Free Tibet spread the word
Free Tibet - Make your own picture and spread the message. The photos I have used in this picture are not my own and were gleaned from Google images search. I hope the owners of the photos will not be upset or offended by my using them in this montage. If so, please get in touch with me, and I will gladly replace them with something else, though they are lovely pictures. I will attempt to find the photographers names and give them due credit.
Peace - One world of free thinkers x
Update - Have contacted the photographer of the main pic and received his permission to use it. His name is Yiftah Elazar he's an excellent photographer IMO.
1st Tripod shot.
My first HDR with a tripod. I finally spent the money and it is worth it. I'm amazed at how much easier this is. This is 12 shots right out of Photmatix. The image is terrible but it's flawless.

My Photo Book
- A photographic album, or photo album, is a collection of photographs, generally in a book. Some albums have compartments which the photos may be slipped into; other albums have heavy paper with a sticky surface covered with clear plastic sheets, in which photos can be put.
One of my photos
I was amazed to be told that one of my photos had been chosen to be included in the recently published "The Atlas of Breeding Birds of Alberta". It's a beautiful book!
Comment from Bird Studies Canada (BSC):
12 October 2007 – After seven years of extensive fieldwork and data analysis, The Atlas of Breeding Birds of Alberta: A Second Look, is now available. This high-quality publication from the Federation of Alberta Naturalists details the distribution, status, and preferred habitats of more than 270 species of birds nesting in the province." It is a "comprehensive, full colour, (LARGE), hardcover book".
I think I submitted about 6 or 8 images last year, and feel very lucky to be included. I believe this is the fifth book that I've been lucky enough to be published in, plus three magazines (which include a beautifully produced children's magazine in Israel!).
OK, now, to bring me back down to earth (!), I need to go and sort out and clean my ancient fridge which is dying, ready for a new one to be delivered on Monday. It's proving to be a bigger task than I thought - taking away precious time on Flickr, LOL!
The book with my photo!
explore
The book "Een Kikker Mijn Buik" is now available in Holland (and on internet) since a few days! There is my photo on the cover as you can see, and it's my little sister Eleanor! I feel very proud, to get my photo as a book cover was my dream!

Japan is known for its photo booths where you can edit your pictures and make them look funny and cute. There is another, lesser known (i.e. more boring) example out there as well: the passport sized photo maker. This one is actually quite convenient because a lot of jobs or government offices will require something like this. If you forgot to bring pictures with you to the job interview or consulate, no problem, stop off at the train station and get a sheet for (with the current exchange rate) $10 USD. CHEAP! :p

1974 Camp Roberts, California Machine Guns
This photo shows a wealth of privately owned automatic weapons by collectors. This was during a recreational shoot after our Army Reserve unit had just sponsored and operated the first Continental United Stated military machine gun competition at Camp Robert, Calif. The weapons used for the competition was the M60 machine gun (now retired). If you view large or in slideshow mode and pause then full screen, you can see what's on the table. they were all operational and we all got to shoot a variety of them. The Army supplied as much ammo as they could muster for this fun shoot. Good way to relax.

