Detail view: (from the bottom up)
1. exposed, developed 35mm film negative cut to size as an IR filter
2. rubber/foam spacer
3. Marumi Waterproof UV filter.
The Marumi filter used here was the thinnest screww mount filter I owned. It is reasonably toughened as well. I had an optometrist's technician grind a broken peice of the filter down to the correct size.
In subsequent research, I found that it is neccessary to use an IR filter to assist with managing Auto-Focus issues and to reduce fogging of the image by UV contamination since the ccd is also highly sensitive to UV.
Now, should the two filters go together and then the spacer followed by the sensor or separate the filters and have the ccd touch up against the peice of film?
A good question. Some talk about internal reflections within the camera as a possible problem with images. To me the spacer is there primarily to keep the two peices of glass apart. To me, will the film filter move and scratch the surface of the CCD? I don't think so, so it's six of one and half a dozen of the other.
