Derek McNear isn't about to turn down a cute, curvy woman offering sizzling-hot sex at his best friend's wedding reception. A tall man in a tux was standing just outside the door. She tried to push herself back further into the shelves, hoping that her dark pink dress would help her to blend in with the crates of supplies. Maybe if she didn’t move, didn’t make a sound, didn’t even breathe, she could be left in peace with her memory of the taste of his skin and the beating of his heart on her lips. Callie had spent the past ten minutes rubbing the goose bumps on her arms and trying to convince herself that she had had enough of Derek. But now that he was standing only feet from her—somehow she had known all along that he would find her and now he had—it was all she could do not to fling the door open, pull him inside the cramped space with her, and rip his clothes off. At the same time, an annoying inner voice of reason was telling Callie there was no point to giving in to her baser needs. One night of mind-blowing sex wasn’t going to help anything. It wasn’t going to save her business. And it wasn’t going to save her pathetic love life. Although, she thought with a small upturn of her lips, it was guaranteed to be fun. The doorknob turned and in the dim light of the refrigerator, Derek’s warm voice wrapped around her. “I thought I might find you in here.” Callie was both alarmed and aroused by his presence, by the way he filled up the room with his essence. The crazy mix of feelings made it hard for her to speak. Again. “I, uh…” she said as he stepped into the refrigerated space with her. He closed the door behind him with a soft but definite click, never once taking his eyes from her. His voice laced with humor, he said, “There’s no lock, but at least it’s private. We’ll just have to hope no one needs any milk.” “Actually, I was looking for the milk, for, um, coffee for the reception.” Picking up a carton of milk, she said, “So now that I’ve found it, I…” Derek took a step towards her and Callie, who felt as if she was the lioness being hunted by a needy lion, dropped the carton of milk on the floor. It broke open and spilled onto her shoes, but she hardly noticed the wet splash of milk. All she could feel was his heat, as if he was drawing him to her via some sort of sexual infrared. She could try all day, all week, all year, to tell herself she didn’t want what he was offering her. But it would never stop being a lie. Because she did need it. Because she did need him. Desperately. He pinned her against the shelves with one arm on either side of her. “You weren’t looking for milk,” he said, his voice husky, a breath away from her lips. “You were looking for this.” And then he kissed her. (8) Return to Innocence By Rebecca Tabor Armstrong We took our tea on a patch of grass beneath the shade of the changing leaves that clung to oak branches and stretched up into the October sky. It tasted of wild flowers and pebbles and dirt, but I agreed to another cup when she offered it and watched with delight as her tiny fingers poured a second helping of imagination. My eyes kept to her fingertips and I continued watching as the invisible liquid spilled down her small hands, washing over the modest bits of the afternoon that were trapped beneath her fingernails. When we finished our tea, she dug her hands into the earth and sifted through the dry soil, uprooting weeds and insects and other buried treasures. Her bare toes meandered in the uncut grass, the soles of her feet stained with the green remnants of summer. She sang a made-up, off-key tune to a scattered melody and drifted away into the lazy autumn afternoon, further into one of the imaginative endeavors of the childhood that she invited me to join her in. Makayla wants to be a princess when she grows up, at which time she would like to be called “Mary Poppins.” She told me earnestly in her deep voice very matter-of-factly as though she was telling me the color of the sky or how many letters are in the alphabet (although she claims there are two hundred seventy-two). Her sister, Cheyenne, wants to be the person who blows up all the balloons that amble about the ceilings of grocery stores and gas stations. She thinks that they are blown by mouth, which she views as a gloriously splendid vocation, and I haven’t yet told her that her aspiration is neither a profession nor done with breath. I want her to keep her dream as long as she can before the cruelty of the world steals it away from her. I don’t want her to know yet that adulthood has a vicious way of tainting youth’s ambitions – that a would-be airline pilot will settle for a position as a bank teller, that the kid that once dreamed of saving