Deux marabouts a proximite des bassins des Aghlabides...

Edifies vers 860-862, sous le regne du souverain aghlabide Aboul Ibrahim (856-863), ils font alors partie d'une quinzaine de bassins extra-muros destines a alimenter la ville en eau. L'ampleur et l'ingeniosite de cette realisation ont de tout temps force l'admiration des voyageurs et ont valu a Kairouan le nom de « ville des citernes ». A l'origine, l'alimentation des bassins est assure par un astucieux systeme de drainage amenant les eaux de pluie ainsi que celles des affluents de l'oued Merguellil captes par l'intermediaire de petits barrages. Par la suite, la construction par le souverain fatimide Al-Muizz li-Din Allah d'un aqueduc (vers 961), amene les eaux des sources de Cherichira, localite situee a 40 kilometres de Kairouan1.

Two marabouts near basins Aghlabides ...

Built around 860-862 during the reign of the sovereign Aghlabid Aboul Ibrahim (856-863), they become part of fifteen ponds extramural intended to supply water to the city. The scale and ingenuity of this achievement have always won the admiration of travelers and have earned the name of Kairouan "the city tanks." The original supply tanks is provided by an ingenious drainage system bringing rain water as well as tributaries of the river Merguellil picked up through small dams. Subsequently, the construction by the Fatimid ruler Al-Muizz li-Din Allah aqueduct (to 961), brings the water sources Cherichira, a town 40 kilometers from Kairouan1.
