By the Yellow River
This is an irrigation canal, hooked up further upstream to a pump that
may or may not still work to bring water directly from the river up
the this level, about 100 feet above river level or so. After this
you'll see two shots that show the contrast: a downright Disney-esque
castle that serves no function I could see: it was empty. In the
foreground there you will see some agricultural workers walking the
road in front of it, but the castle itself appeared utterly empty.
I've a feeling it was built in anticipation of a glut of tourism that
has yet to fully materialize here. You'll also see some weeds piled
next the bicycle their picker rode to work and will load them onto for
the return home. As you'll see in later shots taken from the train,
and you may have seen in other shots from Guangxi, the vast majority
of farm work here in China is still done individually or by families,
by hand.

After being housebound last weekend with a cold, I was looking forward to getting some shooting in this weekend. Luna on the other hand, had different plans. Yesterday afternoon when I was out with my friend she tore up the bath towel in her crate. I had thought she just tore it up. But, no. She acutally ate some of it. Which btw, nicely came back to life when she vomitted it up this morning and this afternoon. So we took an expensive trip to the emergency animal hospital, where she was poked and prodded and pumped full of subcutaneous fluids.
The vet told me not to give her any food or water for the next 16 hours and if after that she has not vommited again to start her on a bland diet. Yeah, he's probably never tried to with hold food from a dal before. Should be fun around here.

Gas
And there's not even a car in this photo. Well, in this group that's no problem. This is no guess, but just a memory and a mood. In the Michigan UP we made a diversion from the main road and we came through a small and almost deserted village. Though many buildings were unused, it was no ghost town. People who lived there took good care of their village, and the council to whatever town it belonged, obviously did too. But this old gas pump, in font of what probabaly used to be the local blacksmith or garage, really caught my eyes. I don't know what company provided the gas for this pump, maybe someone will recognize the color, but it stood there as a monument of busier times. I hope it is still there.

"Tin Tin Tibulation..."stream of consciousness poem. 100% manic from 2003
From a video/photography /soundtrack series I am working on called, "Sorry For The Mess"
I really don't think I could give a better example of a high moment of mixed mania is like then this ecstatic ditty of an poem I wrote off the top of my head while unknowingly manic.
Thank the stars for modern medicine and time. It still blows that it is so misunderstood. Most folks seem to think it not a disease and you can pull up your bootstraps..what horse shit.
Deciphered:
Tin Tin Tibulation
unbalancing of the nunnery
What a riot of conspirers
The multicolore spectrum in his eyes
Tossed salad leaves hIs hair situated
Graveyard sighs romantically
Flattened possum swoons
A bee slaps the queen across the face
gives his resignation
Hearts breast pumping with exhilaration abuzz that tin tin tibulation
Gravities, Atlas raises such encouragement
A willow swoops squirrels to nuts for a carnival ride
Such silly silliness subside!
Climbing!
Kajsa has learned how to climb on top of her toybox. Getting down is a bit trickier...
What's that noise? Uhm, pay no attention to the breast pump being used off-camera!

{ 115/250 technology over time }
Truth be told I had other plans for this shot where I would be standing on this piece of machinery so it would be completely in frame. However, in the process of climbing up, my spidey sense tingled signaling a high likelihood of personal injury and the need for tetanus shots. So, here is a close up of a Pacific Gearworks pump jack, used in the exploitation of oil and petroleum in the Praries approximately 60 years ago. My third installment of SP's featuring technology pieces.
I've included a full picture of the pump below.
Old water pump 2
This old pump didn't have a plastic impeller like I thought most BMW's of this age had as standard, but it still didn't look in great shape. It came out of the block relatively easily by using two of the 10mm M6 thermostat bolts as jacking bolts in the two spare holes - slow and steady wins the race here though!
