Otto Very Rare Slide Valve

Otto Very Rare Slide Valve

Engine uses a constant burning hydrogen flame for ignition. Slide valve opens, intake suction pulls in a part of the small hydrogen flame to a chamber ... hydrogen burns slow enough that the small ball of fire is still going when the compression stroke hits TBC and the flame chamber is ported to the cylinder for ignition. Amazingly smooth and quiet. Found in Canada ... may be the only one running.

Governor on Stuart-Turner No 9.

Governor on Stuart-Turner No 9.

The governor is linked to a butterfly valve in the steam inlet pipe. The balls spin outwards as speed increases. The linkage then closes down the steam to keep the engine speed (more-or-less) constant. The knob on the top can be screwed down to compress the spring, and thus vary the speed setting.

ALUMINUM BALL VALVES - ALUMINUM BALL

ALUMINUM BALL VALVES - BUTTERFLY VALVES TYPES.

Aluminum Ball Valves

aluminum ball valves

    ball valves
  • A one-way valve that is opened and closed by pressure on a ball that fits into a cup-shaped opening

  • (Ball valve) used to regulate the flow of water and to shut off skimmers, drains and other lines in order to vacuum or run a spa or water feature.

  • (ball valve) any valve that checks flow by the seating of a ball

  • (Ball valve) A ball valve is a valve with a spherical disc, the part of the valve which controls the flow through it. The sphere has a hole, or port, through the middle so that when the port is in line with both ends of the valve, flow will occur.

    aluminum
  • The chemical element of atomic number 13, a light silvery-gray metal

  • a silvery ductile metallic element found primarily in bauxite

  • Aluminum was the second album from NYC band Gods Child, littered with damaged guitars, distressed mellotron, and raw vocals. Produced by Tim Palmer (who has worked with such acts as Pearl Jam, Sponge, and Mission UK) the album features a spaced-out aura, solid musicianship and soaring sonics.

  • Aluminium or aluminum is a silvery white member of the boron group of chemical elements. It has the symbol Al and its atomic number is 13. It is not soluble in water under normal circumstances.

'Tangmere" on the 'Weymouth Seaside Express"

'Tangmere

Inspire by Judith's image I decided to drive up to Frome as the steam loco through Bridgwater had been cancelled.
The drive was awful, pouring down heavy around Glastonbury up and also back.
When I eventually found the bridge I was surprised by the size of the walls, either Judith is a giant or else she must have stood on a tall box !
Looking at the images I was also surprised how much the track tilted.
Loads of steam

I must admit I am not a fan of this style of loco, I had hoped to see the Castle class. These Bulleid designs just look like boxes on wheels, not like the superb locos in God's Wonderful Railway.

The SR West Country and Battle of Britain classes, collectively known as Light Pacifics or informally as Spam Cans, are classes of air-smoothed 4-6-2 Pacific steam locomotive designed for the Southern Railway by its Chief Mechanical Engineer Oliver Bulleid. Incorporating a number of new developments in British steam locomotive technology, both classes were amongst the first British designs to utilise welding in the construction process, and to use steel fireboxes, which meant that components could be more easily constructed during the wartime austerity and post-war economy.[2]

They were designed to be lighter in weight than their sister locomotives, the Merchant Navy class, to permit use on a wider variety of routes, including those in the South-west of England and the Kent coast. They were a mixed-traffic design, being equally adept at hauling passenger and freight trains, and were used on all types of services, frequently far below their capabilities. A total of 110 locomotives were constructed between 1945 and 1950, named after West Country resorts or Royal Air Force (RAF) and other subjects associated with the Battle of Britain.

Due to problems with some of the new features in Bulleid's design, such as the Bulleid chain-driven valve gear, sixty locomotives were rebuilt by British Railways during the late 1950s.[3] This produced a locomotive design highly similar to that of the rebuilt Merchant Navy class.[4] The classes operated until July 1967, when the last steam locomotives on the Southern Region were withdrawn from service. Although most were subsequently scrapped, twenty locomotives avoided this fate and instead found new homes on heritage railways in Britain.

  • A valve that closes to prevent backward flow of liquid

  • A check valve, clack valve, non-return valve or one-way valve is a mechanical device, a valve, which normally allows fluid (liquid or gas) to flow through it in only one direction.

