Adding De To Sand Filter

adding de to sand filter

    sand filter
  • The oldest and most basic filtration process, which generally uses two grades of sand (coarse and fine) for turbidity removal or as a first stage roughing filter or pre-filter in more complex processing systems.

  • A filter used in water purification and consisting of layers of sand arranged with coarseness of texture increasing downward

  • Sand filters are used for water purification. There are three main types; # rapid (gravity) sand filters # upflow sand filters # slow sand filters

  • (sand filters) Devices that remove some suspended solids from sewage. Air and bacteria decompose additional wastes filtering through the sand so that cleaner water drains from the bed.

Cavalia

Cavalia

Taking some Sunset shots at Passeio de Alges, testing some new Cokin
filters.Down the bank of the river the Cavalia tents glow. I must try to see theshow this week ...

"
Cavalia is an equestrian program from Canada, involving trick riding, vaulting, haute ecole and pas de deux, unbridled displays, and Cirque du Soleil-like performances.

Cavalia was created and directed by Normand Latourelle, one of the original founders of Cirque du Soleil. The musical score was composed by Michel Cusson.

The tour uses 64 horses, all of them either stallions or geldings. Thirteen horses are Lusitanos (and brothers or half-brothers), and the remainder are Canadian Horses, American Quarter Horses, Paint horses, Belgians, Percherons, Arabians, and a young Appaloosa colt. About half of the horses were brought from southern France and the rest are from the United States.

The show is performed in the largest tent in North America, a 2440 m? (26,300 ft?) big top, and takes 40 people 12 days to erect and 7 days to dismantle. The stable adds on another 1070 m? (11,500 ft?), and it takes 45 trucks to move the whole show. The 46m (150 ft) wide stage takes 1500 tons of sand to complete.

The horses are only asked to practise one hour each day, and get two hours each day for play. They only perform for 5-10 minutes per show, 7-8 times each week, and the horses are trained to understudy for each other so different horses can be given the day off. "

Filter Design Techniques

filter design techniques

    filter design
  • Filter design is the process of designing a filter (in the sense in which the term is used in signal processing, statistics, and applied mathematics), often a linear shift-invariant filter, which satisfies a set of requirements, some of which are contradictory.

    techniques
  • Skill or ability in a particular field

  • A skillful or efficient way of doing or achieving something

  • (technique) a practical method or art applied to some particular task

  • The gameplay of the Pokemon series of role-playing video games involves the capture and training of a variety of fictional creatures called "Pokemon" and using them to battle other trainers.

  • (technique) proficiency: skillfulness in the command of fundamentals deriving from practice and familiarity; "practice greatly improves proficiency"

  • A way of carrying out a particular task, esp. the execution or performance of an artistic work or a scientific procedure

Advanced Design Techniques and Realizations of Microwave and RF Filters

Advanced Design Techniques and Realizations of Microwave and RF Filters

The fundamentals needed to design and realize microwave and RF filters.
Microwave and RF filters play an important role in communication systems and, owing to the proliferation of radar, satellite, and mobile wireless systems, there is a need for design methods that can satisfy the ever-increasing demand for accuracy, reliability, and shorter development times.
Beginning with a brief review of scattering and chain matrices, filter approximations and synthesis, waveguides and transmission lines, and fundamental electromagnetic equations, the book then covers design techniques for microwave and RF filters operating across a frequency range from 1 GHz to 35 GHz.
Each design chapter:
Is dedicated to only one filter and is organized by the type of filter response
Provides several design examples, including the analysis and modeling of the structures discussed and the methodologies employed
Offers practical information on the actual performance of the filters and common difficulties encountered during construction
Concludes with the construction technique, pictures of the inside and outside of the filter, and the measured performances
Advanced Design Techniques and Realizations of Microwave and RF Filters is an essential resource for wireless and telecommunication engineers, as well as for researchers interested in current microwave and RF filter design practices. It is also appropriate as a supplementary textbook for advanced undergraduate courses in filter design.

