Laser Printer For Photo Printing
- (Photo Printer) A photo printer, also called snapshot printer, is a computer printer that is specifically designed to print high quality digital photos on photo paper. These printers usually have a very high number of nozzles and are capable of printing droplets as small as 2 picoliters.
(Photo printer) In computing, a printer is a peripheral which produces a hard copy (permanent readable text and/or graphics) of documents stored in electronic form, usually on physical print media such as paper or transparencies.
Photographic printing is the process of producing a final image on paper for viewing, using chemically sensitized paper.
- electrostatic printer that focuses a laser beam to form images that are transferred to paper electrostatically
- A laser printer is a common type of computer printer that rapidly produces high quality text and graphics on plain paper.
- (Laser Printers) Laser Printers use fine powder particles and can produce full colour images (photo quality) to print onto special transfer paper, before pressing onto a garment using a flat heat press.
- A printer linked to a computer producing good-quality printed material by using a laser to form a pattern of electrostatically charged dots on a light-sensitive drum, which attract toner (or dry ink powder). The toner is transferred to a piece of paper and fixed by a heating process
Photo A Day 2009 - 005 (6th Jan)
Shot for a weekly photo challenge on the theme of "Home". I went for the comedy angle with this photo.
To be honest, I stole the idea! :o Well, at least used it as inspiration. :) At least a decade ago I saw a photo (won an award of some sort), and was done ,much much much better, and on a larger scale with better room, floor, shadows, cutouts, lighting, etc. So this is my scaled down version of it.
The photo was made by creating a mousehole, with eyes, and a Home Sweet Home sign in an art/design program (DrawPlus 8), then printed on a laser printer and cut out with scissors and a craft knife. It was then stuck to the kitchen skirting board.
The cat silhouette was made from some cardboard packaging in the recycle bin. You can see by the mutant cat outline the reason why I take photos rather than draw/paint.
Finally it was lit by a small amount of ambient light creaping around the blinds/curtains, but mainly by an old Vivitar 283 flashgun. A bit of jiggling around with the flash and cardboard kitty position created the shadow. A second Vivitar 283 at half power was triggered using a slave eye and used to light the far right of the picture (this is because the main flash would be lighting/exposing for the cardboard cat.
Photoshop was mainly just convert to B&W using the channels, then a bit of levels tweaking for contrast, and one or two other minor tweaks.

for laser printing...
this is three hundred pixels of black or white. I think this technique is great for laser printing, it's like making a picture in laser printer output language.
I started with a low contrast, photo. I made an over-bright unduly-contrasty image, and then violently reduced the colour depth to 2 colours, using one of paintshoppro's error diffusion filters, in this case the "floyd-steinberg".
The critical creative components here are
1)starting off with an appropriate image, and
2)getting the spread of brightnesses right before doing the colour reduction. It's often desirable to have areas completely burned-out white, for example. Ultimately this is the process the where you create your picture.
