Refrigerator was an Appendix Quarter horse racehorse who won the Champions of Champions race three times. He was a 1988 bay gelding sired by Rare Jet and out of Native Parr. Rare Jet was a grandson of Easy Jet and also a double descendant of both Depth Charge (TB) and Three Bars (TB).

This statue of a seated larger than life William Cullen Bryant, sculpted by Herbert Adams and architected by Thomas Hastings of Carrere and Hastings, was dedicated on October 24, 1911. The 6' high, 3'6' wide figure stands on an intrgral plinth on a pedestal under a 30-foot archiform canopy, with a large urn and a balustrade at either side.

Bryant, an American romantic poet and journalist, whose most critically acclaimed work, "The Embargo" was published in 1817, moved to New York where He became a central force in the creation of the New York Athenaeum and its publication by the same name. The Athenaeum instigated the creation of New York University and was among its initial board of trustees.

Bryant was a lifelong political activist, initially as a proponent of the Free Soil Party, and later in life as a founder of the Republican Party. He was a fervent supporter of Abraham Lincoln's presidential bid in 1860. That same year, Bryant founded New York Medical College.

In 1884, the park where his statue sits, was rededicated in his honor.

A celebration, it took us a year to get the prints exhibited so it should really be 101.

Mark Sandham and I are exhibiting the Vandercook Centenary Print Bundle in the foyer of the William Cullen library at the Wits University here in Johannesburg, South Africa. The exhibition runs from 12 to 30 July 2010 and is well worth a visit if you have any interest in Vandercook presses, letterpress printing, typography or just curious hobbies.
