Permanent Vacancy - Alba Court Inn
As promised, here's the facade of the old Alba Court Inn. Definitely one of the strangest looking buildings I've been around. This reminds me so much of old Colon, Panama.
I don't think I got any closer than I did in this shot, because I wasn't quite sure if there were still 'residents' (or better yet, denizens!) still residing in the building. Seems like it to me, though I can't imagine that they would be terribly friendly.
You can see the weirdness of this building's architecture here. The 40s-ish first and second floor and what looks to be an Edwardian or untouched 1910s third floor with cedar shigles and THEN there's the super-sixties Cape Canaveral-Daytona Beach in the 60s style rail along the second floor. AND the tufted, uphosltered check-in desk see-able through the first floor windows.
So, this place is strange, and if I ever get back up to New Smyrna and this place is still there, I might take a closer look.