Golden Hour Reflections

Golden Hour Reflections

I couldn't resist taking this of the view just after sunset reflected in the windows of this building along the Thames Path East at Queenhithe. ====================================================================== In part the reason for my trip to London on Sunday was to further experiment with taking shots using the circular polarising filter I recently purchased for my camera. This presented quite a challenge because most of the time I take my shots using manual settings following the Sunny-16 rule of thumb, i.e. setting exposure for shots based on my judgement of the ambient light rather than the light detected by my camera's sensor, which has served me well up until now. Whilst the Sunny-16 ( #//www.digicamhelp.com/taking-photos/advanced-techniques/the-sunny-16-rule/” ) principles for judging ambient lighting remains constant, the addition of a polarising filter on my camera's lens, that by it's design filters the light coming into the camera, meant that sticking to the Sunny-16 rule would likely result in many of my shot being considerably under-exposed. One solution to avoiding under-exposed shots whilst sticking to the Sunny-16 rule, would be to adjust the aperture down a few f/ stops to let more light in. However, this would most likely result in either over-exposed shots or uneven exposure which IMO is as bad as under-exposure. It would be fair to say I am not someone that photography comes naturally to and I have been on a steep learning curve when it comes to understanding many of the basic photography principles and how to go about using a DLSR camera best effect. So after a wee bit of research on the excellent Digicamhelp ( #//www.digicamhelp.com/” ) website I found out a possible solution to balancing exposure is to still set the aperture based on the Sunny-16 principle of ambient light but, rather than using a standard shutter speed of 1/100 or 1/200 (depending on ISO selected) for every shot, the idea is to adjust shutter speed to achieve an evaluative metering of 0EV, or as near as, using the camera's light meter readings with the polarising filter fitted. The only disadvantage I have found in adjusting shutter speed to balance exposure is that it often requires selecting a shutter speed slower than 1/30 secs, which is about the limit for hand-held shots if you want to avoid risk of distortion, so many of the shots I took in London using these settings were taken with my camera mounted on a tripod with a 2 second timer delay. I also used my camera's mirror lock-up feature when I took hand-held shots under 1/60 secs.

A digital painting.

Dry-brush technique, of my own. No commercial program, no add-on filters, nor any foreign layers or textures. Pushed, granted. But all within its own boundaries. Neo-Impressionism.

From a walk in the woods.

View large for best appreciation of painterly qualities. The mural proportion is intentional. In the original format, the work is in very high resolution. The image is meant to be reproduced (by special program) into several 8 1/2 inch x 11 inch segments, reassembled, and mounted (at least) five feet wide. To fit a specific interior decor.

Yours?!

I also intend to try the same process in a ten-foot-wide example. Updates later.

Digital Filters Design for Signal and Image Processing (Digital Signal & Image Processing Series (ISTE-DSP))

Dealing with digital filtering methods for 1-D and 2-D signals, this book provides the theoretical background in signal processing, covering topics such as the z-transform, Shannon sampling theorem and fast Fourier transform. An entire chapter is devoted to the design of time-continuous filters which provides a useful preliminary step for analog-to-digital filter conversion.
Attention is also given to the main methods of designing finite impulse response (FIR) and infinite impulse response (IIR) filters. Bi-dimensional digital filtering (image filtering) is investigated and a study on stability analysis, a very useful tool when implementing IIR filters, is also carried out. As such, it will provide a practical and useful guide to those engaged in signal processing.

Espresso Filter Coffee Maker

espresso filter coffee maker

    filter coffee
  • Drip coffee made with a ceramic, glass or plastic cone lined with a paper filter. Favored by professionals because it gives them control over water temperature — ideally 200 to 210 degrees. This coffee is sediment free, though some believe the filters add unwanted flavor.

  • Drip brew, or filter coffee, is a method for brewing coffee which involves pouring water over roasted, ground coffee beans contained in a filter. Water seeps through the coffee, absorbing its oils and essences, solely under gravity, then passes through the bottom of the filter.

Indian Made Atomic Coffee Machine- Basket and Black Knob

Around 2006 brand new Atomiccoffee makers started appearing on the market. For many years prior to this the only source of Atomic coffee makers was second hand markets and auction houses. Lucky individuals found one in the attic or at a church sale, but most people had to bid high, and pay through the nose. Atomics became extremely collectible.

However all was not as it seemed with these new machines. Although they were labeled as being Bon Trading (australia) imports of Italian made Atomics- they were poorly made with a rough, hand finished appearance. Many of them did not work very well, and they were 'not quite right'...

It was soon discovered that these machines were made in India and falsely labeled as being 'made in Italy'. The prices paid for Indian atomics dropped rapidly and then they disappeared from the market altogether. Today it is hard to find one - and they are collectible in their own right.

