Mobile computers for 200 to 400 Euros
It happens relatively often that the electronics industry really throws a new class of devices on the market. Something like that fertilizes the market when it meets a demand - like years ago, the MP3 player. Now, the industry hopes, this could be achieved once more - with the "netbooks", such as ultra mobile PCs, following the model of the EeePC from Asus called the meantime.
Their concept is a voluntary waiver. They are very small, relatively little Pavilion dv6000 Battery power and provide storage space and an often very reduced graphic resolution. But they are very light, so truly portable, cheap and well connected with prices starting from 200 € all. Because until now mobile computers such as laptops and notebooks were expensive enough to not only practical but also his prestige. Desktop PCs cost only a fraction of what you have to lie down for a technically comparable mobile computers.
Therefore exists in the IT industry is currently optimism. Occasion "With this device," Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci rejoiced electronics at Computex in Taipei, "can easily double the market size for easy notebook." And of course, meant not many netbooks competition, but Acer's implementation of the concept, the "Aspire One".
More and more companies jump on to the computer through the Enwicklungshilfe Child OLPC and the Asus EeePC have triggered. After numerous small companies that presented appropriate models quickly, then follow the first Great. Already in the second half of 2008, apparently all want to be on board - including the industry heavyweights. Microsoft announced at Computex that it had licensed its stripped-down Windows XP for netbooks to date around 20 companies. Including Acer, ASUSTek, BenQ, Dell, Gigabyte Technology, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo and Medion. Sounds to them as role since a wave of potential small-cute Christmas gifts to us.
Estimates of the roll as the market will go far apart. Lanci hopes that are sold worldwide in 2009 to 40-45 million units, Intel is committed to 50 million devices equipped with its chips by 2011. However, Intel will introduce the segment of netbooks, probably not as much control as with a conventional PC: AMD and VIA also equip Latitude D620 Battery with their chips.
The market researchers also feel very different strengths tailwind for the Netbook. While JP Morgan expects ten to 15 million sales this year, IDC only 3.5 million.
Initial invoice for the poor - or third computer on the go?
It will arrive precisely on who really buys netbooks - and why.
For the theory that the stripped-enabled computer with their comparatively low prices for many people until the purchase is on shaky ground. While there are mini-netbooks such as the one in Germany as displaced EeePC clone A110 (199 €) with only two GB of space. But the trend is to go back to a kind of waiver on the waiver - with a minimum configuration, which includes but then again 20 to 80 GB disk space, Windows, a GB of RAM and a slightly larger screen from nine to ten inches. But such devices have are only from about 350 euros - and that's a real sound barrier.
For € 350 currently is the starting price for ordinary laptops. Also likely to be in direct connection with the netbooks. Since last summer, the prices are in free fall. The times of stable value over the years laptops are definitely over.
Because now even large manufacturers in the trend toward low-cost laptops have jumped. If the price segment up to last year, dominated by commercial brands, there are now many major equipment manufacturers, including Hewlett-Packard, Fujitsu-Siemens and Acer (see picture).
And it's not about the sale of superannuated remnants. While testing the configurations of these price-value models, the limits of the technically feasible currently not straight, but old-seller they are not. They are solid and fairly quick work with laptops at best weak in the graphics area: no material for the LAN party, but always ready for daily work, the Internet and for use as a mobile media player.
The strongest models now have Intel's dual-core processors (2 x 1.86 GHz) and combine with 2 GB Ram, 160 GB hard drive and 256 MB graphics internal - at a bargain price of 399 €.
Thus the argument, made only affordable netbooks, Inspiron 1501 Battery, is led ad absurdum.