  • Limits the flow of gas to one direction only. Use a check valve between the bubbler and generator to prevent unwanted pressure build up in the generator, and a safety against a low level bubbler. A check valve, such as used on torches, is recommended.

TS-909 - FLASHBACK ARRESTOR

TS-909 - FLASHBACK ARRESTOR

Flashback Arrestors are, as the name implies mounted straight on pipeline and regulators. This system has two functions:

They stop the flame in the event of back fire with help of the flame arrestor.

Also they prevent reverse flow with the help of a built in check valve.

The Flame arrestor consists of a flame barrier. Gas can flow through, but a flame is extinguished due to the cooling effect.

The Flashback Arrestor will effectively prevent a Flashback from entering the cylinders or supply system which could cause a serious accident.

Special Features and Benefits:
Built in check valve protects against reverse flow.
100% tested for reliability and performance.
Brass constructions for long life.
Unique Flame barrier quenches flame.
Color coded for easy identification.
Designed for fast and easy installation.
Available for Gases like: Oxygen, Hydrogen, Acetylene, Propane & BMCG.

Pressure optimizer for air brake system

(This system possesses a valve with a stop-cock. Brake creation involves mixture of two components - air and water. When pressure is increased, temperature also increases. So, the 2 components are converted into 3 components - AIR, WATER and STEAM each of which has a varying pressure. These creates an enormous pressure inside the brake cylinder. The excess pressure is released by this valve (balloon) provided with an automated stop-cock. This valve releases excess pressure voluntarily as and when required.)

Ducati Monster
(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Manufacturer Ducati Motor Holding SpA
Production Since 1993

Engine Multiple models based on the Ducati L-twin. Two valve air-cooled and four valve water cooled.
Transmission 6-speed
Wheelbase 1440 mm (56.7 in) (all)
Seat height 770 mm (30.3 in) to 800 mm (31.5 in) (depending on model)

Fuel capacity 14 l (3.1 imp gal; 3.7 US gal) to 14 l (3.1 imp gal; 3.7 US gal) (depending on model)

The Monster (informally called Il Mostro in Italian) is a motorcycle designed by Miguel Angel Galluzzi and produced by Ducati Motor Holding in Bologna, Italy since 1993. It is of the naked bike style, which is characterized by a sport bike with a fully exposed engine and frame. In 2005, Monster sales accounted for over half of Ducati's worldwide sales. Ducati motorcycles are best-known for their L-twin Desmodromic valve engines (also known as a 90° V-Twin) and tubular steel trellis chassis, both features designed by the late Fabio Taglioni (1920–2001).

Ducati introduced three Monster models in its first generation: M600, M750 and M900 (the numbers denote engine sizes). The first, the M900, was shipped in 1993; the M600 shipped in 1994, and finally the M750 arrived in 1996. In 1999, to close out existing stock of Monster parts, Ducati released several limited edition Monsters many with different levels of accessories, the most notable was the Monster City, that came in a unique blue color, leather briefcase style saddlebags and higher handlebars.

From 1994 a smaller displacement model, the M400 which produced 31 kW (42 hp) at 10500 rpm), was built for specific markets where the tax or license system is particularly harsh on larger capacity or more powerful motorcycles. The M400 was mainly intended for Italy, Japan and Singapore but was also exported to countries such as Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. The M400 was based on the M600 with the same basic engine components, but a shorter stroke crankshaft and smaller diameter pistons.

The bike remained relatively unchanged until 2000, when Ducati added fuel injection to the M900 model. Perhaps more importantly, in 2001 Ducati also introduced the S4, which added the liquid-cooled 4-valve Superbike engine to the stable. Other technical changes that year included semi-floating front disc brakes with Brembo four-piston calipers, lighter Brembo wheels as well as 43 mm Showa inverted forks. 2002 saw the introduction of the limited, 300 edition, high-spec, S4 Fogarty

In November 2005, a new top of the range model was announced: the S4RS Testastretta. This new model uses the engine from the 999 Superbike with Öhlins suspension front and rear and radial front brakes. Also in 2005, Ducati added the S2R Desmodue (two-valved Desmodromic engine) line to the Monster family: styled akin to the 4-valve S4R, but with the simpler 2-valve 800 cc and 1000 cc motors in the S2R 800 and S2R1000, respectively. February 2006 marked the announcement of the 2007 Monster 695. It replaced the Monster 620 and was introduced June 2006.