lives will end up bagging groceries, and that her beautifully romantic ideas about balloons and ribbon are nothing more than rusty helium tanks, cheap latex and minimum wage. When the girls asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I told them that I was already grown up and that I still wasn’t entirely sure yet. Their little lips parted in astonishment and they began to make a game out of suggesting what I might decide to be – astronaut? baby doctor? lion tamer? fudge-maker? – and Makayla offered to relinquish her position as princess to me once she became queen. (I can take over the name “Mary Poppins” as well, as she would like to be referred to as “The Little Mermaid,” or “Mermy” for short, upon assuming the new position.) Cheyenne told me that I must not be grown up yet since I didn’t know what I wanted to be in life, and when I told her that I was indeed a grown-up, she asked me how I knew for certain. When I was her age, I believed that one day I would wake up and just somehow know that I was all grown up. But it happens more slowly than that. The transition transpires little by little over time, so gradually that one hardly notices. I also used to believe that becoming an adult meant leaving who you were as a child behind to become someone else, and I even spent a few years trying on different personalities to see which one fit best. Eventually I realized that I had become nothing more exciting than the person I started out as. Maybe it was in that realization that I became an adult for the first time. I wanted to tell her that she’ll spend the rest of her life becoming an adult – that she’ll never really get there – and that the person she’ll become as a grown-up is merely a continuation of the person she is now as a child. She’ll always be her, just a different version of herself. And all the same insecurities and weaknesses and fears that she struggles with now will still be with her, she’ll just get better at pretending that they aren’t. But I knew she wouldn’t understand. I didn’t even understand. She’d have time enough to figure these things out for herself and I was too content living vicariously through their inexperience to pollute it with my perspicacity, so I grabbed a shovel and helped Makayla dig further into the fantastical phantasms of her youth of which I enjoyed so dearly. She faded between her scattered songs and silly chatter as she told me her plans to remove the training wheels from her bicycle sometime soon. I reached down and stole one of the dandelions from her small collection of afternoon treasures and slid it behind her ear between blonde tendrils, and she beamed up at me and giggled for no apparent reason. I envied the easiness of her life in that moment. When the afternoon reached its height and the sun began to bear down on us, the dandelion began to wane, drooping against her sweaty cheek. Makayla dug her hands into the earth and sifted through the wet soil. Her bare toes meandered in blades of grass, the soles of her f Round n Round n Round She Goes... Five "egg-beater" hand drills. These represent an intermediate step between the little Yankee & the big breast drills. They see the most use and are the easiest to find. A lot of them have caps on the end of the handle that unscrew so you can store bits in the handle. The second drill from the left still had its original bits when I got it so I have refrained from using them. These exhibit one of the things about late 19th, early 20th century manufactured goods that interests me - the bright colors and unnecessary flourishes of the drive wheels. The drill all the way to the right would be stronger and easier to make and presumably faster to make as well, although it uses more material. Yet the majority of drills were made like the others. Was this early marketing - "If it looks like the circus it will sell better" or something else? The dominant taste of the times or an unconscious pride in craftsmanship? Anyway there are two Millers Falls #2, a Goodell Pratt # 5 1/2 a small Yankee 1435 all the way to the right and a small Millers Falls next to that. BABY BASSINET MATTRESSES. BABY BASSINET
Baby Bassinet Mattresses
