Now, since I don't have a lot of money, it is held in check by my pocketbook. I'd love to own a Rolex, a TAG Heur, a Movado and a Cartier. Plus a few others. I love my Diesel (DZ-7023) Watch! The watch is cool! It is unique! I get a ton of compliments when I wear it. I love it so much, that I purchased a replacement when I lost the first one I purchased. Recently, some of the watch band disintegrated. The clasp fell off and I wasn't able to wear the watch. I was pissed off because it extremely difficult to find a replacement band. Oh Well! I wasn't going to be denied. I thought about it for a while. Since part of the band remained intact, I decided that I would remove the bad parts and reattach the clasp using a needle and thread. I used red thread to give the watch a unique visual experience. Interestingly, by decreasing the back size, the watch face appears to be larger, which adds a cool new visual experience. I'm glad that I was able to fix my treasured watch with just a few items. I didn't hurt that I also saved a few bucks. Venture, now Home Depot, Bannister, 1 wm I remember the Venture store being here, and Marshall's and/or TJ Maxx beside it (which is still standing--See Marshall's photoset) but I'm pretty sure I recall Venture being torn down. (I lightened the exposure a bit, and am very proud of myself.) I'm sure Home Depot requires higher ceiling clearance, and didn't want so simply remodel a Venture store. PS.. You know how every (or many) Venture stores had a Payless Shoes imbedded right into the front of the Venture, yet with its own entry? I don't recall if this Venture had that, but it's interesting to note there is now a newer vintage free-standing Payless in the parking lot NOPD/Home Depot Tower I wonder what the NOPD watch tower is doing in at the Home Depot. And note the Home Depot logo on the base of the tower. Heritage Square Hale House Built between 1887 and 1888 for GW Morgan, the house was sold numerous times and moved twice before coming to the museum. Originally located at 4501 North Pasadena Ave (now Figueroa St), it was purchased by James and Bessie Hale in 1906 at it’s 2nd location, 4425 N. Pasadena Ave. James was a motor man for the railroad. The couple separated a few years after moving in-Bessie remained in the house and took in boarders and bought and sold real estate in the hot property market of the early 20th century in Los Angeles. Moved to the museum in 1970, the house underwent a large restoration effort. It is a classic example of a Queen Anne/Eastlake style house. Queen Anne details include fish scale shingles, corner turret, iron grillwork and dentil blocks. Charles Locke Eastlake was a renowned interior designer of the period. The Hale House’s extensive surface decorations, including chrysanthemums, fans, and geometric designs can be found in Eastlake’s book, Hints on Household Taste. Unfortunately for Eastlake, many of the designs that he abhorred were adopted by the homeowners and furniture makers alike who copied all of the designs in his book-the good and bad-and dubbed the ‘Eastlake’. The exterior colors – four shades of green, three red, with yellow and Victorian black trim – were reproduced from pain uncovered during restoration. Lincrusta, a wall covering made to look like leather, decorates the downstairs rooms and is original to the building, as are the light fixtures, fireplaces, and some of the furniture. The upstairs bathroom contains original bathroom fixtures, including nickel-plated bathtub, ceramic sink and a pull-chain toilet. Looked good from outside, but room was gross, electrical and plumbing was shabby and furniture was theadbare and nasty. Thumbs down, wayyyy down. One up note-- they're pet friendly. It's here! We had our first accumulation of snow in Southwestern Pennsylvania overnight and it's continuing today. It should disappear, though, as temperatures are expected to climb to close to 60 by the weekend.
