from the exposure detroit photo safari at highland state recreation park. i took a few film shots while on the safari mostly because i knew i would need a fisheye to get the whole pool in and i only have a fisheye for my film camera. cross processed kodak g100 film. if anyone out there is a film user you know that cross processed can be a pain to print because it is so contrasty and saturated. sometimes only 1 or 2 points on a color channel will make for a huge change in the color of the print. this was about as close as i could get after playing with the colors and levels for a half hour but i think i will go back with regular film to get a better result.
now back to the pool itself. there were trees growing up in the pool which made for an interesting scene but the most interesting thing can't be seen. i was the only one who actually jumped into the pool and when i started to walk around toads were hopping away in every direction. seems that they would get into the pool but couldn't get out again so they were trapped, spending their whole lives in a little ecosystem that was probably perfect for them. plenty of shade and leaves to hide under and collected water to drink from. and plenty of other toads too. i must have seen at least 40-50 of them, some the size of an apple down to the size of a nickel. definitely will have to revisit this place.

I don't normally post hidden camera shots, but this group took it too far: 19 people, all more or less excessively overweight, entered the pool and noisily claimed half of the restaurant space. Within seconds, each of them had pulled out a large bag of crisps and started to crunch away, feeding even their one-year olds with the same fat cocktail.

And so they spent their day... Truly scary.