Day 182 Co-Sleeping It's times like this that I wonder how parents who don't co-sleep with their young kids manage. Maggie couldn't sleep last night due to congestion, so I took her from Bryan so that he could get some sleep. Usually when she sleeps with me, she goes down on the mattress on the floor. After only a few minutes, I brought her up on the bed with Carter and me, she was that bad. I was awake most of the night listening to her trying to breathe. I can't imagine trying to care for her without having her there in the bed with me. I wouldn't have gotten any sleep otherwise. I never imagined I would be the type of parent who co-sleeps with their children. I admit, I thought the idea of a "family bed" was a little weird. At first with Maggie, it was just the easiest way for me to feed her every few hours. I tried to put her in the bassinet one night early on, but I couldn't leave her there. I kept trying to see her over the bars of the bassinet. The only place I felt she was safe was right next to me. Whenever Bryan or anyone else asked when she was going to move to her own bed, I put off making any kind of definitive answer. The truth was that I was hooked on having her sleep with me! I couldn't imagine having her sleep anywhere else, much less in a barred crib in a room by herself. I was still nursing her to sleep at night and occasionally during the night up until a few weeks before Carter was born, so I always used that as an excuse. Now as a seasoned parent of two, though, I feel like I shouldn't have to make excuses for parenting the most natural way I know. Mothers in other countries are flabbergasted when they find out how most babies in the U.S. sleep in cribs. Most babies in the world sleep with their mothers. I know it's not for everyone, but it's definitely the best for me and my family. Even though my babies wake up several times during the night, I hardly lose any sleep because I don't have to get up. While I was working, I couldn't imagine not co-sleeping, spending eight to ten hours a day away from Maggie and then putting her to sleep for another ten hours by herself. All logistics aside, I love sharing sleep with my children. Maggie was never a cuddly baby, and she's certainly not grown more cuddly as an independent two-year-old. She does however get cuddly when she sleeps. Carter has always been a better sleeper, and he's not averse to touch like his sister. However, I still can't imagine sleeping without him. I know there'll come a day when they will both sleep in their own beds without Bryan or me. I intend to enjoy every moment with them until that day comes. Day 91 Babies, Babies Everywhere! Marjorie and I were on our own today while Carole went to work. We thought, "Piece of cake!" Were we wrong! We were sorely outnumbered, Carter and Maggie were hung over from their car trip yesterday, and Kaiden had decided that he wasn't going to let two perfect strangers take care of him today, at least not without putting up a fight. In the video, you can hear me ask Marjorie to get a pacifier for him. I think by then we had realized that we should cut him off at the pass and not let him get worked up. The only thing that seemed to calm him (besides a bottle) was to walk him up and down the sidewalk outside. He's pretty heavy, though and that got tiring. We were both pretty happy when Carole got home. Last night I ended up moving our sleeping quarters in the middle of the night. I had to wait for everyone else to go to bed before pulling out the couch, and Maggie was getting really punchy. After I finally got everyone asleep, Bodie, their cat, decided to hop up and check us out. He's a great cat, but a little too friendly, and I was worried that he might try to sleep on the baby's head or wake Maggie up. After fighting with him for an hour to get off the bed, I decided to move the whole shebang into the baby's room. He's still sleeping in a bassinet next to Carole's bed, so now they just use it for his stuff. I carried all our stuff in first, then moved Maggie to the floor, then Carter to his car seat, then the sleeper mattress. It wasn't easy, and Carter started fussing before I could get it all arranged. Then Maggie woke up from the floor and dragged herself halfway onto the mattress before falling asleep again. It was an ordeal, but we, or should I say, I slept much better the rest of the night. It worked out really well, because Maggie took a good nap in there today without being disturbed. BABY ALIVE BOY. ALIVE BOY
Baby Alive Boy
Democratically Speaking ... Most who know me know that I am NOT a debator. I don't like confrontation and am a peace keeper at heart. I like to say what I believe in a kind and respectful manner and hope nobody is offended. I've mastered the art of tactfully explaining or correcting misunderstandings. I would make a terrible lawyer because I don't like vicious attacks and I cannot fathom blatant meanness. However, One thing is for certain, I am not a push over. I have a certain tolerance level with clearly defined lines and if crossed I turn into Mama Bear at a moments notice especially when I feel my cubs are under attack!!! With the presidential debates underway, I feel the need to publicly claim my candidate for presidency. I