Carabinerous de Chile motorcycle traffic cops of Santiago are plentiful and incredibly professional looking. I'd love to have one of their BMWs to replace my aging ZX1100D.

Interesting that women are motorcycle police too and many ride high end scooters of varying sizes. Many of the women police do traffic control and zoom around the city in pairs on scooters or motorcycles, as do the men.

They seem quite confident and happy in their jobs. They are very well dressed in starched, pressed uniforms and from what little I've seen, quite friendly and courteous. In this weeks Santiago news paper that was a special color insert of about ten pages and what life is like in the police force. Tuition for advanced education is paid, they have a solid salary, with great benefits, and the whole career path seems well designed.

The do use an extensive system of hidden video cameras and speed traps throughout the city. Speeding and running lights is not tolerated. I watched at length a sophisticated setup for ticketing speeders in the city.

The weather here in Santiago is perfect for policing via motorcycle will little rain most of the year it seems. It's December but summer here with highs around 85 every day and few clouds and little humidity. Santiago is nestled at the base of the Andes mountains about 75 miles from the coastal city and major cruise ship port of Valparaiso.
