My Ruin - Leeds Rio’s

The turnout for this gig isn’t a complete sell out with just mainly hardcore My Ruin [8] fans showing up. One reason to why this may of not being a sell out gig tonight may be due to the fact Avenged Sevenfold are playing up the road. Tairrie highlights this by saying ‘we haven’t sold millions of records’ but this hardly matters as My Ruin have a good solid grounding on the fan front. My Ruin stroll out and exhume this attitude and self assurance that seems to be almost smug in the coolest kind of way. A confidence that stamps authority on the stage and that demands your attention. Lead singer Tairrie makes sure she interacts with the crowd quite often. Letting one fan grab the microphone and give an admirable effort for the songs lyrics. ‘Blasphemous Girl’ taken from the ‘Speak and Destroy’ album is one track that is brought out from My Ruins back catalogue of songs. The song has some quite odd and disturbing lyrics behind it like ‘rape me’ and ‘god wants a piece of her ass.’ This song packs quite a punch when the chorus kicks in. Half way through the gig she gives us the story of what happened when she almost lost her arm in a car accident. This leads her to performing a song off the new album ‘throat full of heart,’ which she dedicates to her friend Adele who was there for her after the incident. The song she dedicates is ‘Skeleton Key,’ which has a catchy chorus of ‘Come on baby you don’t wanna be that nice-sell your self at any price.’ For the real My Ruin fan Tairrie plays a song from her old band Manhole with the song Hypocrite. Tairrie tells the audience ‘she’ll never stop, even if she has to be wheeled out on stage.’ After this, the band bows out to the song ‘Made To Measure Baby.’ This song abruptly ends the My Ruins set.If you are lucky to have My Ruin playing at a venue near you, buy a ticket because your money definitely won’t be wasted.
