Christmas 1962 with the Robot Commando Toy Yes, we wore suits at our house when we opened gifts at Christmas. Sometimes I still do. This is the best toy I ever got for Christmas. The Robot Commando. Even the name was cool. Its eyes swirled in their sockets, it roamed the carpet on two wide black wheels, and it shot ping-pong balls out its shoulders. Best of all, the top of its head flipped open to shoot, um, missiles I think. If you wanted to point to one thing in my life that sparked a lasting interest in mechanics and engineering, this be it. When you opened that plastic skull, you had direct access to all the gears, cams, pulleys, rods and wires within. I must have ripped off half the skin on my hands trying to reach in and examine how all that apparatus worked. I eventually broke it from some deeper explorations. My mother was mad but my father and I took it as an opportunity for applied screwdrivers and hex wrenches. Marvelous time with old dad. The surgery was not successful. From then on, I supplied the motion and the noise to the toy myself. I don't think our family dog was ever the same after this guy entered our home. The photo itself was taken with a Sawyers Mark IV TLR that shot 127 film. The film was Ektachrome. I'm amazed there was any color left on this slide for me to scan. I still have the old Sawyers. It's on the shelf next to me with a broken shutter. The Robot Commando? It's been protecting the local landfill from bad guys for decades. Happy Holidays Everyone! Under the tree.. Waiting for santa ;] sooo i definitely added everything to the right of olivia, because there was just a black space and yeah i think its cool! soooo heres the christmas song for today because i just heard it and its been a while since i updated<3 chestnuts roasting on an open fire, jack frost nippin at your nose<3 yule tide carols being sung by a choir and folks dressed up like Eskimos, everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe will help to make the season bright! Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow, will find it hard to sleep *in 9 nights* they know that santas on his way, hes loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh, and every mothers child is gonna spy to see if reindeer really know how to fly... and soo im offering this simple phrase... to kids from ONE to NiNETYTWO although its been said many times many ways... MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU*!!
