Gasoline Pump at the former Darwin Post Office
This is a Vizo, visible, 10 gallon, hand-operated gasoline pump. While generally regarded as being from 1926 The Spokesmans Review (of Spokane, Washington) ran an ad for it in their September 14, 1924 edition. So it's likely that there were several incarnations of The Vizo during the years when it was available. The manufacturer claimed "The Vizo is built to last a lifetime." Or longer.
Built by The Boyle-Dayton Co., Los Angeles, California (established around 1910). They also manufactured out of San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and San Diego. The white rectangle, below the glass cylinder, has a loop on the right side. This is where the dispensing nozzle was parked when it was not in use. Boyle-Dayton was sold to The Wayne Pump Co. in 1928.
It is said that this is the City of Darwin's only stop sign.

little sister ADAM syringe
BioShock is a first-person shooter video game set in the dystopian underwater city of "Rapture." It's an exceptionally creepy universe, despite the awe inspiring Art Deco and Steampunk visuals. The syringe is used by "little sisters" who harvest a highly valuable serum of "ADAM," stem cells which have the capacity to regenerate damaged tissue. It's complicated in a way only teenagers can understand.
But a game is just a game. The fun thing for us was the experience of creating the stage prop. A little later I'm going to post some of the production photos. In short, the central element is a resin casting of a old gas pump dispenser (the lever is actually from the brass original); extensions are PVC pipe; the "needle" is a wooden dowel, sanded to shape; the top extension holds an red LED light from an emergency light; the bottle is from Italian sea salt, purchased at Whole Foods, filled with Karo syrup and red food coloring. The top is from a baby bottle. It's all held together with various epoxies and JB Weld.
Ouch.
Enema pump (top) and syringe (bottom). Constipation as a side effect from opiate use was a constant problem, thus the enema was popular :) The opiates were probably injected via the syringe.

Breast milk production
Nearly all nursing mothers worry at one time or another about whether their babies are getting enough breast milk. The first thing to determine is whether your supply is really low or not. If you are unable to produce enough milk or your baby is not getting enough for his or her age, there are a few things you can do to increase breast milk production.
Here are a few things that worked for me, not that I ever had a problem with my breast milk production, I just wanted to make more than I needed so I could save it and freeze it for a later date. The following are just a few ways to increase breast milk production:
1. Pump or breastfeed more frequently. If you are exclusively breastfeeding your baby, you should try using a breast pump and pump for five to ten minutes after each nursing session;
2. You can also try adding a pumping session or two to your routine during the day to boost your supply, such as first thing in the morning or while your baby sleeps or naps. I use a hospital-grade pump and I have been told they work the best, especially if you are exclusively pumping;
3. Drink plenty of fluids and keep track of how much water you're drinking during the day;
4. Try drinking a glass of water every time your baby nurses to ensure that you're drinking enough;
5. Rest and relax, as it can be difficult to get much rest with a newborn. Make an effort to take care of yourself and rest when you can and try to get as much sleep as you can;
6. Eat oatmeal, as I have been adding oatmeal to my diet and it has increase my milk supply. Steel-cut oatmeal is the most effective (available at most health stores). Have a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast or snack on oatmeal-granola during the day;
7. Mother's milk tea & Fenugreek will increasing your breast milk supply. I tried Motherlove fenugreek organic herbal remedy and did it ever work! It worked too good, so I stopped. You need to take this 3 times a day and for about 5 days before you will notice any increase milk flow. Make sure you consult with your doctor before taking any herbal remedies. I was a bad girl and did not, but I stopped caused I never needed the stuff to begin with.
When I use my breast pump, I can produce just over 11oz or 325ml of milk in a 4 hour period from each breast, which is a total of 22oz or 650ml of breast milk in one session.
Well that's all for now. If you have any breastfeeding questions or any new mother (Baby) questions, feel free to contact me. As for my perverted guy fans, this video and the information contained within this post was intended for new moms.

