There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness.
There are admirable potentialities in every human being. Believe in your strength and your youth. Learn to repeat endlessly to yourself, 'It all depends on me.'
Humor is the only test of gravity, and gravity of humor; for a subject which will not bear raillery is suspicious, and a jest which will not bear serious examination is false wit.
Three o'clock is always too late or too early for anything you want to do.
Bear in mind that you should conduct yourself in life as at a feast.
My wish is to ride the tempest, tame the waves, kill the sharks. I will not resign myself...
I must create a system, or be enslaved by another man's.
Laughing is the sensation of feeling good all over and showing it principally in one spot.
My pessimism extends to the point of even suspecting the sincerity of the pessimists.
