This is Honda's 1990 sales brochure, showing the street bikes for that year. The dirt bikes are on the other side of the brochure, but I didn't scan that in. This was a great lineup, as many of these bikes became cult classics, even if they didn't generate big sales.

Halogen bike light parts
I decided to make my own halogen bike light set-up for my commuter bike. It gets pretty dark in Seattle during winter, and I'll be needing some good light to see and be seen. I am using a 1 1/2 inch male and female abs plastic fittings, a 1 1/2 inch pvc end cap, a ceramic MR-16 socket, rca cable (with y split), a little on-off push button, a rca socket, some heat shrink and two MR-16 20 watt halogen lights (one narrow beam and one flood beam).

The L side unit re-assembled (and painted!). This setup has served remarkably well and shows several things about how I did this. It allows me to have a full, standard, 18-speed bicycle "transmission", with all it's ease of shifting and standard (cheap/free) parts, and be able to link back with 2 gearing ranges to the reduction drive (which itself has 3 ranges).
The normal bicycle gearing gives you a 4.5:1 ratio of highest to lowest gears; in kinetic sculpture racing, I think a minimum of about 10:1 is needed. You need something high enuf for paved road, and really, really low for the mud pit and the climb of "June's Dunes" in the Arcata race.

1982. I bought my first 'serious' bicycle, a Peugeot with nice wheels and sew-up tires. There were miles of gorgeous, paved trails radiating like a spoke from the center of Karlsruhe, in West Germany. This was before Ronald Reagan single-handedly brought down the Berlin Wall.
I had a cheap compact (for the time) Olympus camera with a timer. Shot lots of Agfachrome film from the Army Audio-Photo club at Neureut Kaserne. This is a scan of a slide from the Olympus.

About time, AT&T.
In less than 24 hours, AT&T will finally have caught up with the rest of the world, and will activate MMS for the iPhone. MMS is a feature I have never used frequently (due to extra charges), but it will be nice to finally at least have the option to send pics/videos via texts.
Walked into the garage at 8:30 this morning to find a flat tire. Luckily, Nick had a spare tube and I was able to change it this afternoon. Hopefully this weekend we are going to go to Performance Bicycle to get some things: (spare tubes, CO2 pump, water bottle holders, new pedals, a new headlight). Sometimes it seems like I put alot of effort/money into keeping my bike top-notch, but then I remember that its still a hell of alot cheaper than owning a car!
What's up? Oh Haleakala that's what is up!
It was uphill right from the gun. About 2 hours into the ride I still looked fresh in this picture. See all those stuff in my back pockets? They are weather gears for the summit (50F and high wind up there), food (mainly energy bars), extra tubes and a CO2 pump. A lot of extra weight to carry.

With a range of 20 miles in an hour the electric bike is a great alternative to the car. They don't need to be registered or ensured because technically they are bikes. ...Was exploring an old farm place a few miles south of town, and heard the bikes. Got there just as the sun was going down. A farmer has made himself (and kids) a racetrack in the middle of corn country, and holds races a few time each some summer.
Cropped about 25%, some curves, 'Neat-Imaged' to remove some noise, softened around the sun just a bit, bordered (Paint Shop Pro 7).
Thought it might make a good "advertisement".
Girl Bikers
There was a secondary track for younger riders - there were a fair few little girl bikers out. Given that dirt bike racing is a pretty masculine looking sport these girls still had pink helmets and purple body armour.
Maybe this is what happens when dads want sons and get daughters? Or maybe they're just daredevil kids.

Great day! I had lots of fun in Tdot with these people. Being broke and without a job didn't help my shopping situation. Knowing I had my job orientation that night made me at least spend some money and did not end up going home empty handed.
6000 miles in 60 days
I just completed 6000 miles in my Elise. Its been 60 days of the best driving experiences of my life - canyon carving, city driving, highway cruising and even a couple of track days. This is one experience that was definitely worth the wait - heres to hoping the next 6000 go just as well.