Light Fantastic by Ben Bell Ghost Dog
Ben Bell or Ghost Dog is a keen street poetic photographer.
His pictures hardly need words, words would be disgraced such is the visual eloquence of his pictures.
This is the first time after deleting my buzznet accounts, I went to Ben Bells buzz to retrieve his picture of a Dead Indian that I had used for my post, Ben inspired poetry, everytime I visited his Buzz.
It was Ben who commented on every new post , as you know I post a lot, here at Word Press , I have slowed down, I am searching for the lost pictures , to bring them back on the posts where at Word Press they stand deleted, so it is a painful task, my homesite is locked on my home comp, some technical problem, so I copy at WP, also edit, so gradually WP becomes my main site by default.
Upgrading my Homesite is a tedious task, my son Asif Shakir , will undertake, as this site is a photo gallery powered by Coppermine…
I have discontinued posting at New Bloggers..
My hand wound the gash has healed , but the pain and the swelling remain, I pop pain killers, pray to God it heals as I am dying to go to the Koondathar eunuch festival…in Chennai…
All my pictures of Ashura Lucknow 2007 are hibernating on CDS, the bullock cart race that I shot on Holi…this year..I dont have the strength or the stamina, even this herculean task, of adding missing images at WP I did not want to undertake , but my pictures are the soul embedded in words..
Yes I am an incorrigible Photo Blogger …
My remains the flesh of my words the soul of my pictures will be alive on cybernet… even after I am deleted completely from this planet…
Light Fantastic according to Ben Bell is a poem by Milton.
To “trip the light fantastic” is to dance nimbly or lightly, or to move in a pattern to musical accompaniment.
The expression may also refer to setting in motion some operation, often complex, by means of a triggering device. For instance, “tripping the light fantastic” has been used in reference to the triggering of a green traffic signal by deliberately activating an in-pavement sensor approaching an intersection. Bicyclists in particular often find triggering the sensor requires skill and luck (the rider typically must track a narrow groove in the pavement over the sensor wire), and the expression, used by a bicyclist, seems to capture well both the delicacy of the operation and the euphoric sensation experienced when the signal is made to turn green before a stop is necessary.
This phrase evolved through an interesting series of usages and references. The phrase is typically attributed to Milton’s poem L’Allegro, but a somewhat similar phrase appears in Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The phrase in this modern usage comes from the lyrics of the song The Sidewalks of New York. The following chronological list outlines a few notable usages of this and similar sounding phrases.
The phrase ‘tripping on his toe’ appears in William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, written in 1611:
Before you can say come, and goe,
And breathe twice; and cry, so, so:
Each one tripping on his Toe,
Will be here with mop, and mowe.
In this context, “mop, and mowe” means ‘a grimace’.
In the poem L’Allegro by John Milton, published in 1645, a similar phrase appears, which seemingly refers to the dance-like gracefulness of the goddess Mirth:
Come, and trip it as ye go,
On the light fantastick toe.
And in thy right hand lead with thee,
The Mountain Nymph, sweet Liberty;
The term trip in this passage means to step lightly or nimbly. The adjectives light and fantastick (as Milton spelled it) refer to the movement of the feet (toe, or dance step).
Thank You Ben...Om Mani Padme Hum
In English this means “the jewel in the lotus of the heart”; it is a reference to the hidden spark of divinity within each of us. The six syllables of the mantra are said to purify the six negative emotions: pride, jealousy, desire, ignorance, greed, and anger, while simultaneously engendering the six qualities of the enlightened heart: generosity, harmonious conduct, endurance, enthusiasm, concentration, and insight.

Making PoGo sticker prints thinner for Moleskine (2/2)
I use PoGo sticker prints for journal purposes on my Moleskine notebooks but unfortunately they add too much bulk to the pages for my liking.
Therefore I tried to make the stickers a bit thinner by peeling just the picture part apart from the actual sticker part of the print.
I used two-sided tape to stick the picture part to my Moleskine and the photo is now almost two times thinner than it used to be as a sticker. Hopefully now my Moleskine won't bulge that much after some use and journaling :)
Photoplay
It's amazing what fun you can have with your photos and what you can make. The above photo demonstrates greetings cards, Christmas cards, business cards, stickers, calendars, never mind the annual Blurb book that is on the go. I was lucky enough (thanks to Malcolm Ware, the Fife bird Recorder) to have a snow bunting photo published in next month's national Birdwatch Magazine.Bought it in WH Smith yesterday...felt a bit strange!!!!!

