At the races
The Grand Prix bicycle races at Queen's Park, Toronto, on September 19, 2010. The cyclists raced around Queen's Park Crescent, which is not a crescent but an oval.
The building in back is the Ontario Legislative Building -- that is, the provincial legislature. The architect for the part we can see was Richard Waite, and it opened in 1893.
The statue is of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada's first prime minister (1894, Hamilton Plantagenet McCarthy). The statue was erected two years before Ontario succeeded in its long campaign to destroy Macdonald's vision of a Canada with a strong central government.
