2010 NEW TOYS

When we woke up this morning at 7am it was already 33°C. In the house. Nothing to do but pack our gear and head to the park IMMEDIATELY.

Today, our gear was: a towel featuring a sexy nekkid lady surrounded by crocodiles, a complete change of clothes for Mr Toddler, a bottle full of tap water, two bananas, a bag of rice crackers, swim diapers, the Saturday and Sunday copies of the Toronto Star (both still unread), and a pink ball, a toy stroller, and one baby doll.

It's always a little bit cooler in the park. It's a large park, with lots of tall shady trees, and a big wading pool that seems to bring the temperature down a bit.

We're home now. He's passed out upstairs, grimy and wet and exhausted. I'm chugging water and trying to work myself up to doing some chores. It's cooler inside the house than it is outside, which is a small relief. Environment Canada tells me it feels like 46°C out there. Is that even possible?

It's hard to do anything in this weather. The thought of throwing on a load of laundry fills me with dread. (As it should, we're supposed to be conserving energy.) I barely eat anything, except a slice of watermelon here and there, maybe a strawberry. My skin is constantly sweaty and dirty. I took a cold shower this morning and was comfortable for five minutes or so, before I was again completely covered in a thin sheen of sweat and sunscreen and grime.

My two little monsters - we bought them both a Cozy Coupe at Christmas and I must say it's one of their favourite toys. They used them inside in the winter and now they've gone outside they use them several times a day either pushing each other round, pushing their own car round or sitting and zooming around with their feet. I'm really loving this age, every day is full of laughter, discovery and new words and the odd test to see how far they can push things. They really are firm friends and I can really see the advantages of twins - having two children at the same age with the same levels of development and play,

So this is a perfect representation for "friends" for this month's SH.