For the keen collector interested in purchasing an Atomic it is a simple matter to identify one of these fakes. The most prominent difference between these machine and earlier Italian made atomics is the boiler plug. On the Indian machine this plug sticks out in an ugly fashion. Other obvious differences can be seen in the bakelite parts. These parts are much thicker and are poorly formed compared to vintage atomic machines. The filter basket is distinctive: the holes in it appear to be randomly punched in with a nail or similar implement randomly by hand.

These machine are not too bad as a hand finished attempt to replicate the atomic form. It is by no means an easy (or cheap) process. Sand casting the body is an art in itself. It is clear this machine was reverse engineered from an Italian made Atomic- probably a model dating from the 70's. The example pictured hear is a working one and the original purchasers (who were fooled into believing it was from Italy) actually used it to make coffee for several years. Making Coffee

Making Coffee

They had an unusual process at Phil's Coffee for brewing the coffee. They ground a small amount of beans to brew just one cup, and then had this one off filter systems. They would use a big paper filter, and pour hot water through it manually, then they would pour the brewed coffee through the filter a second time. Mmmm, it was crazy how amazing the coffee was at this place.

IR Lens Flare Study

IR Lens Flare Study

Zweidel's question about Lens Flare in IR Photography intrigued me so much that I decided to run this little experiment. (EXIF data is for the top left photo).

The top left photo has severe lens flare and it appears to be coming from two or more sources. I have severe lens flare on the bottom Right near my left hand and moderate lens flare in the center of the photograph, and a little bit at the far left edge.

Top right: Even though the sun is behind me, you can see that I had direct sunlight hitting the bottom of the IR filter due to the fact that I have it tilted up at a significant angle. This appears to be the source of the worst part of the lens flare. Now for the lens flare in the center ... there appears another light path direct from the sun in addition to the one at the lower right side. The Bottom Right Photo shows how the second light source is entering the optical path. Intense IR light is leaking into the optics between the IR filter and the lens striking the back surface of the IR filter. This back surface light leakage appears to be the source of the lens flare in the center and edge of the Top Left photo.

The Bottom Left photo was taken under the same conditions except I used a 9"x12" envelope in my right hand as a lens hood and held it above the camere so no direct rays of sunlight hit any optical surface ... neither front or back surface ... and the lens flare is gone.

PS: How do you like my "dark shades" and Red & White print shirt in the IR spectrum.

Parametric studies of matched filters to enhance the signal-to-noise ratios of LC-MS-MS peaks [An article from: Analytica Chimica Acta]

This digital document is a journal article from Analytica Chimica Acta, published by Elsevier in 2006. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
Chromatographic parameters of reference signals employed in matched filter methods have been studied using numerical experiments to improve the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratios of small liquid chromatography (LC) peaks obtained with electrospray tandem mass spectrometers (MS-MS). These parameters include the width, shape, and S/N ratios of chromatographic peaks used as the reference signal profiles. Our results show the effect of reference peak widths on improving the S/N ratio of chromatographic peaks; the influence of reference peak shapes is negligible. To verify simulation results, various reference signals, including analyte peaks of high concentration standards, internal standard peaks, and artificial Gaussian peaks of different widths, have been employed to enhance signal peaks on real liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS) chromatograms via matched filter methods. Our experimental results demonstrate that the S/N ratio enhancement of chromatographic peaks agree with the simulation predictions. These findings, therefore, suggest that regardless of peak shape, a well-smooth peak with a width close to that of the analyte peak is an adequate reference signal, when matched filter methods are used to improve LC-MS-MS chromatograms. Nevertheless, all methods processed LC-MS-MS peaks in this study do not achieve the ideal improvement ratios estimated with simulation results. We attribute this deficiency to spike-like noise, which have considerable low frequency components riding on LC-MS-MS chromatograms. Matched filtering, which works as a low-pass filter in the frequency domain, cannot effectively eliminate low frequency flicker noise contributed by these spikes. In addition, simple median filtering does not provide adequate improvement despite being able to smooth out most spikes in the chromatograms.

This is the little board that got Roland into trouble in the 1970s, a clone of the Moog VCF. It sounds really, really nice. I also own a later SH-2000 containing the revised filter, it does not sound really, really nice.
I had to replace the op-amp and electrolytic capacitors to bring this filter back from the dead, it was well worth it.
The filter is the middle part between both dotted lines. The left section is the noise generator and the right is a 3080 based VCA.

