Living on New Chum Hill
This image, taken by either E.C Andrews or E.F Pittman for Andrews' 1901 report on the Kiandra Lead shows 4 clusters of weather board houses on New Chum Hill and one cottage and yards near Bullock's Head Creek. Christine Gant-Thompson describes the current archaeology of one of these sites on New Chum Hill -
‘This hut site is one of several structures visible in … [this] photo of New Chum Hill. Based on the surface artefacts, this structure was a weatherboard building with a basalt chimney mound, windows and possibly a shingle roof. It was most likely a domestic residence as it contains evidence of alcohol and medicinal bottles, metal food containers and an ointment/cosmetic pot. These artefacts indicate occupation post 1870; therefore residents were most likely associated with the Kiandra Gold Mining Company hydraulic sluicing operations or perhaps the Emperor Tunnel. According to report by the Department of Mines in 1883, when hydraulic sluicing commenced in May 1883, operations continued around the clock in three shifts. It is therefore possible that employees lived closer to the claim rather than in town.’
Chinese miners may also have camped on New Chum, Hill and here Christine Gant-Thompson describes the archaeological remains of 11 closely grouped huts that may have been of Chinese origin -
‘The remains are thought to represent a short-term Chinese occupation as some of the artefacts recovered from the site are of Chinese origin. An 1881 Department of Mines Annual Report records that “some Chinamen worked here [New Chum] ....for about six or seven weeks and won handsome returns”.

Clueless agriculturist
My daughter potted 4 different beans. When they grew like Jack's beanstalk, we started 'hardening' them by placing them outside. 3 withered away and only this one survived. We have no clue which one this is! She planted a dark red kidney bean, a lima bean, a pinto bean and some other bean that neither of us can remember.
It's still in a pot and wrapped around the trunk of a tree for support.
My neighbor grows corn, zucchini, green peppers, some flat beans that he picks only after they turn yellow. I pointed to what looked like colocasia leaves and asked him what he was growing and he said "white" and shrugged his shoulders. I asked him if I could take pictures of his zucchini flowers and he just walked away. Yikes! But wait...he doesn't know much English so I don't think he knew what I was asking him. Pity cos his vegetable garden flourishes every year. Mine? I just put some compost down and my okra and my daughter's bean plant are still in their pots! My holy basil withered away. If it'snot too late, I might try planting some amaranth seeds this weekend. Who knows - it might just grow. And, I almost forgot! Those 3 rhubarb roots I planted? It seems one survived and there is a single leaf with a red stem - all very teeny - poking its head through the soil.
Net results so far: 4 beans, which were just picked! And they are incredibly, incredibly sweet! And they are also all gone!
Assignment 3. Agriculture. The corn is high, and outside of harvest, now is the perfect time to get some images from the garden or the farm. it's such an important part of our lives, but something many of us are so removed from. Tag with cwd293.
If I can get out and about this weekend, I might change this to pictures of farmlands. Otherwise this is as close I am going to get to agriculture.
ilford bokeh
I tried out a few different types of film when I went out... everything from standard Kodak Gold and Fuji Superia, to Acros 100 and even TMax 3200, but my favorite by far was the Ilford HP5 Plus. It really has just the right amount of grain, looks great in lit situations and holds up admirably in pure darkness. I'm going to have to invest in more of this stuff.

What is Friendship...
A Friend…
As I get older…
I grow in wisdom.
I find that a friend…
Is different now than when I was younger.
A friend makes you laugh…
Gives advice but does not tell you what you should do.
A friend gives support…
In any way possible….
A friend does not judge you.
They accept you …
All of your faults…
They do not expect you to change.
That being said….
YOU came to me….
Called yourself friend…
The very minute I needed support
You turned your back on me.
Left …as a coward would
You gave no reason…
How can I understand…
Being turned on with no reason given?
I allowed you to take it out on me
When you had a bad day with the “EX”
I allowed you to make me feel bad…
Because I had something you didn’t…
You expected me to change..
To be what you wanted…
You turned on me without warning.
Two times…My fault that I allowed it…
That being said….
To one person
My question is
Where do you fit ….
Could you really call yourself friend?.
Loving Embrace/Caress
I have decided that this week I will showcase some of my Wisteria photo's, so I guess if you all get tired of them, than.......well, ya know.........see you next week for something different :-)