am a proud democrat and support Barack Obama for President. An old high school classmate recently called me on a comment I made against McCain on my facebook page and began questioning me about my choice for President. She specifically asked me about how I felt about Obama and his vote opposing the "Baby Born Alive Act" and I felt compelled to respond to her ..... Dear Friend, Like you, I am Christian. People tend to believe Christians are more conservative and thus should be Republicans. And that is far from the truth about me but it doesn't make me any less Christian. What I believe is do unto others as you would have done unto you. I also love children and have been blessed to have a very large family with many nieces and nephews and my own son as well!! To me, the beauty of life is our children. However, I know not every woman/family is equipped to take on the responsibility of a child, of birth, of providing a healthy, loving home for these children (healthy, sick or handicapped). In my line of work, I have sadly seen many neglected and abused children brought into the world by women unworthy of motherhood. What breaks my heart even more than the thought of a terminated pregnancy is the thought of a woman who is unfit to be a mother pathetically damaging a child by a lifetime of abuse, physically, mentally and emotionally. It seems a slow and torturous day by day death, which I have also seen. Personally, I do not believe in late term abortions in most cases. However, I do believe in women's rights and the right to choose. In my 3rd trimester of pregnancy, I was very sick, with elevated blood pressure and low platelets, my liver was swelling and I was on the verge of having seizures, going into a coma and ultimately death. My physicians only discussed my health and rarely talked about the baby or the baby's prognosis if born 9 weeks early. I am certain if given the difficult decision of saving my life or the babies, my family would have done everything they could to save mine. Thankfully, because our faith is strong, we were blessed with a beautiful baby boy 9 weeks early, at only 2 lbs 11 oz and 15 inches long ... he stayed hospitalized with other preemies for 30 days before we were able to bring him home at almost 4 lbs!!! Not many in my situation are as lucky. Some women do not survive. Some children are born with life long handicaps and illnesses that these families are not prepared to handle. My point is, there are extreme situations and the Government should not have the power to make that decision for us. In other cases, If the church in America is so upset about these sorts of things then they need to be a part of the lives and struggles of the people to whom this option is given. The real victory over abortion will not happen in a reversal of Roe v. Wade. The real victory will happen when young women are given a support system effective enough to help them make these decisions in a way that considers their child. It isn’t the government’s job. It’s your job and my job to get involved personally in lives in a way that the legislature becomes a non-issue. Senator Obama clearly addressed the issue of the "Baby Born Alive Act" in the last presidential debate. He strongly supports Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose. He believes that there is a moral and ethical element to this issue, and he believes that women do not make these decisions casually, but wrestle with them in consultation with their doctors, pastors and family. Senator Obama understands that some will disagree with him and choose not to support him, and he respects those with different opinions. But the recent attacks on Senator Obama that allege he would allow babies born alive to die are outrageous lies. The suggestion that Obama -- the proud father of two little girls -- and others who opposed these bills supported infanticide is deeply offensive and insulting. There is no room for these kinds of distortions and lies in this campaign. What Senator Obama’s attackers don’t tell you is that existing Illinois law already requires doctors to provide medical care in the very rare case that babies are born alive during abortions. They will not tell you that Obama vote JOJO BABY and SAL-E as wooden dolls 2 In the actual photo shoot I had strings and when the strings were removed.... BABY IN PARENTS BED : BABY IN
Baby In Parents Bed
