silver quarter ring
So my friend Stoyan went back home over Spring break and picked up a 1964 90% silver quarter for me, so that I could make this ring. I just hammered the edges, then drilled out the center for a cool look. You can actually still read the words, too.
Actually, Stoyan picked up several quarters so that I could make him one, too :) And he refused to let me pay him back for them, so he certainly deserved it!!
Old quarter
I tried to put this in the coke machine today, and it kept spitting it out. Upon closer inspection, I realized that it's very old (1940) and felt different than a newer quarter. Turns out that pre-1965 quarters are 90% silver and 10% copper, while current quarters are ~92% copper and ~8% nickel. I guess coke machines don't recognize pre-1965 quarters!
