Royal Air Force Mountain Rescue Service (RAF Valley) on top of Holyhead Mountain on the Isle of Anglesey on the 18th May 2010 holding a Armed Forces Day flag. OC MRS Sqn Ldr Marshall Kinnear answered a few questions regarding Armed Forces Day:
Q1: Why are you supporting AFD?
It is important to recognise the commitment and ultimate sacrifice our personnel make to maintain the safety and security of our country.
Q2: What does it mean to you that the public are supporting AFD?
MRS personnel provide a service to the public and without their support it is difficult to maintain the enthusiasm and commitment required to deliver that key service.
Q3: What is your role in the military and what was your highlight?
I am an Operations Support (Flight Operations) Officer in a command appointment responsible to the SARFC for the provision of a land based all weather search and rescue capability held at high readiness 24/7/365; an excellent job but the highlight of my career was a 6 month detachment to Iraq following which I received a Chief of Joint Operations Commendation for distinguished service in support of Operation TELIC whilst serving as the Brigade Air Liaison Officer for 1 Mechanized Brigade.
Q4: How do your friends and family feel about you having served?
MRS is voluntary and demands a significant commitment from all personnel; the majority of families are very supportive of the demands placed on our personnel.
Q5: What will you be doing on Saturday 26th June to celebrate the day?
Royal Air Force Mountain Rescue Teams throughout the UK will be involved in events organised by their Parent Stations to celebrate Armed Forces Day.

1936 Irving service station, Village Historique Acadien, Caraquet, New Brunswick, Canada
The service station at the Acadian Historic Village is typical of those seen in 1936, including its pumps, equipment and merchandise. This building was originally located in Sackville, New Brunswick. Irving Oil Limited disassembled it, transported it to the historic village, and erected it, as a gift to the village and to the people of New Brunswick.
We visited the village while on tour with the N.B. Antique Auto Club. Those of us with vehicles built in 1951 or earlier were invited to display them within the newer section of the village. Our 1947 Studebaker is seen at the pumps with the friendly attendant in his period uniform.