Good Nights: The Happy Parents' Guide to the Family Bed (and a Peaceful Night's Sleep!) Your baby sleeps in your bed, and you love it. Except for those nagging worries about safety. ("She's so small, I'm so big!") And what your relatives are saying. ("She'll never leave your bed!") And that little foot that always ends up on your face. Worry no more! Good Nights puts your concerns about the family bed to rest, with fun and easy-to-use guidance on safety, coping with criticism, and even keeping the spark in your marriage (albeit outside the bedroom). With warmth and humor, Dr. Jay Gordon, a nationally recognized pediatrician who has endorsed the family bed for decades, and Maria Goodavage, a former USA Today staff writer with training in sleep research, give you everything you'll need in order to thrive - and at times, simply survive - with the family bed. Good Nights provides a comprehensive look at: - SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH - Science is uncovering a wealth of advantages, including possible protection from SIDS, for babies who share their parents' bed. - SURPRISING BENEFITS - Parents of young babies get much more sleep with the family bed! And little ones who spend time sleeping next to parents end up more independent (you read that right!) and closer to their parents than their cribbed peers. - SAFETY - The authors give simple-to-follow advice on how to make your family bed at least as safe as a crib. - SOUND SLEEP - Yes, it can be had. Good Nights lets you know how to overcome the obstacles. - SEX - Ditto. - SAYING GOOD-BYE - Your child really will leave your bed! Good Nights helps you help your child move on when the time is right. If you're among the record number of parents turning to the family bed, turn to Good Nights. It's a bedside companion you won't want to be without. (6) Old Friends The old man you see in the picture is one of my dad's best friends. Though you wouldn't realize it, he was bawling like a baby 20 minutes prior to the photo. Baby on bed 12 A young baby girl wakes up in her parents bed on holiday, ready for an action-packed day baby in parents bed In Parents, director Bob Balaban deconstructs our Father Knows Best perception of '50s suburbia, skewing it via moody cinematography and Angelo Badalamenti's sinister score. Ten-year-old Michael Lamele (Bryan Madorsky) thinks his parents (Randy Quaid and Mary Beth Hurt) are cannibals. His constant fear of his folks and their supposedly evil doings begin to warp his view of the world, and he starts seeing a social worker to confront his problems. Are they merely childhood fears intensified by an overactive imagination, or do Michael's parents really crave human flesh? Much in the way that David Lynch approached the sinister underside of small-town America in Wild at Heart, so too does Balaban challenge our notion of the 'burbs as an escape from the harsh reality of the city. If anything, Michael's parents show their true colors once they become wrapped up in the materialistic, socially predatory world of suburban life. Vastly underappreciated, Balaban's Parents is one of those rare modern horror films that uses psychology to freak you out rather than tossing buckets of blood at you (although there are a few in the film, given its theme). This is one horror film that stands up, and deserves repeated viewings. --Bryan Reesman Similar posts: baby names combinations sewing baby quilts sewing pattern baby booties quilted baby bag christmas activities for babies taylor big baby acoustic guitar adopt your own virtual baby baby products market |

nursery wall art I have a thing for birds, so I decided to put some up in the baby's room. Pottery Barn Kids has these cute small canvases with bird paintings, but they are 1. very pink, 2. very mainstream, and 3. Pottery Barn priced. So naturally, I used the picture from their catalog as inspiration and painted my own dang birds. SO THERE! DEAD BABY JOKES WIKIPEDIA : JOKES WIKIPEDIA
Dead Baby Jokes Wikipedia
Good Faith Collaboration: The Culture of Wikipedia (History and Foundations of Information Science) Wikipedia the encyclopedia is built by a community--a community of Wikipedians who are expected to "assume good faith" when interacting with one another. In Good Faith Collaboration, Joseph Reagle examines this unique collaborative culture. Wikipedia, says Reagle, is not the first effort to create a freely shared, universal encyclopedia; its early twentieth-century ancestors include Paul Otlet's Universal Repository and H. G. Wells's proposal for a World Brain. Both these projects, like Wikipedia, were fuelled by new technology--which at the time included index cards and microfilm. What distinguishes Wikipedia from these and other more recent ventures is Wikipedia's good faith collaborative culture, as seen not only in the writing and editing of articles but also in their discussion pages and edit histories. Keeping an open perspective on both knowledge claims and other contributors, Reagle argues, creates an extraordinary