marrakesh riad-dar najat Dar Najat is a beautiful cosy riad located in the heart of the medina in Marrakech, just five minutes' walk from the famous square, Jema El Fna, which makes it an ideal place to stay! The owner and his team are clearly dedicated to making their guests feel at ease and create an environment full of fun but also very relaxing. The rooms are clean (I stayed there a few times and have never been disappointed), comfortable and quiet, ideal after a busy day in the souks! Olivier is available most of the day to give you tips and organise a guided tour of Marrakech if you would like one. I also loved the fact that there is an outdoor jacuzzi on the terrace where you can enjoy a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice or a mint tea (the berber whisky - yummy!). Breakfast is delicious and served by the smiley and friendly staff who are always there to help and make sure you get the best! Forgot to mention dinner is also available on request and Souad, the chef, is a gem in terms of cooking! I definitely recommend the riad for any kind of travellers - young, older, married or single you will just have an unforgettable experience at Dar Najat. Terre Resort and Spa -Marrakesh-Morocco The classic Marrakesh hotel concept is the riad, typically a mansion in the old medina quarter, a small-scale and intimate sort of hotel, however extravagant the hospitality. The Terre resort, the first from the American-owned Octogone group, takes this concept out of town, to the desert oasis of the Palmeraie, fifteen minutes outside Marrakesh proper, and reproduces it on a larger, more lavish scale. Comprising twenty octagonal mini-riads divided into a total of 52 suites, Terre makes the most of its open-space surroundings, sprawling over twelve acres of land, including a full-service spa and hammam, a vast central swimming pool (to add to the suites’ private plunge pools or jacuzzis) and an entertainment complex, complete with restaurant, lounge and library. This picture in no way represents the day, it's just the only one I took (so I'd remember where I'd parked!). Here was my day: Flight scheduled to leave Dulles Airport at 8:00. Rained whole 2 hour drive down there. Uh oh. Yup, flight was delayed. At first, b/c of mechanical problems. Then JFK airport said we should stay b/c of their thunderstorms. JetBlue so kindly told those of us with a connecting flight to Burlington that we could stay the night at DC and leave in the morning, or chance it that our JFK flight would be delayed too. So we finally boarded at 9:15. Yay, earlier than they thought we would! Oh, but then we're stuck on the plane and can't take off b/c of JFK. So we take off at 10:30. JFK won't let us land b/c of storms, so we have to circle in the air for an hour. Finally land at 12:30...but due to problems can't actually leave *the plane* until they hook up stairs to the plane and bring us a shuttle, as we don't have a gate to use. We get to the airport at 1:00. This is bad, as my connecting flight to VT was scheduled to leave at 10:55. And yes, my connecting flight was delayed...but took off 15 minutes ago. So, I hook up with 4 other people going to Burlington. We'd been talking in Dulles and on the plane about what to do. There's Allen, the manager of a non-profit agency, his employee Trista, college student Rachel, and retired professor at Univ. of Washington and Vermont, Pam. Trista tries very hard to find us hotel rooms. Nothing. Finally gets one, but it's $200+ a night. So Rachel, Pam, and I decide to tough it out at JFK. Our VT flight isn't till 9:15 am. Since we'd left to the baggage claim to help Trista and Allen find their luggage, we can't wait at the terminal. And security doesn't open again for 2.5 more hours... Not enough time to sleep, so we sat outside the security gate and just talked. They don't open security till 4:00...but we can't get in since we might be a "security threat." Why? Because the lovely ticket guy in Dulles who got us our secured seats on this flight printed out tickets that said "June 21" on them, even though it actually leaves the next morning...now June 22. Aaah. Luckily it wasn't hard to fix, but that was a lot of fun. I did manage to get about 2 hours of sleep. It was really nice having Rachel and Pam around, because we watched out for each other and could walk around w/o taking all our stuff (I had a wheeled suitcase and laptop bag). I also was the only one interested in sleeping, as everyone else I knew going to VT was going home and planned to sleep there. I also can sleep pretty much anywhere. Morning flight to VT was, of course, delayed, but only by about a half an hour. Finally arrived at David's 12 hours later than I was supposed to be there. “ Romantic, wonderful, peaceful..perfect ” “We did