing programs like After Effects or Combustion, I simply resorted to trusty old Photoshop. It has a rather nifty batching tool, and thus it was simple to record a few actions, pointing out the culprits and removing them with the "dust and scratsches" filter in a few simple Photoshop batches. In retrospect, I probably could have done a lot more, like image sharpening and colour grading, but I didn't bother - and probably won't now that the film is published.

1. Deadly Tornado in Greensburg Kansas caused damage to over 95% of the town. There's a lot of concern for family members they can't locate.
2. Florida counties disaster areas, following tornadoes that killed at least 20 people and left hundreds of homes destroyed.
3. Eagle Pass, Maverick County, Texas. The first, at about 6:00 PM damaged or destroyed 300 homes in Piedras Negras, Mexico, just across the Rio Grande River. Three people were killed and about 80 injured.
4. About 50 tornadoes touched down from western Nebraska to the Texas Panhandle. One of them destroyed a house 2 miles southeast of Elmwood, Beaver County, Oklahoma and killed a 59-year couple
5.At least 18 people died in five separate tornadoes. In Enterprise, Coffee County, Alabama, five boys and three girls were killed in the destruction of Enterprise High School.
6. A tornado hit the Gentilly section of New Orleans causing one death and 29 injuries.
7.The 20 deaths were in Lake County, at two locations 20 miles apart. Two separate tornadoes were involved. The first one at the west edge of the county caused seven deaths in the rural south end of Lady Lake. The second tornado, at the eastern end of the county, killed 13 in the Paisley-Lake Mack area. A third tornado produced F1 damage in Volusia County.
8. First killer tornado of the year cut a path across the southeast part of New Iberia, Louisiana. Two women were killed and 15 people were hospitalized as two dozen or more homes were destroyed.

Deux tornades separees etaient impliquees. Le premier au bord occidental du comte a cause les sept deces dans l'extremite du sud rurale de Madame Lake. La deuxieme tornade, a l'extremite orientale du comte, a tue 13 dans la region de Mack de Paisley-Lac. Une troisieme tornade a produit les dommages F1 dans le comte de Volusia. 8. La premiere tornade de tueur de l'annee a coupe un chemin a travers la partie du sud-est de nouvelle Iberie, Louisiane. Deux femmes ont ete tuees et 15 personnes ont ete hospitalisees pendant que deux douzaine maisons ou plus etaient detruits.
