That time of year again. Better do this while I still have a chance... I'm looking forward to seeing
how the hosts do this year. Even though I'm not remotely a fan of James
Franco. Our new Catwoman? That's a different story. Love her.

Best Picture... "The King's Speech"... I'll have to admit I haven't seen "The Social Network" yet.
I just can't find interest in it. Perhaps tonight I'll rent it. So my

It's a glorious day over here in Easbourne. I can't believe that it's nearly October and the sun loungers were out!

I borrowed my friend's new Olympus PEN at lunch today and played around with the art settings down at the beach. I used the the tilt-shift setting (they call it something else). These are my feet, but someone said it reminded them of Alice in Wonderland...

I think it's a great little camera, but I am toying with getting the G9 for my impending Everest trip.

I remember getting this on Christmas Eve the year it came out and playing the hell out of it. My first encounter with SFII was at an arcade in a movie theater, I think after Batman Returns was over. Someone gave up on the cabinet and walked away, so I saw what they were playing. It was Ryu vs Dhalsim, and I was frantically trying to beat him, but lost. Soon after, the SNES version popped up as an in-store demo at places like Target, Software Etc., Toys R Us and others. I'd play it whenever we'd go there, and ended up favoring Blanka, with Chun-Li a close second. Though before I quit playing games, I was almost exclusively Chun-Li in any SF game. Blanka kinda faded into obscurity around the Alpha and Capcom vs SNK times.

The main memory I'll always have with SFII is trying to beat Vega. I could get past Balrog without a problem, but Vega ALWAYS whooped me. When I'd win a round, I'd be amazed, then lose the next in no time because I was too shocked to do much. It seemed like it was months before I finally beat his sorry-ass. And you know what happened the night I did finally beat him? The trailer behind ours caught on fire. THE TRAILER IMMEDIATELY BEHIND OURS CAUGHT ON FIRE. I'm not even kidding- the second I got to see Sagat in his fighting stance with the huge statues behind him, my parents told me that we had to get out right away. I was ready to cry because there I was- finally triumphant over Vega, and yet we had to leave. All I could wonder was for how long. I tried to leave on the SNES while the tv was off, but they turned it off anyway. It was a while before I beat Vega again. When I did do it again, I was practically a master as Chun-Li.

Before moving out, the SNES was always plugged into my old tv, and I'd play it every now and then, and eventually beat the game with every character but Guile and Ken because I never liked them.

I'm taking in the game this weekend along with all the other ones I still have. Thanks for all those great memories SFII. You were one of the few games that I got to play with my dad on a regular basis, even if he was always cheap and would just duck and attack from there.

Channel Hopping

It has been a horrible day today. Lots of rain and really depressing. I ventured out, as I want a new computer, preferably a Mac, but they are a bit pricey and I can't justify the expense.

I got home to find Danbo flicking through the rubbish Saturday TV. He look quite comfortable and happy. Eventually he settled on Karate Kid. That movie seems to be on all the time at the moment! He was fascinated by the martial art and suggested he might like to try it. He could do with something to stop him being so mischievous and keep him fit. So we shall see. It would be good for someone so short in stature to be able to defend themselves too :D

Hope you weekend has been better than mine so far!

Raquel Welch is Myra Breckinridge (Michael Sarne, 1970)

The climactic scene of Michael Sarne's "Myra Breckinridge" could belong to a game of Clue: Great Hollywood Follies Edition — Raquel Welch, in the nurse's office, with a sex toy. In the indelible moment, Ms. Welch, as a whirlwind acting teacher and would-be gender revolutionary, clad in a star-spangled bikini, unveils new horizons to an all-American hayseed-turned-budding thespian. Fueled by Gore Vidal's rambunctious source novel, the 1970 film was a studio production aiming to shock and subvert, and the result was a treat for gawkers of 1960s camp. Thirty-eight years after its premiere, New Yorkers can watch the oddity firsthand in a new print this weekend at Anthology Film Archives.
"Myra Breckinridge" picks up where the likes of Otto Preminger's "Skidoo" and "Candy" (another adaptation, from Terry Southern's picaresque) left off — which, one might fairly ask, is where, exactly? The rough idea among bewildered producers at the time seemed to be that the canniest response to the groovy '60s zeitgeist was wild 'n' crazy satire starring an embarrassing miscegenation of fresh young things and screen icons you weren't sure were still alive.
"Myra Breckinridge," a latecomer to the party, privileges sex over the drug revolution, and is ever so slightly elevated by Mr. Vidal's pretensions, but it compensates for its lack of psychedelia with a hallucinogenic co-billing. Joining Ms. Welch, who might have known better after appearing in Southern's "The Magic Christian," was 1930s vaudeville-born sexpot performer-gag writer Mae West. Here, age 76, she's looking for man-flesh as a casting agent with admirable, unstinting innuendo.
The plot of "Myra" is, like its climax, by turns awful and awe-inspiring, and bursting with fodder for a thousand febrile seminar papers. Myra (Ms. Welch) begins life as Myron, initially played by the film critic Rex Reed; a set piece sex-change scene makes the switch, in the sub-Fellini setting of an operating theater with applauding audience and a desultory whip-master for atmosphere. Myra, to whom Myron continues to appear and speak, then begins her erudite and erotic assault on a pitiful acting school headed by her Uncle Buck (John Huston in full-on drawl and 100-gallon hat, and introduced atop a stuffed horse). Myra's subversive techniques as a new teacher at the school, part of a bid for the Westwood land that hosts its campus, consist of a constant stream of revisionist film criticism and the seduction first of heartland doofus Rusty (Roger Herren) and then, tamely, his girlfriend (Farrah Fawcett in her Hollywood debut). None of it is explicit, although, like "Midnight Cowboy," which is referenced at one point, "Myra" was originally rated X. Myra's breathless deconstruction of cinema is treated partly as a joke, partly with perplexed titillation, and tends toward glossed-over double-take pronouncements ("Masculinity died with Burt Lancaster in 'Vera Cruz'").
But the film's lurid enactment of a changing of the guard in Hollywood is grotesquely fascinating (even though Mr. Sarne, its forgotten director, was no harbinger of genius). Besides Myra's pronouncements on cinema, the film hiccups regularly with inserted clips from black-and-white Hollywood movies from the 1930s and '40s. These clips comment on the proceedings, a little like the ones used in the '90s HBO boomer dramedy "Dream On," and perhaps inspired by a similar technique in William Friedkin's 1968 film "The Night They Raided Minsky's."
Of course, in "Myra," commentary tends toward using a Laurel and Hardy gag about an endless wooden plank for a joke about penis size. But there's a jolt to seeing Laurel and Hardy or "The Mask of Zorro" deployed — along with the whole Cinemascoped production might of 20th Century Fox — for a movie in which Ms. Welch tears off her undergarments to prove her new parts to a lawyer. Hollywood nostalgists might laugh to keep from crying, but one thing that's always well-preserved is hyperbolic movie-bomb mythos.
But all this leaves the best for last, as West might say, though she'd make it sound dirty. As queen of the casting couch Leticia Van Allen, West leers at rows of aspirant young bucks (including a green Tom Selleck) and savors lines she might have liked to deliver onscreen decades earlier. Costumed specially by Edith Head and encased in makeup or some species of preservative that renders her face a peaked waxen death mask, West presides over her own musical numbers, including a funk ditty. In her way, she's one of the more inspiring bits of taboo-taunting here (and it wasn't even her last bow: See 1978's "Sextette" opposite Timothy Dalton). Still, as a critic once wrote of Preminger's "Skidoo," this all inevitably sounds more interesting than it plays.