Advanced Digital Signal Processing and Noise Reduction

Digital signal processing plays a central role in the development of modern communication and information processing systems. The theory and application of signal processing is concerned with the identification, modelling and utilisation of patterns and structures in a signal process. The observation signals are often distorted, incomplete and noisy and therefore noise reduction, the removal of channel distortion, and replacement of lost samples are important parts of a signal processing system.
The fourth edition of Advanced Digital Signal Processing and Noise Reduction updates and extends the chapters in the previous edition and includes two new chapters on MIMO systems, Correlation and Eigen analysis and independent component analysis. The wide range of topics covered in this book include Wiener filters, echo cancellation, channel equalisation, spectral estimation, detection and removal of impulsive and transient noise, interpolation of missing data segments, speech enhancement and noise/interference in mobile communication environments. This book provides a coherent and structured presentation of the theory and applications of statistical signal processing and noise reduction methods.
Two new chapters on MIMO systems, correlation and Eigen analysis and independent component analysis
Comprehensive coverage of advanced digital signal processing and noise reduction methods for communication and information processing systems
Examples and applications in signal and information extraction from noisy data
Comprehensive but accessible coverage of signal processing theory including probability models, Bayesian inference, hidden Markov models, adaptive filters and Linear prediction models
Advanced Digital Signal Processing and Noise Reduction is an invaluable text for postgraduates, senior undergraduates and researchers in the fields of digital signal processing, telecommunications and statistical data analysis. It will also be of interest to professional engineers in telecommunications and audio and signal processing industries and network planners and implementers in mobile and wireless communication communities.

The Bitron 550 LM is a powerful 550 watt UVC clarifier that is used to reduce suspended algae and pathogens in bodies of water to 250 m3 in volume. Due to the low flow speed relative to UVC performance the displaced water is freed from suspended algae and germs in a particularly effective manner. This means that the water does not need to be recirculated so frequently, and thus expenditure of energy is reduced. Stainless steel reflectors intensify the performance of the UVC bulbs. The Bitron 550 LM is operated as a flow-through UVC above the water level. It can be ideally implemented in combination with the different modules of the Proficlear filter system

OASE 75: 25 Years of Critical Reflection on Architecture

This year the respected Dutch architecture journal OASE celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary. Over the years, OASE has evolved into an international resource in which a reflective and critical approach to architecture, urban development and landscape architecture is the mainstay. Its jubilee is being marked by a special, double-thick English-language edition of the journal that compiles all of its most important historical essays and background articles, making a great many key texts accessible to an international readership for the first time. This anthology affords an overview of the themes that have dominated architectural discourse in the Netherlands, Belgium and beyond over recent decades, set in a broader context by new texts by prominent architecture historians. Thus, this volume is an important source of information on developments in academic debate as well as professional practice in the fields of architecture, urban design and landscape architecture.

NON WOVEN FILTER FABRIC : FILTER FABRIC

Non woven filter fabric : Pentair tagelus sand filter.

Non Woven Filter Fabric

non woven filter fabric

    filter fabric
  • A middle layer of green roof construction, above the drainage layer and below the green roof medium.  Its purpose is to filter small particles and prevent the drainage layer from clogging.

  • A polypropylene textile used to keep soil separate from water. Comes in many different forms and is used for constructing roads, lining ponds, and in many erosion control projects.

  • A form of erosion control, whereby fabric is "wrapped around" the timber abutment in order to prevent soil loss.  This fabric allows for water to freely pass through while not allowing soil loss. This is used on all YBC timber abutments.

    non woven
  • Nonwoven Fabric is a fabric-like material made from long fibers, bonded together by chemical, mechanical, heat or solvent treatment. The term is used in the textile manufacturing industry to denote fabrics, such as felt, which are neither woven nor knitted.

  • Engineered fabric (sheet or web structure) bonded together by entangling fibers mechanically, thermally, or chemically.

  • Neither woven, knitted, nor spun. A material made of fibers in a web or mat held together by a bonding agent.

non woven filter fabric - The 2009-2014

The 2009-2014 World Outlook for Spunbonded Non-Woven Fabrics

The 2009-2014 World Outlook for Spunbonded Non-Woven Fabrics

This econometric study covers the world outlook for spunbonded non-woven fabrics across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-a-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the 230 countries of the world). This study gives, however, my estimates for the worldwide latent demand, or the P.I.E., for spunbonded non-woven fabrics. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided across the world's regional and national markets. For each country, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time (positive or negative growth). In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on international strategic planning at graduate schools of business.