not want to leave, has to be the best riad in Marrakech” We have recently returned from a 4 nights stay at Riad Dar Najat, what a fantastic riad this is, it is perfect in every way, the location, the staff, the food, everything was perfect. The owner of the riad had organised our airport transfer, it went smoothly and within 15 minutes of leaving the airport we were at the riad. The vehicle we were travelling in was able to get within a minute away from the riad which was handy (even though the riad is located in the middle of the old medina). The location is perfect as it is very close to the main square only a 5 minute walk away and yet it is located in a very peaceful part of the medina, there was no noise in the night at all, which meant a great nights sleep. The riad has recently been renovated and the owner has done a brilliant job, the riad has been decorated in an original way, with artwork throughout the riad. There were 2 roof terraces and one had a lovely jacuzzi on it. It was so magical in the evening as the stars were so bright and the whole riad had such an atmosphere about it, you really felt like you were in such a peaceful place. The food at the riad was special, it was all freshly cooked and tasted magnificant, we requested the kefta tagine which was so delicious, it was served with fresh salads and breads, we loved the food at the riad. Our room was very nice, it had a comfortable double bed and was ensuite, it had its own air conditioning unit which we did not need as it was nice and cool in the riad. The room had complimentry water bottles in it which I thought was a nice touch. Towels were provided and they were changed whenever we requested. The staff at the raid were really special, they were prepared to do whatever we asked, they were always smiling and seemed really happy in their work. On our first visit to the square we were taken there by Amin, he seemed to be at the riad 24/7 and was really helpful to us. When it was time to leave, we did not want to, it felt like our own home, we will definetly be returning to Riad Dar Najat in the early part of 2012. Leider hat man keinen direkten Strandzugang. Den braucht es aber auch nicht. Die Hotelanlage ist gro?flachig angelegt, sehr gepflegt und wunderschon. Die Poolanlage ist schon verwinkelt und schlangelt sich um die Hotellobby und das Restaurant. Das Essen ist typisch Thai und hervorragend. Ich war 5 Tage dort und habe nicht einmal das Bedurfnis gehabt au?erhalb zu essen, da es auf der Speisekarte so viele Leckereien gibt. Die Zimmer sind absolut genial: Riesig gro?, klimatisiert, sehr schon eingerichtet. Das Badezimmer ist auch ein Highlight: Shampoo und andere Badeole sind in schonen kleinen Tonbehaltnissen untergebracht, der Boden der Dusche mit schonen Kiselsteinen bedeckt. Die Badewanne befindet sich "Outdoor" mit Sichtschutz. Mit toller Atmospharischer Beleuchtung kann man hier tolle Tage mit seinem Partner verbringen. Die Zimmer sind ein Traum, vorallem die "Outdoor" Dusche ist wie ein eigenes kleines Privatspa! Pool, Garten Restaurant sind top! Nous avions une chambre Royal Jacuzzi villa avec vue mer. C'etait splendide ! Chambre tres spacieuse, jacuzzi (pour deux) sur le balcon. Prestations excellentes en particulier la restauration (tres fine) et le spa. Tres grande piscine avec transats toujours disponibles. Le personnel est tres aimable et serviable. Egalement propositions d'excursions depuis l'hotel. Une petite navette peut vous conduire a la plage gratuitement en 10 minutes (il y a des petits restos autour). Nous y retournerons c'est sur... As I've mentioned before, I've never actually seen the film. My only knowledge of it, is the music, and that's mainly because there used to be a "Picadilly Bar" ice cream van that travelled Hartlepool that used the "Third Man" theme as its chimes. It always struck me as a bit odd, as it always seemed a bit of a dark film to advertise such a cheery product. I went downstairs to find Jonathan in the reception, hovering over the computers trying to book the tickets. It seemed a pretty long, drawn out process just to book tickets, but then, this was the only English tour for this day, and it was at 1PM. It gave us enough time for us to get ready, and also to don suitable clothing (there was no way I was going in my bestest Slazenger T-shirt). The walk from the hotel, to the sewer was, to say the least, painful. the blisters on the previous day had pretty much doubled in size, and putting pressure on my feet was agonizing. Still, we made it there, Jonathan handed over our booking reservation, and we awaited around for the tour to start. Chris was looking forward to it the least. He disappeared for a drink of water in a nearby shop, and I didn't think he was going to come back. Amazingly, he did.