09-Wolverine-&-Gambit

The ninth shot is of Wolverine and Gambit (both 90s line I believe, but unsure of origin). This shot was light painted over a Gel background to emphasis the rage of Wolverine and the cool of Gambit. I couldn't help but poke fun at the ludicrousness of Wolverine wearing Yellow, and Gambit seemed like the best person to make the comment.

Their job is guarding gold shipments from the mining camps - shipments that keep getting hijacked by a gang called the Devils of Deadwood who carve pitchforks into their victims' bodies. With Thanksgiving approaching, Scratch just wants to carve a turkey with a handsome widow woman at his side. Course, when the U.S. Army comes to the rescue, all hell breaks loose. The widow gets taken hostage, so do a bunch of soldiers. Now, Scratch and Bo are going after missing gold and a band of vicious killers in the heart of a winter storm.

My first 365-shot of stuffed animals, took a bit longer than I thought as there are quite a few of these laying around. These are not just any stuffed animals though, they are Manhattan Toy TipToes (the first series) which both my parents are collecting (large pig is mine, small one is my fathers).

Interesting fact: stuffed animals from Manhattan Toy can't be found in Manhattan, we went to a bunch of toy shops when we were there, including most of the ones listed as official retailers, but TipToes where nowhere to be found. Luckily the looked-for beaver (from the second series) was found later on Ebay.

“Happy Half-iversary myWife!”

Today is Friday, March 27, 2009 and it’s my 6th month wedding anniversary! :-)) hehe... It’s been 6 months since Maggie and I got married... since Maggie made me the happiest woman alive... and since myLove gave myHeart the most precious gift ever – a lifetime with her heart.

I’m not one who celebrates weekly, monthly anniversaries, but I do like to celebrate half-yearly ones :-) I’m schmoopy, but not that schmoopy! And we regularly express sappy schmoop on a daily basis so there’s really no need to have an official celebration. :-)

For the longest time Maggie has told me about a kid’s toy a friend of hers in college had and how much she loved it. “It’s got the best sound and it makes you smile!” she would say to me. Well, I knew what she was talking about b/c as a child I had one... and yes... LOVED it!

So for this anniversary I wanted to give her something she’d never expect. :-) *I’ll save the romantic items for the actual yearly anniversaries. Hehe. I was so worried that she’d be the one to receive the box from the post lady and I knew the moment she moved the box she’d know what was inside and the surprise would be ruined. So...luckily for me, I didn’t sleep well agaaaain last night so I called in sick today to catch up on some zzzz’s. *and I was now able to be home to intercept the package ;-).

I wish I’d have had my camera ready when she opened the package, b/c her expression... was... priceless! :-))) She just stared at it... mouth open... a smile on her face... speechless. It was exactly what I’d hoped to see!

I’ve added a video of the Happy Apple so that those of you who have no idea of what it is or what it sounds like you can now know. :-)

This is way off topic but we just changed Niko's food today he was on the Purina EN which is like a perscribtion dog food you can only get from your vet since he has a super sensitive stomach but the vet said we didnt need to keep him on that just switch to something that says sensitive stomach so I switched him to Nutro Sensitive Skin and Stomach well I cdan tell you that food is not gonna work cuz all he keeps doing is "cutting the cheese" and just about killing me. I feel as if I am in Niko's Gas Chamber -_- awful and the whole time he was on the perscribtion food he hardly "cut the cheese". So I am going back to the other food even thouhg its kinda pricey its worth it xD

I dedided to head out and get some landscape shots today and wanted to get some contrasting colors. I ended up here at the shore of the Grand River in Grand Haven. These reflections were just fantastic and the warm colors of the shoreline contrasting the cool water was simply amazing to see. I couldn't pick just one so I posted four of my favorites. The warm setting sun made these shots possible.
