Wheel Bearing Grinding
- A bearing or bearing assembly located at each wheel allowing the wheel to spin around the axle with minimal wear and friction. Front wheel bearings are contained within the hub, and are sometimes integral to the hub. A wheel bearing set consists of an inner and outer bearing.
- (of a sound or motion) Harsh and grating
- the wearing down of rock particles by friction due to water or wind or ice
- (of a state) Oppressive, tedious, and seemingly without end
- material resulting from the process of grinding; "vegetable grindings clogged the drain"
- a harsh and strident sound (as of the grinding of gears)
The wheel thing
The other Volvo owned by Thomas Emmett was this FL10, unusually bearing non-dating registration YNX 455. This beavertail lorry seemed to be another jack of all trades and here is offloading the wheel sets from Thomas's rides; the silver ones belong to the Twist and the red ones to the fold-up Dodgem track. The flat trailer was used to carry the security fencing erected at the entrance to the ground.
Great spur wheel
This iron wheel is fitted to the main upright shaft (Its thrust bearing may be seen in the previous pic). The teeth are made from hard applewood and are designed to be easily replaceable. Indeed apple orchards were often planted near windmills for that purpose. The spur wheel drives four pairs of grindstones via small pinions (not visable) known as "nuts"