Bea Arthur Was A Truck-Driving Marine
Despite denial, records detail late television star’s military career
DECEMBER 9--While she strangely denied serving in the armed forces, military records show that the actress Bea Arthur spent 30 months in the Marine Corps, where she was one of the first members of the Women’s Reserve and spent time as a typist and a truck driver.
The "Maude" and "The Golden Girls" star, who died last year at age 86, enlisted in early-1943 when she was 21 (and known as Bernice Frankel). In a February 1943 letter included in her Marine personnel file, Arthur gave military officials a brief account of her prior employment as a food analyst at a Maryland packing plant, a hospital lab technician, and an office worker at a New York loan company.
Arthur was due to start a new job, but she “heard last week that enlistments for women in the Marines were open, so decided the only thing to do was to join.” While she hoped for an assignment in ground aviation, Arthur noted that she was “willing to get in now and do whatever is desired of me until such time as ground schools are organized.” She added, “As far as hobbies are concerned, I’ve dabbled in music and dramatics.”
As part of the enlistment process, Arthur underwent interviews that resulted in the production of “personality appraisal” sheets. One such analysis described her conversation as “Argumentative” and her attitude and manner as “Over aggressive.” In a handwritten note, the Marine interviewer remarked, “Officious--but probably a good worker--if she has her own way!”
Arthur is pictured here in an official Marine photo taken shortly after her enlistment. A second undated portrait can be seen above.
Arthur, who was fingerprinted during enlistment, started basic training in March 1943 and was initially assigned as a typist at Marine headquarters in Washington, D.C.. Over the following two years, Arthur was stationed at Marine Corps and Navy air stations in Virginia and North Carolina. During her military career, Arthur’s rank went from private to corporal to sergeant to staff sergeant, the title she held upon her honorable discharge in September 1945, according to one document.
On a Marine qualification card that included a section titled “Talent for furnishing public entertainment,” Arthur is credited for “piano & organ 13 years” and “contralto-orchestra.” Her “active hobbies” included hunting with a .22 caliber rifle and “bow and arrow.”
A year after her enlistment, Arthur married a fellow Marine, Private Robert Aurthur, in a ceremony presided over by a city judge in Ithaca, New York. She then formally had her named changed in military records to Bernice Aurthur. It would change again, to Bea Arthur, as she started her post-military career as an actress.
The military records, released in response to a Freedom of Informaton Act request, include a single “misconduct report” filed against Arthur while she was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, North Carolina. For some reason, Arthur did not speak about her time with the Marines. In fact, in a videotaped interview (excerpted below) conducted as part of an Academy of Television Arts & Sciences archives project, Arthur flatly denied serving in the military. When an interviewer said that she had read somewhere that Arthur had once joined the Marines, the actress answered, “Oh, no. No.” She then continued a chronological review of her life by noting that, in 1947, she enrolled in dramatic school in New York.
Meet The MIA: Maggie Davis
Maggie Davis
Collection Maintenance Technician
Years employed at the MIA: 10 (Yikes!)
Describe something interesting or unusual about your work here:
My job is so hard to describe because it involves so many different responsibilities. I guess the most interesting part of my job is that I get to clean the artwork; dust paintings and sculptures in the galleries, polish silver in a lab. I’m also in charge of the museum’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) System. That involves the identification of bugs found in the museum, assessing if they are harmful to the collection, and acting accordingly based upon identification. So if people find a bug in the museum, they capture it, bring it to me, and it’s my job to find out if it’s just a garden beetle or (gulp) something worse.
What was your first job?
My first job was at Bruegger’s Bagels in Dinkytown! I was in high school, and I worked with all college kids. I thought I was pretty cool at the time (and can assure you I wasn’t). I remember going to Ragstock and the Purple Onion coffee shop on my breaks. After college I accepted a full time position in The Museum Shop here at the MIA. I checked in the orders and priced the merchandise.
What’s hanging on your walls?
At work, pictures of my daughter Lucy, a poster of common museum pests, postcards of art I like. At home, it’s just as eclectic. Silk-screened concert posters, framed old maps, quirky “art” I picked up at thrift stores. My favorites are these wooden painted birds from Anthropologie and a Jay Ryan poster for one of my favorite bands, The Frames.
If you weren’t a Collection Maintenance Technician, what would you be?
If money, time and intelligence level were of no factor, I would be an archeologist living in Britain researching Neolithic sites. I’m fascinated with British history. An Anglophile, as I’ve heard it coined! I even have a mini Stonehenge set that my husband gave me for Christmas. I think he was making fun of me, but I love it anyway!

Journalling reads: For most people a shot of the bride’s bouquet is one of the many standard wedding photos. But when have I ever been like most normal people. I managed to forget my bouquet in the rush to get to the registry office on time. We never even realised until it came to taking photos outside We ended up making a detour back home on the way to our wedding reception to grab it.
Wedding Day Layout
This is sort of a summary page of our wedding which will go into my 2009 album, and I will also be scrapbooking all the wedding photos in their own album!
