Although Paul McCartney has stated that the words he wrote for the Beatles song were not inspired by the grave it's a strange coincidence that this grave and the one nearby bearing the name McKenzie ( as in Father McKenzie ) are both in the grounds of St . Peters , where Lennon and McCartney spent many of their teenage hours . In fact they met at a gig by John Lennon's band " The Quarrymen " at the St. Peter's fete in 1957 , McCartney later joining the group .