Aubrey Beardsley Print
Title: Aubrey Beardsley
Keywords: Art Noveau, English, XIX
Description: Aubrey Vincent Beardsley (21 August 1872 – 16 March 1898) was an English illustrator and author. His drawings are characterized by an erotic nature, and his most erotic illustrations are those found in the Lysistrata; Beardsley drew these for a privately printed edition.
Beardsley later converted to Catholicism, and would subsequently beg his publisher to “destroy all copies of Lysistrata and bad drawings...by all that is holy all obscene drawings." His publisher, Leonard Smithers, ignored Beardsley’s wishes, and actually continued to sell reproductions as well as forgeries of Beardsley's work.
Beardsley was active till his death in Menton, France, at the age of 25 on 16 March 1898 of tuberculosis. He had been received into the Roman Catholic church in March of the previous year.
Beardsley was born in Brighton on 21 August 1872. His father, Vincent Paul Beardsley (1839–1909), was the son of a tradesman; Vincent had no trade himself, however, and instead relied on a private income from an inheritance that he received from his maternal grandfather when he was twenty-one. Vincent's wife, Ellen Agnus Pitt (1846–1932), was the daughter of Surgeon-Major William Pitt of the Indian Army. The Pitts were a well-established and respected family in Brighton, and it is widely accepted that Beardsley's mother married beneath her station. Shortly after their wedding, Vincent was obliged to sell some of his property in order to settle a claim for "breach of promise" from another woman who claimed that he had undertaken to marry her. At the time of his birth, Beardsley's family, which included his sister Mabel who was one year older, were living in Ellen's familial home at 12 Buckingham Road.
In 1883 his family settled in London, and in the following year he appeared in public as an "infant musical phenomenon," playing at several concerts with his sister. He attended Brighton, Hove and Sussex Grammar School in 1884, before moving on to attend Bristol Grammar School, where in 1885 he wrote a play, which he performed together with other students. At about the same time his first drawings and cartoons were published in the school newspaper of the Bristol Grammar School Past and Present. In 1888 he obtained a post in an architect's office, and afterwards one in the Guardian Life and Fire Insurance Company. In 1891, under the advice of Sir Edward Burne-Jones and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, he took up art as a profession. In 1892 he attended the classes at the Westminster School of Art, then under Professor Fred Brown.
His six years of major creative output can be divided into several periods, identified by the form of his signature. In the early period his work is mostly unsigned. During 1891 and 1892 he progressed to using his initials - A.V.B. In mid-1892, the period of Morte D'Arthur and The Bon Mots he used a Japanese-influenced mark which became progressively more graceful, sometimes accompanied by A.B. in block capitals. He was aligned with the Yellow Book coterie of artists and writers. He was an art editor for the first four editions and produced many illustrations for the magazine. He was also closely aligned with Aestheticism, the British counterpart of Decadence and Symbolism. Most of his images are done in ink, and feature large dark areas contrasted with large blank ones, and areas of fine detail contrasted with areas with none at all.
Beardsley was the most controversial artist of the Art Nouveau era, renowned for his dark and perverse images and the grotesque erotica, which were the main themes of his later work. Some of his drawings, inspired by Japanese shunga, featured enormous genitalia. His most famous erotic illustrations were on themes of history and mythology, including his illustrations for Aristophanes' Lysistrata and Wilde's Salomé.
He illustrated Oscar Wilde's play Salomé - the play eventually premiered in Paris in 1896. He also produced extensive illustrations for books and magazines (e.g. for a deluxe edition of Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur) and worked for magazines like The Savoy and The Studio. Beardsley also wrote Under the Hill, an unfinished erotic tale based loosely on the legend of Tannhäuser. Beardsley was also a caricaturist and did some political cartoons, mirroring Wilde's irreverent wit in art. Beardsley's work reflected the decadence of his era and his influence was enormous, clearly visible in the work of the French Symbolists, the Poster art Movement of the 1890s and the work of many later-period Art Nouveau artists like Pape and Clarke.
Beardsley was a public character as well as a private eccentric. He said, "I have one aim—the grotesque. If I am not grotesque I am nothing." Wilde said he had "a face like a silver hatchet, and grass green hair." Beardsley was meticulous about his attire: dove-grey suits, hats, ties; yellow gloves. He would appear at h

