This Canada goose had clearly tired of all the photographs I was taking of him and his mate. Enough is enough, telephoto zoom or not. He flew from the Little Naches River, upstream and gracefully made a two point landing in this "lookout perch" above the river.

For hiking I like my Canon G9 & G10, but for wildlife the Canon XSi, with its much faster shutter response time is the "right camera" for me.
The XSi came with two kit lenses: an 18-55 mm and a 55-250 mm lens. Both work well. But I wanted a little faster autofocus response and a little more telephoto for wildlife photography, so when the Canon EF 70-300 mm IS USM lens showed up at a low price on Costco.com, I ordered it.
Returning from a four day camping and hiking trip in the Columbia River gorge, I found the lens had arrived, so I couldn't wait to give it a trial run.
I drove up Chinook Pass (highway 410) which is closed near the summit, until I reached the Little Naches River. I drove slowly up the road hoping to find some deer, hawk or anything that "moved" to try out the new lens.
I soon ran into a lot of snow and had about given up when I saw these two Canada geese across the river. I parked the truck and "stalked" them from the opposite bank, pushing my way through willow and watching my step on snow and rounded river rocks.
I know I disturbed them for the ten minutes I photographed them, but I trust I did them no long term harm.
Both geese swam down the Little Naches River at a leisurely pace, to put some distance between me and them. When I followed them downstream, the larger one, flew up the river and landed in a broken off Douglas-fir, while the smaller remained in the river.
It was at that point I decided I had got enough photos and wanted to leave the handsome couple alone. These are the first photos taken with the new lens. I think I'm going to like it. All photos are hand held.
Mustang
This is my car. I bought it 10 years ago because it was a good price. As you can see it still had its snow tires on at the beginning of May. The only thing that can stop me in the middle of winter is the hard-drifting stuff where I might bottom-out. We put the mags on soon after this photo was taken and of course had a couple of snow storms after that. Man - was I slipping and sliding!
I love the giddy-up-and-go this car has - when I need to pass a logging truck quickly - I know I can! But my sister says I'm 'a waste of a good car' because I don't really 'use it to it's potential'. I don't often speed for many reasons:
1. I don't want to kill anybody,
2. I don't want to die,
3. I hate paying the fines,
4. I love to look around and see what's out there. You never know when you'll see a hidden little road - like this one that lead me straight down to the Freeman River where I wandered and took pictures for an hour.