1-3 second sunrise rush

1-3 second sunrise rush

Ah the joys of having Friday off!

I was up at 5 to 6 this morning and headed down to North Beach in Wollongong to one of my favourite 'fishing grounds' - the rocks near the public pool.

This was shot towards the end of the morning. The reason for the less than perfect sharpness is that it was handheld in order to get the lower perspective. I've got a bunch of images that will flow here over the coming days from my tripod - but this one popped as I did my two second review after importing them a couple of minutes ago.

Techie bits..
This is shot with my Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm with a ND8 fllter and my usual Cokin Grad ND 8 on top. I use blu-tac to ensure that I don't get any vignetting with the wide angle adapter. I've shot this with the cloudy skies white balance (great tip for sunrises - everything goes a little orange!) and a bit of exposure compensation (-0.7). The result had a slight curve adjustment on a layer that was then partially masked away on the rocks to reveal the better exposure beneath for that part of the image. I then added a bit of selective colour saturation and sharpening plus watermarks and voila!

Hope your Friday is a good'un ;-)

After Rain

After Rain

The effect of the light falling through the trees after rain was fantastic. Unfortunately, I haven't exposed it correctly to do it justice. I am not sure quite what went wrong - so I have put this image up in the hopes of some answers.

This was shot with a standard exposure program on the 55mm kit lens, with a polarising filter. I took the exposure reading from the pool of light at the front. After reviewing my first shot, I bracketed down -0.7EV, so it exposed at F5.6, 1/13 second. So what should I have done differently to get an exposure that captured the rain drops hanging off the boughs of the trees and the slanting light, without burning out the foreground? Answers below, please.

Though I have shot this beautiful and revered landmark before .. but it has always been on odd hours ... right time to click is morning 7 ... I am not an early riser .. but the pressure to churn out quality visuals made me reach the spot at dot 7 (Hahahahaha)
HDR image merging 27 photographs of different exposures with High Pass and a dodge/burn here and there.
Also after a long time I did a dramatic HDR.
Shot today morning with Nikon D90 and Fish Eye lens.

===========================
Hasanabad or Shah Hasan Ali's Maqbara or Mausoleum is the resting place of 46th Imam - Aga Khan I, Imam of the Nizari Ismailite sect of the Shiite Muslims, circa 1884, Mazagaon.
A marble paean glows through the grime Standing at the threshold of Hasanabad, it's almost impossible to believe that this brilliant blue-domed building belongs to Mumbai.
Its golden minarets evoke memories of Delhi or Hyderabad but not Mumbai's grimy Mazagaon.
Yet, Hasanabad, is a veritable treasure trove of little known nuggets of the city's history.
Aga Khan, a resident of Iran arrived in Mumbai in 1846, and eventually became a permanent resident of the country and died in Mumbai in 1881. His funeral was attended by the consuls of Turkey and Iran as well as high-ranking British officials.
This marble mausoleum took a full three years to build and the minaret is said to be 19 feet high.
The monument may soon gain an important distinction - a new list of heritage structures is awaiting approval and Hasanabad is at last on it.

  • The color balance on a digital camera

  • White balancing adjusts the camera to compensate for the type of light (daylight, fluorescent, incandescent, etc.,) or lighting conditions in the scene so it will look normal to the human eye.

  • In photography and image processing, color balance is the global adjustment of the intensities of the colors (typically red, green, and blue primary colors).

  • A control or system for adjusting this

  • A setting in a camera that compensates for the differences in color temperature of the surrounding light.

The color values of Opteka Digital Grey Card set have been tested under varying light conditions and show a high degree of spectral neutrality. Using the industry-standard X-Rite spectrophotometer, LAB values of L* 63.8, a* -1.6, b* -0.4 are measured from the surface of the grey card under D50 standard illuminant. For optimum color correction, the black card achieves truly deep blacks (RGB 16,16,15). The grey card displays superior spectral neutrality with measured values of 162, 162, 160. The white card has a tested RGB value of (220, 224, 223). All three cards have excellent uniformity across a range of light sources.