5am + Boredom + Country Song =
This song is great but it sort of makes me sad just because I miss how everyone use to be (Before everyone grew up.) Even though some of them are still around..Work and kids has taken there toll on them and they arent fun anymore or I never get to see them. I miss being a kid. (I don't work or have kids so I still feel the same. Everyone else got REAL old lol) I really miss High school. I miss my old neighborhood. I miss my old friends. And this song just makes you realize time goes fast and even though you think life isn't so great, One day your gonna look back and realize it was awesome....Because life is still pretty damn sweet.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trace Adkins - Your gonna miss this.
She was staring out the window of their SUV
Complaning, saying "I can't wait to turn 18"
She said "I'll make my own money, and I'll make my own rules"
Mamma put the car in park out there in front of the school
Then she kissed her head and said "I was just like you"
You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this
Before she knows it she's a brand new bride
In a one-bedroom apartment, and her daddy stops by
He tells her "It's a nice place"
She says "It'll do for now"
Starts talking about babies and buying a house
Daddy shakes his head and says "Baby, just slow down"
Cause you're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this
Five years later there's a plumber workin' on the water heater
Dog's barkin', phone's ringin'
One kid's cryin', one kid's screamin'
And she keeps apologizin'
He says "They don't bother me.
I've got 2 babies of my own.
One's 36, one's 23.
Huh, it's hard to believe, but...
You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this"
Song Sparrow
I was able to sneak up behind this song sparrow singing away on a snag early morning around the pond. There was a small opening where I could focus on him, but it was windy and the reeds kept blowing and blocking him. I had to hope he would sing just as the wind died down. His pretty song attracted a female and he followed off behind her.

FUEL INJECTION PUMP CALIBRATION - PUMP CALIBRATION
Fuel injection pump calibration - How do hydraulic pumps work - Chemical pump sales & service
Fuel Injection Pump Calibration
- Fuel injection is a system for mixing fuel with air in an internal combustion engine. It has become the primary fuel delivery system used in automotive petrol engines, having almost completely replaced carburetors in the late 1980s.
- The direct introduction of fuel under pressure into the combustion units of an internal combustion engine
- (Fuel Injected) A mechanical device that 'injects' or introduces fuel into a engine
- mechanical system to inject atomized fuel directly into the cylinders of an internal-combustion engine; avoids the need for a carburetor
- Each of a set of graduations on an instrument
- the act of checking or adjusting (by comparison with a standard) the accuracy of a measuring instrument; "the thermometer needed calibration"
- (calibrate) make fine adjustments or divide into marked intervals for optimal measuring; "calibrate an instrument"; "graduate a cylinder"
- The action or process of calibrating an instrument or experimental readings
- (calibrate) mark (the scale of a measuring instrument) so that it can be read in the desired units; "he calibrated the thermometer for the Celsius scale"
- A mechanical device using suction or pressure to raise or move liquids, compress gases, or force air into inflatable objects such as tires
- An instance of moving something or being moved by or as if by such a machine
- a mechanical device that moves fluid or gas by pressure or suction
- operate like a pump; move up and down, like a handle or a pedal; "pump the gas pedal"
- deliver forth; "pump bullets into the dummy"
- An active transport mechanism in living cells by which specific ions are moved through the cell membrane against a concentration gradient
1957 Chevrolet Bel Air fuel injection badge
A rare and coveted emblem on fifties and sixties Chevys. Rochester mechanical fuel injection was a pricey option on '57 Chevrolets (including the Corvette). Two fuel-injected engines were offered, both 283 cu. in. (4.6L): 250 hp with relatively mild cam and hydraulic lifters, 283 hp with solid lifters.

