This weeks theme is "Tradition" and I was wrecking my brains trying to think of something traditional that was easy to get my hands on.. then after Mass this morning as I started cooking the Sunday breakfast/lunch.. I hit up on the idea of using that for my shot!
The traditional Irish breakfast includes, Sausage, Bacon, Black Pudding (blood pudding), White Pudding, Egg, Tomatoes and a more recent addition thanks to our American friends.. the Hash Brown. It's almost always accompanied by a very traditional Brown Soda bread and a nice steaming cup of tea..
It is rather delicious but it leaves you full for most of the day!

Brown Soda Bread

3 cups/14oz Wholemeal Flour
3 cups/14oz White flour
1 teaspoon Bread (Baking) soda
1 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Sugar
2? cups/1 pint Buttermilk or sour milk

Put the wholemeal flour into a large mixing bowl and add the sieved white flour, salt, sugar and bread soda. Mix well. Scoop out a well in the flour and pour in about ? of the milk. With your fingers draw the flour into the milk, mixing them with as light a touch as you can. The dough should come together easily into a soft ball, if it is too dry add a little more milk but avoid allowing the dough to become sticky.

Turn the dough onto a floured board and shape it into a flattened oval about 2 inches high. Cut a large cross into the surface. Place in the oven immediately. After 10 minutes reduce the heat to 400?F (200?C/Gas Mark 6). Bake for another 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and knock on the base of the loaf – if it sounds hollow it is done. If not return to the oven for about 5-10 minutes more.

a happy new year to all of my friends ..
candle arches are an old tradition in the erzgebirge /germany. miners used to build bigger versions of candle arches surrounding the gallery entrance of their mines.
especially in dark winter and christmas time they started their work before sunrise and finished their work after sunset, so the light of a candle arch was their substitute for the sun. within the years it became a tradition and very popular to put smaller versions inside the windows at winter and christmas time. the candle arch seen above is an upper lusatian adaption made by my father. it shows a family heading home to their typical upper lustitian house, the man standing next to the trees is robber karaseck our upper lusitian version of robin hood ,,,
