Since it was founded by Wally Parks in 1951, NHRA has been dedicated to safety while providing millions of racing fans with The Extreme MotorsportTM: the fastest and most spectacular form of entertainment on wheels.
With 80,000 members and more than 35,000 licensed competitors, NHRA is a thriving leader in the world of motorsports. Parks initially started NHRA as a means of getting hot rodders off the streets and on to legal dragstrips. 3 Dodge Pro Stock Avengers were competing at the inaugural NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway on the grounds of Charlotte Motor Speedway. Mike Alex, President of Suspension Technologies, worked with each of the teams’ Chief Mechanic to dial in the struts and shocks for the high-horsepower and low traction conditions at the raceway.
On Saturday, Allen Johnson qualified 6th, Vinnie Deceglie from Rancho Cucamonga CA qualified 10th and V. Gaines, Lakewood CO. missed the show by .008 of a second.
Jeg Coughlin Jr. picked the biggest race of the season to have his best outing of 2010, running a pair of personal-best passes to earn his the 16th low qualifier award of his career.
ABOUT DODGE AVENGERS
At 235 horsepower and 232 ft-lbs of torque, it provides a healthy amount of grunt and pulls hard on the open road. There’s a lot of torque below 4000 revs and the car’s gearing delivers a satisfying spread of power under normal driving conditions.
All Avengers boast a fully independent suspension with front MacPherson struts and four-link rear (pretty much standard fare in most small and mid-size cars these days), yet if you’re expecting the traditional cushy ride of most American rental sleds, you won’t find it here. Even on the base SXT models with 16-inch wheels, damping is fairly firm and on R/T models with bigger 17s it’s even more noticeable.
From a visual standpoint, there’s actually quite a lot to like about the current Dodge Avenger. The front is properly aggressive, aping big brother Charger. The same goes for the flanks. They’re a bit blocky, lending a somewhat slab sided profile, but the kick up around the rear doors and sloping roof line are nice touches and make the car stand out in this most of segments.

Most speeders had open sides and room for four or five workers, but models were available with enclosed bodies or space for up to a dozen passengers.
The most common use of motorcars was to transport a section gang (track workers responsible for a designated "section" of up to ten miles of track) to a work site. Unpowered trailer carts could be coupled behind to haul tools, rails, or other equipment. Speeders were built until the early 1990's, though most were replaced by "hi-rail" trucks (standard pickups with retractable railroad wheels) by the 1980's."

Kellogg Field, Battle Creek, Michigan
On August 28 were left for Kellogg Field, Battle Creek, Michigan, where we went into full training.
In the evenings I volunteered to push the high bombing practice rolling stands around the hangar floor directed by the bombardiers who were enclosed in the top of the stands.
The targets were painted on the floor, it was very interesting.
It was at this field where I got the chance to fly on practice missions, checking the guns out and training the radio gunners.
Most of the time I flew with Barry Townsend who was a great pilot.
Later when we went to Atterbury, Indiana, we had a practice bombing run with small paper bags of flour.
I was flying in the tail position.
We were to find an infantry unit from Fort Cluster that was bivouacked at an unknown location and bomb them.
We passed directly over their camouflaged position – however, we kept going further.
When we finally turned back we passed over them but this time the bombardiers dropped the flour bags.
We hit them!
Later when we landed I found out from the pilot that they had just picked a logical location for bivouac!
At this time, I first found out that I was colour blind.
I could see the camouflage.
The story of this flour sack mission was in the Post newspaper Stars and Stripes.
One morning while we were preparing an aircraft for bombing practice with flour sacks, an Assistant Crew Chief arrived in a Jeep.
He said he had to rev the right engine, therefore, we moved away from the aircraft and took a break close to another plane nearby.
We heard him rev up the engine to high RPM when all of a sudden the brake on the right wheel cut loose.
The plane did a complete turn around to its left and the right propeller ate up the Jeep and completely shredded our armourer’s tent dispersing pieces in every directions for many yards.
Fortunately no one was hurt, but we never saw the Assistant Crew Chief again.
In December we were told by Colonel Hall that we were going to England.