Something Blue
Tjörnin Lake (The Pond).
Reykjavik, Iceland.
___________
Reykjavik is a wonderful place, and in my opinion Tjörnin Lake is by far one of the nicest parts of the city. At night the still waters reflect the city lights beautifully.
___________
Tjörnin is a small lake in central Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. Although it is not among the biggest lakes in the country, it is one of the best known.
Most visitors to Reykjavík pass along its shore, as it is situated in the city centre next to the Reykjavik City Hall and several museums. The University of Iceland is also close by.
Tjörnin has long been a favorite spot for bringing young children to see and feed the ducks, seagulls, swans and geese that reside there.
During the winter, the lake usually freezes over but hot geothermal waters are pumped in to defrost an area for water birds.
___________
Out of Order
This is the first geothermal area you run into from the north entrance of the park. It's an old geyser that has been inactive for some time now. The 'Mammoth Hot Springs' are actually one of the smaller geothermal activities. It's crazy how your excitement goes up and up as you continue along the park road. I like how it looks like it's pumping out clouds.

- the act of working out the form of something (as by making a sketch or outline or plan); "he contributed to the design of a new instrument"
- An arrangement of lines or shapes created to form a pattern or decoration
- plan: make or work out a plan for; devise; "They contrived to murder their boss"; "design a new sales strategy"; "plan an attack"
- This as supplied to houses or commercial establishments through pipes and taps
- body of water: the part of the earth's surface covered with water (such as a river or lake or ocean); "they invaded our territorial waters"; "they were sitting by the water's edge"
- A colorless, transparent, odorless, tasteless liquid that forms the seas, lakes, rivers, and rain and is the basis of the fluids of living organisms
- One of the four elements in ancient and medieval philosophy and in astrology (considered essential to the nature of the signs Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces)
- binary compound that occurs at room temperature as a clear colorless odorless tasteless liquid; freezes into ice below 0 degrees centigrade and boils above 100 degrees centigrade; widely used as a solvent

And in my heart...
Prominent in our local news these days is the case of a man dubbed the Balcony Rapist. He was put away 20 years ago after a string of sex crimes so horrendous he was banned outright from ever living in the province of Ontario. Now he's out of prison, having served his full term... and having staunchly refused any treatment (setting aside for now the debate over whether such proclivities can, in fact, be treated).
So now he's living in Surrey BC and folks are absolutely outraged. And... while I have a certain amount of compassion for their predicament... I'm getting kind of tired of their whining. Yesterday's newscasts featured tape of various parents freaaaakkkkking out because the man was seen walking in an area near a school.
Last night, we had "live, on the scene reports" from a demonstration outside the home of the man's sister, with whom he lives. The newscasters tried to pump it up, as usual, but there were only two or three people milling around. It was actually kind of sad.
We've also been treated to tape of middle aged women crying hysterically, demanding the death penalty for sex offenders. And the mayor of Surrey high-horsing it about how such things as this man who's served his time must not be permitted in her community.
Personally, I wish these people would get a grip. With all the non-stop media coverage, the Balcony Rapist is probably the most recognizable man in the area these days. And known dangers (I'm sorry to have to say it) are among the easiest to avoid.
This guy did his damage at a time when no one knew who he was. He sneaked up into women's apartments via their balconies during the night. What are the odds that a guy with this history is gonna jump someone on the street? Or snatch a child? (He has always preyed on adult women, but I guess little children are much more attractive things to hold up as objects of danger when the media want to whip up even more of this kind of hysteria.)
I say... if you're gonna be afraid... fear the things you don't yet know are dangerous.
Where known dangers lurk, take precautions.
Lock your doors at night. Close your windows. Walk the other way when you see an infamous sex offender in the mall or on the street or whatever.
But don't go making up imaginary crimes ("Adult women will be too hard for him to get, so he's going to turn to children," a woman said on the news last night) and don't keep demanding that the guy be sent somewhere else. His massive public visibility is probably the greatest protection his neighbours could ask for.
As for those cries for the death penalty... let them ring out. Let them be debated. Let them be considered as part of public policy. And if it's the will of the people to kill sex offenders... well, so be it.
For now, though, we have no such penalty. And yes, what this man has done is terrible and vile. And yes, he may reoffend. So let's keep an eye on him and act sensibly. But let's not... in the grips of mass hysteria... forget that there are many other, very real dangers in everyday life. And no one's safety can ever be completely guaranteed. And I'm willing to bet that the next heinous crime committed in Surrey is committed... not by this man, but by someone we've never even heard of. Because, in my experience, that's how life works. When you're busy scanning the horizon for tornadoes, you don't see the flood waters rising to your neck.
Water Clock
The Water Clock is an icon in the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. Designed by French physicist and artist Bernard Gitton, the water clock was procured by the museum in 1989 with a contribution from Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wood. Since then, the clock has attracted crowds of visitors who marvel at its beauty and accuracy, and learn to tell time in a whole new way.
Gitton worked for almost five years to perfect the design of his first water clock. Thousands of mathematical calculations were made to determine the size of each minute disc and hour sphere and length of each pipe. However, designing the clock was not as difficult as constructing it to precise specifications. Gitton designed and supervised the creation of each hand-blown glass part, assembled the clock for testing and disassembled it for shipping to Indianapolis. Gitton and two assistants came here to assemble the clock and to train Mark Coovert in its care.
The clock, which is 26.5 feet tall, uses 70 gallons of a solution of water, methyl alcohol and food coloring. The alcohol prevents algae and fungus from growing inside the pipes while the food coloring allows visitors to see the clock’s function more clearly.
The water clock works on three basic principles of physics: energy cannot be destroyed only changed; gravity pulls objects down to the lowest possible level; and water seeks its own level.
Initially, an electric water pump beneath the floor moves the water to the top reservoir. From there it flows into a glass cupel (a shallow cup or scoop) attached to a green neon pendulum. As the cupel fills, the increasing weight causes its arm to dip (gravity) and empty the liquid.
The cupel then returns to an upright position, thus propelling the pendulum. This occurs every two seconds, keeping a steady stream of liquid flowing into the clock’s systems of curved pipes and siphons. Every hour, the minutes column empties, creating a vacuum that draws liquid into the hours column to fill one of the hour spheres.
Together the number of filled spheres lining the hours side of the clock and the number of filled discs on the minutes side tell visitors the time of day. Each disc represents two minutes.
There are only 29 of these minute discs, representing 58 minutes. The missing two minutes are accounted for in the time it takes for the pipes to drain. Just before one o’clock, the minutes and the hours sections are full. When they overflow they create a siphon that empties the entire clock and creates a dramatic event for visitors. Then the whole process begins again.
This picture was taken at 1:40pm.

