We got back just before midnight on Friday night, which gave me only a weekend and a day before I had to return to work. The time went by way too quickly, mostly consumed with sitting around and running errands until my birthday dinner and then a hike.
For the birthday dinner, I spent some time looking for a suitable restaurant in the South Bay, which would be both relatively cheap and offer vegetarian entrees; I ended up settling on La Pastaia at the Hotel De Anza. I enjoyed the food, but was surprised to see that there was virtually no one else in the restaurant during our entire meal. Given their location downtown I suppose it is not all that surprising; perhaps they're more of a lunch place?
For the whole week beforehand, Benson and I were on our own on the road trip, so it was a bit odd being in a big group again, but in a nice way. I initially wasn't sure if I was going to plan anything, but a call from Sooyoun convinced me to do it. Looking back I'm glad I did.
De Anza Theatre
The De Anza Theatre in Riverside CA. opened in 1939 and was designed by famed art deco theatre architect S. Charles Lee, it no longer operates as a movie theater and like many others the theatre space has been turned into retail stores........... the neon marquee below is gone but it still has the amazing art deco sign on top of the building and that's a great thing to see
