Just Because Your Star Shines Bright, Doesn't Mean My Star Doesn't Shine
I don't normally photograph people, but something about this gentleman playing the saxophone for money in front of Fishbone's in Greektown inspired me. Instantly the line by Billy Bragg ( "Just because you're better than me, doesn't mean I'm lazy" ) popped in my head. So many people walked by him, without even giving him a second glance ( or any loose change ) . He was trying everything, impressive scales, the theme to Sanford and Son, etc. There was a chill in the air and people just ignored him to get to the casino quicker. It made me realize how quickly we can make a judgement about someone. For all you know, he could be going to Wayne State University to complete his doctorate and just wanted to make some extra money. All we are saying, is give people a chance....
chasing your dream
Esther has wanted a saxophone for quite some time now. Today she bought one. I was amazed that she could play scales within a few minutes.
Shot was full manual, I guesstimated the exposure and nailed it the first shot.