69.365
So today (Thursday) was a busy day. I’m going to start by saying that we’ve been potty training Kaden for about 5 days straight now. He did really good last summer but then didn’t show any interest in it again until recently. He is doing AMAZING! He always wants to wear underwear now, but I insist when we go shopping or play outside that he wear a diaper (just incase).
Joe went and got an eye exam (Kaden can spot coyotes in the backyard before Joe can-his eyes are SO bad!). He got a and we went shopping for glasses, and went out for lunch. The entire time we were gone Kaden was wearing a diaper, but when we got home the first thing he wanted to do was go on the potty. So I took off his dry-as-a-bone diaper and he went pee on the potty (Yay!!) Later that day we played outside, and the same thing happened. He doesn’t want to pee in his diaper anymore, he wants to be a big boy :)
Ok, now getting to the photo. I went to work last night, and on the way home I stopped at the spot Joe’s sister Kelly had her wedding photo’s done. My friend April had taken some nights shots downtown and inspired me to do the same. I have a few more I will post, but I liked this one best for my 365.
One last thing, when I got home from work Joe and I noticed that the sump pump has been running a little more then normal lately. We went in the creepy crawl space (basement) and saw that our hot water tank has a leak at the bottom because it’s so rusted from our disgusting hard water. Now I’m just waiting for my landlord to send his maintenance guy over to replace the tank. As much as I love this place (cozy 3 bdrm farmhouse on 140 acres), I can’t wait to have my own house with NORMAL water!! Ruins my hair, ruins my clothes, I can’t cook with it, or drink it.. Time to start saving money for a house!
Sump Pump Housing
The black thing on the floor is where the sump pump is. It's set into the floor and covered with a lid, which they can open if it ever requires maintenance. The maintenance contract is $75 per year, which includes fixing the pump if it ever breaks, as well as two inspections per year.
The gunk on the wall is adhesive foam where there was wooden shelving prior to this work being done. That gunk will probably have to be scrubbed off or something.
