My mother has a thing for retro furniture, and has spent many an hour collecting (or creating) bit and pieces that she likes. This is a black and white cane chair she came across one day.
Sometimes I find with retro furniture is that its designed for the aesthetic, rather than for comfort. Not this chair though, not only does it looks quite nice, its fantastically comfy.

Vision 60's, a breath of fresh (retro) air to the local furniture scene. i think it's super new, cos they didn't even have a price list. the local market is saturated with loads of great contemporary furniture (& the attendant imitations & pirated copies) and traditional pieces, but nothing in between. am a big fan of the very much overlooked 60s furniture era.

splashes of color are welcomed by my eyes, in a world that is otherwise gray and white. it is a marketing ploy i fall for, almost every time i pass by this store. it's colors draw me close. it's furniture, though used, is painted a hue that makes you think of summertime.

Millenium Falcon
Millenium Falcon. I didn't understand what the purpose of the "Midi-Scale" Falcon was.....why not put guys in it? I could never make a decent looking Falcon. I never wanted to spend $100 or more on the official sets. So this is the midi scale with a few adjustments to make it for the minifigures. The cockpit is basically from the B-Wing fighter. Han sits comfortably at the controls. Under the center gun I made room for two people to sit to "man the guns" I made the radar dish smaller...it looked too big.

Bedroom Suite
Saw this at Ashley Furniture. $700 and it is nice and all, but not 100% sure I want to get it. Such a permanent decision as far as the bed goes. Also, I think I might have too much brown going on in the house. Stress level, rising.

This photo was taken in the city of Armenia in the department of Quindio in Colombia. According to my father, there is a quite a bit of small time bicycle industry in Colombia. By the labeling, there seems to be a predominance of "Benotto" and "Cicloby" brands. It's easy to imagine BMX bikes evolving under brazing into something like these baker bikes.

The water column was 600m across with walls 100m thick and was 2km high, holding approx 1 million tons of water.
When the water falls back to the surface it forms a dense radioactive cloud called a Base Surge which expands outwards at 60mph and reached heights of 300m.

Hooker Falls
Hooker Falls, Dupont National Forest, North Carolina. It was cloudy and rain was about to fall (hence the lighting conditions were in constant flux!). But, I got the D300 on the tripod and took several shots with different meter settings, aperture, and speed to find the right shot (on camera SB900 used for fill flash in the foreground). This was the best of the lot. Then, we beat feet for the parking lot about 1/2 mile away just in case the rain did come. I hope to get back here next fall and try this again.

Treasure Island, Fiji .....
...... one of the Mamanuca Islands off the coast of Viti Levu and it really is called Treasure Island!
This island is now a resort with 60 bures (individual little guest houses) .... it's a very small island and it apparently only takes ten minutes to walk all around it.
We didn't stay here, just saw it on our boat trip around the Mamanucas.
This is taken from the "big" inter-island catamaran and as it cannot come any closer to these little islands because of their surrounding coral reefs, each one sends a little boat like the one above to transfer passengers to and from their island to join the big ferry.
The catamaran acts as transport between these small islands and also to one of Fiji's main islands, Viti Levu.

Pulau Brani Island
View overlooking much of the island of Pulau Brani in Singapore's Keppel Harbour. Beyond the ships is Blakang Mati, now known as Sentosa. This was shot from the end of our block of six houses, similar to those at centre-left in the photo. At the time, the island was a base for the British Army's Royal Corps of Transport, supporting landing ships and craft; the Sergeant's Mess is on the extreme right of the photo overlooking Keppel Harbour; the Officer's Mess is at 90° to the right of this view. Image shows interior view of the John Joseph Haggarty Estate [also spelled "Haggerty"], located on Paseo del Mar on lot 5, block 1500 in Malaga Cove. J.J. Haggarty was born in London in 1864, married Bertha M. Schneider in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1901, and came to Los Angeles in 1902. Visible is the interior of the solarium, with barrel-vaulted ceiling, carved marble fireplace, tile floor and curtained entranceways. A large carpet with mixture of Italian renaissance-style and contemporary furniture decorates the room. Arched overdoor painted with mural, "Springtime" by Alba Maria Orsini. Designed by architect Armand Monaco, the expansive one-story Italianate villa with tile roof was originally built as a summer residence for the wealthy Los Angeles business merchant at a cost of $750,000. It comprised of some 30 rooms, a conservatory, formal garden, gardener's cottage, a swimming pool, private pier and two garages housing six automobiles. When the Haggerty business faltered, the mansion passed through several owners and was finally bought by Harry Wheeler, a mid-west financier who purchased the estate to house his art collection. Upon Wheeler's death the property was purchased in 1950 by the United Church of Christ and became the Neighborhood Church in 1953.

A non-profit organization that promotes the preservation of architecture on Manhattan's Upper Westside. Ruelles, 96"x72", Acrylic on canvas is 1 of 7 paintings that has toured NYC, starting at the Urban Center and also ventured down to the World Trade Center.

