Remaining Original Components: Cro-Mo DB frameset, SunTour headset, Shimano Deore II BR-MT62 SLQ cantilever brakes and levers, Strong seatpost, and, OURY handlebar grips.

Added Componets: Shimano Nexus inter-7 hub SG-7R46 with Roto shifters, Shimano Deore XT front hub, Mavic XM 317 rims, DT spokes, Forte 26x1.5 tires, Shmano cartridge bottom bracket, Sugino VP crank (vintage 1987), Surly stainless steel chainring, Godspeed chain tensioner, Serfas Traditional fenders, Kalloy AL-222 stem, Soma Sparrow handlebar, Terry Liberator saddle (vintage 2000?), Planet Bike Eco Rack, Redline chain guard, and, Greenfield kickstand.

PERFORMANCE

The bicycle is a comfortable riding bike even on rough roads and handles like a hybrid. I frequently have taken this bike on a twenty mile ride (something I very rarely did with my MTB). The Nexus-7 has broken in with time and produces less drag than I originally expected. I love the roto shifting and internal gearing. The only drawback is that I live in the hills and having one or two gears lower than my lowest gear would be a blessing. At the time, I didn't want to spend the extra money for an 8 or 9 speed.

The bicycle was originally built for running errands and shopping and is well suited for that purpose.

NOTE: With the exception of the brake set, the original Shimano Deore componets were saved as replacement parts for the 1988 Stumpjumper, and, the Deore Biopace crank replaced the Sugino XD replacement crank on the Stumpjumper.
