Bernard Edwin Dunn
July 2, 1924 - May 27, 2009

DUNN, Bernard Edwin (Bernie) - After a brave battle with cancer Bernie passed away peacefully at home in his 85th year on May 27, 2009.
Beloved father of Natasha (Lauren), D’Arcy (Janet) and Tori (Adrian). Greatly missed by grandsons Steven and Sean, sisters Elizabeth and Barb, brothers Paul, Gary, Malcolm and Peter and numerous nieces and nephews. Also fondly remembered by extended family Cheryl Crompton and Paul Kosinec. Predeceased by wife Connie (Walsh), brother Jim, mother Olive and father Casimer.
Bernie was born on the family farm in Fenelon Township on July 2, 1924. He proudly served his country as a member of Conn Smyth's 30th Battery in World War II and maintained an active role and friendship with the surviving members for 64 years.
He spent his post war career in St. Thomas, Ont. as a tobacco salesman and then a partner in a business. His favorite career was at Key Publishers. When he retired at age 65, he was the publisher of Key to Toronto Magazine (now known as "Where Toronto").
In leisure time he loved to play golf and hockey around the world. He entertained his teammates with his purchase of new hockey equipment at the age of 80, hanging up his skates at the age of 82 proudly proclaiming himself to be Toronto's oldest "Oldtimer." Golf was his other passion and he served two terms as president of the St. Thomas Golf Club during his time there.
Cremation has taken place and a private burial is planned in the family plot at the Glenarm Cemetery in Fenelon Township.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Bernie's life and share their stories and memories on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 from 1 pm until 5 pm at the Swansea Town Hall at 95 Lavinia Ave, Toronto, ON M6S 3H9, phone (416) 392-1954.
If desired, memorial donations can be made to Bernie's favorite charity, the Salvation Army.
