Proper Twittiquette has come into debate again after several members of Congress updated their Twitter statuses during President Obama’s speech on Tuesday night. Granted, old white men who spend 20 hours a day in a suit don’t exactly set the norms amongst the microblogging service’s community, but their behavior has reignited chatter over when is the appropriate time to tweet. And further, should Congress members make updates about topics not related to Obama’s speech, like Republican Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, who tweeted: “The Aggie basketball game is about to start on ESPN 2, for those of you that aren’t going to bother watching Pelosi smirk for the next hour.” Barton blamed a staffer for the tweet and deleted the comment, but not before causing a bit of an uproar. So, should politicians adhere to a different Twittiquette?