collaborative potential. Wikipedia is famously an encyclopedia "anyone can edit," and Reagle examines Wikipedia's openness and several challenges to it: technical features that limit vandalism to articles; private actions to mitigate potential legal problems; and Wikipedia's own internal bureaucratization. He explores Wikipedia's process of consensus (reviewing a dispute over naming articles on television shows) and examines the way leadership and authority work in an open content community. Wikipedia's style of collaborative production has been imitated, analyzed, and satirized. Despite the social unease over its implications for individual autonomy, institutional authority, and the character (and quality) of cultural products, Wikipedia's good faith collaborative culture has brought us closer than ever to a realization of the century-old pursuit of a universal encyclopedia. (11) J is for Jelly Babies I am so glad it is now the weekend, this week has been tough work-wise, sometimes I really wish I did not have such a stressful job. We played about with these Jelly babies for quite a while after school, we decided on the theme of kids party games and had fun setting these up. The kids liked this one best where they are playing "sleeping lions" and this one is the last one left in :-) 'Sleeping Lions (also known as Dead Dogs or "Dead Fish") is a children's game. All but one or two players are "lions", and lie down on the floor, eyes closed, as if they were sleeping. The remaining one player ("hunters") move about the room attempting to encourage the lions to move. The hunters may not touch the lions, but may move close to them, tell jokes, etc. Any person who moves must stand up and join the hunters. Sleeping lions is also sometimes used in schools as an exercise. All the children will play "lions" and the teacher will play the "hunter". Usually in this case the teacher will make no effort to make the "lions" move, because in this case the real aim of the "game" is to calm the children down after playing other exciting games. Variations of the game can include: dead soldiers, sleeping logs, standing scarecrows, resting tigers. NEWBORN BABY HEAD CIRCUMFERENCE - HEAD CIRCUMFERENCE
Newborn Baby Head Circumference
Low levels of ambient air pollution during pregnancy and fetal growth among term neonates in Brisbane, Australia [An article from: Environmental Research] This digital document is a journal article from Environmental Research, published by Elsevier in 2007. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser. Description: There is mounting evidence that maternal exposure to ambient air pollution during pregnancy is associated with adverse birth outcomes. We examined birth weight and small for gestational age (SGA <10th percentile for age and gender) among 26,617 singleton full-term births in Brisbane, Australia (July 2000-June 2003), in relation to ambient pollution during pregnancy. We also examined head circumference (HC) and crown-heel length (CHL) among a sub-sample (n=21,432) of the term neonates. Maternal exposure to PM"1"0, visibility reducing particles (bsp), O"3 and NO"2 was assessed by calculating average exposure estimates over months and trimesters of pregnancy based on a citywide average of the pollutants. Linear and logistic regression models were employed to examine the effect of these pollutants on the birth outcomes after adjusting for potential confounders and season of birth. The regression coefficients were based on an inter-quartile range (IQR) increase in exposure as well as quartiles of exposure with the lowest used as a reference category. Trimester- and monthly specific exposures to all pollutants were not significantly associated with a reduction in either birth weight or HC, or an increased risk of SGA. An IQR increase in NO"2 during the third trimester was associated with a reduction in CHL (@b=-0.15cm, 95% CI -0.25 to -0.05cm) and this was concentrated around exposure during month nine. No other pollutants were associated with a reduction in CHL. In conclusion, there was no strong evidence suggesting that ambient air pollution during pregnancy is associated with sub-optimal fetal growth in Brisbane. (8) Norwegian Baby Cap This balloon is a bit big -- about 16" in circumference instead of the 13" - 14" for an average newborn's head. Whoops! But I'm sure I can re-block it to not be as stretched, or keep it for later. It's a happy birthday balloon, by the way. hah. Newborn Baby Hat Warm and snuggly newborn baby hat. Color: Yellow Measurements 12" Head circumference, 7" Length from Top -Bottom (from Base of pom-pom to bottom edge) newborn baby head circumference The WHO Multicentre Growth Reference Study (MGRS) was