The main lobby runs straight from Wilshire Boulevard to the porte-cochere at the rear of the building.

Bullocks Wilshire was first just going to be a new branch for the downtown Bullock's Department Store. It quickly transformed into the most high-end department store in Los Angeles and ultimately became its own high-end chain. Death came knocking in the late 1980s when department store shares turned into junk bonds. Bullocks Wilshire was ultimately acquired by Macy's (pre-Federated) and changed into I. Magnin (which also ultimately died). This store closed in 1993. It was acquired by the Southwestern Law School in 1994. In one of the greatest adaptive reuses in department store history it was transformed into classrooms, office space, and a library. All keeping the original details and ornament. Here's to Southwestern!!

The store was designed by John and Donald Parkinson (they designed most of the architecturally significant buildings in the city); it was completed in 1929. The tower tops out at 241 f eet.

The building is not truly open to architectural tourists but if you're nice enough they don't mind you going in to see the more public spaces. (And I got a coffee cup with an image of the department store!!).

Situated high on the western bank of the Fox River, this expansive building was designed as a cosmetic factory by architect Frank Chase and was completed in 1936. The sleek design and absence of decoration are characteristic elements of the Art Moderne style of architecture. The building's signature bands of glass block windows were used to insulate the building and bring natural light to the interior workspace. In 2003, Campana was designated the first – and still only – local landmark in the City of Batavia. A recent redevelopment plan proposes removal of the original glass block and alteration of the primary facade to insert storefronts on the first floor level.

It was one of the first factories to be entirely air conditioned, and was built without openable windows. The building is constructed with an all steel frame with glass blocks and bricks for the exterior walls. The tower in the middle of the building houses a 45,000 gallon water tank used for water circulation for air conditioning and fire sprinklers. The Campana company manufactured the popular product, Italian Balm, a hand lotion and a number of other feminine products. The cosmetics continued to be manufactured at the factory for a while, in recent years the building has been vacant.