I fetched them from Mc Donalds Bandra Linking Road and bought them to my place in a ricksha, they are not net savvy, they have never explored the net.
They are glamorous at parties, and in normal life they are absolutely plain.Ritu Hijda was dressed in a nice printed body huffiing short shirt , jeans no make up, plain Jane.
Nishi dresses wild even when she is at home , she was in black, and a stunner.
She met my sons who left the room the moment they entered.
My daughter in law watched them for a second acknowledged their presence left the room too..
Wife had gone for a walk but met them, served them tea and biscuits and Toblerone .
My daughter was completely fascinated and is a sub editor of a womans magazine, she did a short stint at a online place called Bombay Bitch, that she left as hurriedly as she had joined them.
I told her she should do a candid piece on these new Metrosexual Hijdas, show her readers the new dimensions of the Hijda world that differs from one group to the other..

The Medford I-93 "93Fast14" project continues on the 9th weekend of bridge replacements with the demolition and replacement of the I-93 South bridge over Riverside Avenue. The bridge work was completed ahead of schedule. 13 of 14 bridges have now been replaced.

Day 233
What a busy day, especially this morning! I had to hurry to get ready for my first research interview and at the same time field calls from Shay, wait for the cleaners and furniture delivery. Feeling a bit flat out and all.
Luckily Shay came home for a while and I could head to work. I got in just in time to meet my first participant. Lucky I wasn't any later.
It feels great to be doing the next round of research interviews.
Later on I got so wrapped up in getting a backlog of stupid paperwork done that I lost track of the time. Before I realised it was almost 3:00 and I hadn't picked Celyn up from school. A few frantic calls later and I knew he was being taken care of while I headed home to get him (though I still felt like a terrible father). At that time of the afternoon the traffic is light and it was a super quick bike ride. He was fine when I collected him. Happy as Larry in fact. Phew!

Today one of my worst fears came true on our current project. We are supposed to reach substantial completion on our latest building in about a month. This means that in the next 2 weeks we need to have procured all of our furniture. It usually takes 10-12 weeks from the placing of an order, to the delivery of the furniture.
I called to check on some custom table tops we were having fabricated, that were supposed to be delivered last week. Turns out the company disconnected their telephones and fell off the face of the earth. A quick search on the web, and I found that they also vacated their office, and their building is now up for lease. And no, I'm pretty sure we won't be getting our money back.

St Wilfrid's Church, Grappenhall
History
The church is Norman in origin, built probably in the earlier part of the 12th century.A corbel table from the Norman period is visible on the south nave wall and Norman foundations were discovered during the 1873–74 restoration.
A chantry chapel was added by the Boydell family in 1334 where the south aisle now stands. From 1529 the church was largely rebuilt in local sandstone providing the nave, chancel, north aisle and a tower at the west end. In 1539 the Boydell chapel was incorporated into the south aisle. In the early 19th century the roof of the nave was raised to form a clerestory. In the 1850s the south aisle was further extended and a vestry built. There was a more substantial restoration in 1873–74 by Paley and Austin.
Structure
The church is built in red sandstone with a slate roof. Its plan consists of a west tower, a continuous nave and chancel of seven bays with clerestory, north and south aisles, a chapel at the east end of the south aisle, a vestry and a south porch. The tower has a Tudor west door, buttresses and belfry windows of two lights. Its top is embattled, without pinnacles or gargoyles.
Fittings and furniture
A window in the south aisle includes 14th century glass which was rearranged in 1834 and there are fragments of medieval glass elsewhere. In the chancel is an effigy of Sir William Boydell, who died in 1275. This was brought in from the churchyard and restored in 1874. The rectangular bowl of the Norman font was found beneath the nave in the 1874 restoration. Built into the east wall of the north aisle are a piscina and a credence table. In the church are a holy table dated 1641 and the royal coat of arms of Queen Anne. Three stained glass windows in the south aisle are by Mayer of Munich.The church plate includes a flagon inscribed 1765 and a chalice and two patens inscribed 1797.The ring consists of eight bells. Four of these were cast by Henry Bagley II around 1700. A further bell dates from 1890 by John Taylor & Co, while the remaining three were cast in 1899 by Mears & Stainbank at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry.The parish registers date from 1573.
External features
Outside the church, immediately below the west window is a carving of a cat and it is suggested that this might be the origin of the Cheshire cat.In the churchyard is a sundial dated 1714 which is listed Grade II.At the entrance to the churchyard, also listed Grade II are stocks, the endstones probably dating from the 17th century.
William Wilberforce House High Street Kingston Upon Hull Yorkshire
William Wilberforce (24 August 1759 – 29 July 1833), British politician, philanthropist and a leader of the movement to abolish the slave trade was born in this 17th century house.
Apart from William Wilberforce, there were several other occupants who lived at no. 25 High Street, otherwise known as Wilberforce House .
Hugh Lister commissioned 25 High Street to be built by William Catlyn around 1660 for the Lister family. It is believed that the Lister family, who were also a merchant family, acquired the plot around 1590.
In 1709 John Thornton, a fellow merchant, obtained 25 High Street. Alderman Wilberforce (William’s grandfather) worked for John Thornton as an apprentice. In 1711 he married Thornton’s daughter, Sarah. After John died in 1729 the house passed to his son Godfrey; in 1732 Wilberforce bought 25 High Street and began making his fortune in trade.