implemented between 1997 and 2003 to generate new curves for assessing the growth and development of children the world over. The MGRS collected primary growth data and related information from 8440 healthy breastfed infants and young children from diverse ethnic backgrounds and cultural settings (Brazil, Ghana, India, Norway, Oman and USA). A key component of the MGRS design was a longitudinal cohort of children who were examined in a sequence of 21 visits starting at birth and ending at 24 months of age. A principal rationale for the longitudinal component was to allow for the development of growth velocity standards. The increments on which the velocity standards are based were calculated using the same longitudinal sample of 882 children and statistical approaches as those used in the construction of the attained growth standards. The velocity standards presented in this report provide a set of tools for monitoring the rapid and changing rate of growth in early childhood and can be used to assess children everywhere, regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic status and type of feeding. (9) Curried Butternut Squash & Carrot Soup I made this last night to use up some vegetables we got at the farmer's market last weekend. Curried Butternut Squash and Carrot Soup (w/ Sourdough Croutons) 1 medium butternut squash, diced 7 medium carrots, sliced 1 stalk celery, sliced 1 large onion 5 cloves garlic, smashed w/ back of a knife 1/2 in. piece of ginger, peeled and grated curry powder cumin cayenne pepper salt & pepper olive oil butter 1 can chicken broth 1/3 c. coconut milk 1/2 sourdough baguette, preferably stale Heat a splash of olive oil and some butter in a heavy soup pot (I have a Le Creuset that I always use for soup) over high heat. Add onions and saute until they start to sweat. Add carrots and celery and saute for a few minutes until you start to get some color on the bottom of the pan. Add butternut squash, garlic and ginger. Cook, stirring ocasionally, over medium heat until squash starts to get soft and break down a little. Add some curry powder, cumin, cayenne, salt and pepper (I wasn't measuring-- so I don't know how much. It should smell very fragrant and color any liquid in the pot yellow, but not be so strong that you don't smell the vegetables and onions at all. You can always add more later). Cook for a few minutes, then add the chicken stock. Bring to a boil and simmer until the vegetables are soft. Remove from heat and let cool somewhat. Use a potato masher to mash the vegetables into smaller pieces. Puree the soup in the food processor, leaving 1/3 un-pureed (for texture- I hate soup that reminds me of baby food) Return pureed soup to pot, bring back to a simmer, and stir in 1/3 c. coconut milk (this is optional if you want a healthier soup.) Serve with croutons. Yum! This made enough to feed me and Adam big bowls for dinner last night , and there's enough left for me to have for lunch today. For croutons: (you can make these while the soup is cooking) cut bread into chunks and toss in a bowl with a little bit of melted butter and a splash of olive oil. I seasoned with a bit of curry powder, salt and garlic powder-- but they'd be just fine plain. Bake at 350 until they get golden and crunchy, turning after a little while so they cook evenly. sweet potato soup 2 medium sweet potatoes 1 – 2 carrots 2 shallots lots of garlic (the husband is sick) some ginger for good measure (again, sick husband) maybe 2 1/2 teaspoons madras curry powder 1 1/2 cups of coconut milk, more or less the last of the broth that’s been at the back of the refrigerator for what is probably an unsafe amount of time some water, which depends on how much of the other liquid you have (do you want soup or baby food?) salt and pepper cilantro is a good garnish Chop up your vegetables and put them in a pot of hot oil. I like to cook mine until they get nice and brown and crispy. Add the curry powder and stir it all up. Add just enough broth or water so that you can scrape all of the good stuff off of the bottom of the pan. Add the coconut milk and the rest of the broth. Initially, I think I used about a cup of broth. Bring the soup to a boil, then simmer until the potatoes are nice and mushy. If you are lucky enough (I am!) to have an immersion blender, now is the time to use it. Otherwise, puree the soup in a food processor or blender, but be careful. I cannot stress this enough. Thick, scalding mush on your body hurts. IT HURTS. Once your soup is nice and silky, check the thickness, saltiness, flavor, etc. to see if you need to make any additions. Unfortunately, you cannot make any subtractions at this point. Don’t worry, it’s not necessary.