There are currently three models: the 696, 1100, and 1100S. The Monster 696 was announced in November 2007,[1] and officially launched early April 2008 in Barcelona. Its 696 L-twin features the highest power output per cc of any Ducati air-cooled engine. The Monster 1100 was announced in September 2008. Based on the Monster 696, it comes with a larger 1078 cc engine, a single sided swingarm, radial brake calipers, larger forks and taller suspension.[2] The 1100 "S" model features fully adjustable Öhlins suspension components,[3] a different colour scheme and aluminium brake disc carriers, which account for a 1 kg weight reduction.[2]

From the Archives, Winchester Trough with Drinking Fountain Attachment

Another from my trip to see the records, this is an interesting trough dedicated to the horses that died or were wounded in the colonial wars in South Africa, shockingly numbering six hundred thousand, and this seems a very reasonable estimate.

The young lad with his tin cup seems very pleased to be able to drink safely from this, at the time, innovation in the town.

Full text:
Winchester ?? June? 1905
Description: 1b (model type) Trough
Material: grey Granite
Erected by: Local Engineer
Site: Jewry St near Corn Exchange
No. 1684
District: City of Winchester
Water Company: do
Supplied: do
Remarks: Presented by
(deleted, can't recall what it said, though many troughs of this nature were donations from the local SPCA - Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals).

As I recall, this trough was the cause of some questions within the association as the inscription was seen as problematic - the benevolent Association membership did not wish to be associated with military actions etc; another request for a trough to be used by 'War Horses' in Finland was turned down. As a 'non-combat' memorial installation however, this one was eventually accepted.

Brough Superior Tourer

Brough Superior Tourer

George Brough made approximately 85 cars named Brough Superior. Built between 1935 and 1939, they were powered by Hudson engines and had Hudson chassis. Three models were made, but only two reached production. Early cars did not carry Brough Superior badges as Brough thought the cars sufficiently distinctive in themselves.
The first car was the 4 litre made from 1935 to 1936 using a 114 bhp (85 kW), 4168 cc side valve, straight-8 engine. Performance was remarkable for the time with a top speed of 90 mph (140 km/h) and a 0-60 mph (97 km/h) time of 10 seconds. The drop head coachwork was by Atcherley of Birmingham.
Hudson stopped supplying the 8-cylinder engine in 1936, and subsequent cars had a 107 bhp (80 kW), 3455 cc straight-6, still with side valves and called the 3.5 litre. A Centric supercharged version was also listed with a claimed output of 140 bhp (100 kW). The chassis was 4 inches (100 mm) shorter than the 4 litre at 116 inches. Saloon bodies were available but most were open cars. Approximately 80 were made between 1936 and 1939.

WATER TROUGH FLOAT VALVE - FLOAT VALVE

WATER TROUGH FLOAT VALVE - REXROTH PROPORTIONAL VALVE.

Water Trough Float Valve

water trough float valve

    water trough
  • A track pan (American terminology) or water trough (British terminology) is a device to enable a steam railway locomotive to replenish its water supply while in motion. It consist of a long trough filled with water, lying along a flat stretch of railroad/railway track between the rails.

  • (Water troughs) Longitudinal troughs of water laid between the rails of a train track, for the purpose of a locomotive picking up water without stopping.

  • Invented by John Ramsbottom and patented 12^thJuly 1860 to allow the Irish Mail to run non-stop between Chester and Holyhead. The first troughs were laid and demonstrated to the LNWR Directors at Mochdre on the Chester and Holyhead on 23^th October 1860.

    float valve
  • A ballcock (also balltap or float valve) is a mechanism, or machine for filling water tanks, such as those found in flush toilets, while avoiding overflow. The modern ballcock was invented by Joseph Bramah and Thomas Twyford.

  • A valve which automatically opens or closes as the level of a liquid changes. The valve is operated mechanically by a float which rests on the top of the liquid.

  • A mechanism that regulates fluid level by using a float to control the filling of water in the water tank; used in swamp coolers to regulate water levels.
