Picked Flowers Today I picked the last 3 piones that were ready to be picked. They smell sooooo lovely! The scent I wish I could deliver you because inhaled it calms and brings me serenity. The wild flowers were also picked today. There are buttercups orange indian paintbrushes and the white one I don't know what they are but they may be some kind of prim rose (???) because the have thorns. They grow in the brambles down in the backyard. Anyone know what they are for sure? any guesses? Anyway, I picked them and placed them on the end of my very clutterd work desk so I could admire there beauty and revel in the serene scent whilst I work =) UNEXPECTED BOUQUET OF FLOWERS A very unexpected present today delivered by interflora, why?, just because I did somebody a good turn. I shot her walking the ramp .but than there was a massive flare up, Baby Hijra Guru who was running this event lost her cool with us we were just two photographers and Doordarshan that was covering the event. She accused us of shooting the hijras while they were changing which was a blatant lie as we could not go on the stage or backstage , at least I was down below dressed in saffron.. So we were shown the door I came back the following day to Park Site Vikhroli to shoot some more I was told the event was called off. I met Baby Hijra Guru by than she had found out about me the hijras have a powerful network..she offered me tea, and we had common friends Laxmi Narayan Tripathi her gharana had not attended the sammelan due to some issue..and Baby Hijra Guru chela of Ma Madhurima and I became friends for life. Whether it was late Raigni Nayaks chautha Ajmer Sharif or my trips to Baby she took care of me and was highly impressed when I took my American friend Dr Glenn Losack to Haji Malang and he shared meals with them but only ate what my wife had given him in the tiffin box. Simran I met at Ajmer again in 2008 I think and shot her at Moti Katla, while we were having chai, never met her again, Most of the hijras I shoot I hardly know them the one who is a dear friend is the Hijra breast feeding mother Nisha she calls me Firoze bhai. I dont take their contact numbers or ever try to get in touch with them perhaps Khushi from Mumbai is the only one I talk to once in a while. And I must confess as blogger poet shooting hijras I am more comfortable with the beggar hijras at traffic signals or the beggar hijras in trains.. they are my main subjects and spirit of poetic profundity. Dandelion Flowers Taraxacum officinale, the Common Dandelion (often simply called "dandelion"), is a herbaceous perennial plant of the family Asteraceae (Compositae). It can be found growing in temperate regions of the world, in lawns, on roadsides, on disturbed banks and shores of water ways, and other areas with moist soils. T. officinale is considered a weedy species, especially in lawns and along roadsides, but it is sometimes used as a medical herb and in food preparation. As a nearly cosmopolitan weed, Dandelion is best known for its yellow flower heads that turn into round balls of silver tufted fruits that blow away on the wind. Taraxacum officinale grows from generally unbranched taproots and produces one to more than ten stems that are typically 5 to 40 cm tall but sometimes up to 70 cm tall. The stems can be tinted purplish, they are upright or lax, and produce flower heads that are held as tall or taller than the foliage. The foliage is upright growing or horizontally orientated, with leaves having narrowly winged petioles or being unwinged. The stems can be glabrous or are sparsely covered with short hairs. The 5–45 cm long and 1–10 cm wide leaves are oblanceolate, oblong, or obovate in shape with the bases gradually narrowing to the petiole. The leaf margins are typically shallowly lobed to deeply lobed and often lacerate or toothed with sharp or dull teeth. The calyculi (the cup like bracts that hold the florets) is composed of 12 to 18 segments: each segment is reflexed and sometimes glaucous. The lanceolate shaped bractlets are in 2 series with the apices acuminate in shape. The 14 to 25 mm wide involucres are green to dark green or brownish green with the tips dark gray or purplish. The florets number 40 to over 100 per head, having corollas that are yellow or orange-yellow in color. The fruits, which are called cypselae, range in color from olive-green or olive-brown to straw-colored to grayish, they are oblanceoloid in shape and 2 to 3 mm long with slender beaks. The fruits have 4 to 12 ribs that have sharp edges. The silky pappi, which form the parachutes, are white to silver-white in color and around 6 mm wide. Plants typically have 24 or 40 pairs of chromosomes but some plants have 16 or 32 chromosomes. Plants have milky sap and the leaves are all basal, each flowering stem lacks bracts and has one single flower head. The yellow flower heads lack receptacle bracts and all the flowers, which are called florets, are ligulate and bisexual. The fruits are mostly produced by apomixis. Il tarassaco cresce spontaneamente nelle zone di pianura fino ad una altitudine di 2000 m e in alcuni casi con carattere infestante. E una pianta tipica del clima temperato e, anche se per crescere non ha bisogno di terreni e di esposizioni particolari, predilige maggiormente un suolo sciolto e gli spazi aperti, soleggiati o a mezzombra. I thought they were really cute, and was thinking maybe I could sell them [on Etsy]. My question to you guys is.... 1. Would you buy these? 2. How much would you be willing to pay for them? [I was thinking around $6 for the set, plus whatever shipping costs would be] A few things to know about them: * Any size needles can be used. * The cupcake is securely on the end of the needle, so you don't have to worry about it falling off when knitting. * The cupcake is made from Crayola Model Magic Modeling Material--it is non-toxic, and very light-weight [so it won't make the needles heavy on the ends, you can barely feel they are there]. * It is hand-modeled by me. * Also, any color-combos can be made, and you can also request different "toppers" for the cupcake [i.e., a cherry, different flower, etc.--I will be trying out more designs tonight. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Flower District I walk from Penn Station to my desk on east 25th street every day, right through the flower district. Veeka And James With Balloon There were some different customs and rituals for the wedding (different for us Americans that is). This was one of them. We couldn't just walk in to meet the bride, all the women blocked the doorway (the one with the red ribbons across it) and my brother had to pass some tests to get to her. In this one several of the women had kissed the balloon and James had to pick which of the lipstick marks was Aliona's. The bride's sister, Veeka, was presenting the balloon for his inspection. Vincent van Gogh Dutch, Saint-Remy, France, 1889 Oil on canvas 28 x 36 5/8 in. 90.PA.20 In May 1889, after episodes of self-mutilation and hospitalization, Vincent van Gogh chose to enter an asylum in Saint-Remy, France. There, in the last year before his death, he created almost 130 paintings. Within the first week, he began Irises, working from nature in the asylum's garden. The cropped composition, divided into broad areas of vivid color with monumental irises overflowing its borders, was probably influenced by the decorative patterning of Japanese woodblock prints. There are no known drawings for this painting; Van Gogh himself considered it a study. His brother Theo quickly recognized its quality and submitted it to the Salon des Independants in September 1889, writing Vincent of the exhibition: "[It] strikes the eye from afar. It is a beautiful study full of air and life." Each one of Van Gogh's irises is unique. He carefully studied their movements and shapes to create a variety of curved silhouettes bounded by wavy, twisting, and curling lines.
