Patti LaBelle was a sensation at the 2011 BET Awards, Cee Lo Green, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige and others paid tribute to Patti LaBelle at the 2011 BET Awards. Gladys Knight presented Patti LaBelle with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Both Patti LaBelle and Bobby Martin were both Honored and were both paid tribute at the 2011 BET Awards and at the 2011 Pre BET Awards! The Famous "Bobby Martin" (Robert Martin) discovered Patti LaBelle in 1962, Bobby Martin also produced and composed Patti LaBelles (Patti LaBelle and The Bluebells) first album! In 1962 the legendary producer (Bobby Martin) suggested that Patricia Louise Holte change her name to Patti LaBelle! Bobby Martin Produced Patti LaBelles hit song "I Sold My Heart To The Junkman". "Bobby Martin produced it", "he arranged it", "he remixed the song for Patti in 1962" and that was the start of Patti LaBelles huge success! The Legendary Grammy Award winning R&B producer is also known as The Granddaddy of R&B! They say that he's the granddaddy of them all. Bobby Martin discovered, produced and arranged many platinum gold award winning recording artists, "literally hundreds of groups and solo artists"! And so Patti LaBelle was on stage singing out to Bobby Martin and to all of her loving fans at the 2011 BET Awards. Patti LaBelle has been electrifying audiences worldwide with her powerhouse vocals for nearly 50 years. The former lead singer of Labelle (best known for the soul classic “Lady Marmalade”) enjoyed superstar solo success in the 80s with hit songs like “On My Own," “New Attitude,” “Stir It Up” and “If You Asked Me To.” In 2008, she reteamed with former LaBelle members Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash for the album Back to Now. Patti has also worked as an actress over the years appearing in both A Soldier's Story and TV sitcom A Different World. It seems like the whole world just loves Patti LaBelle, she got a standing ovation at the 2011 BET Awards! Patti stepped on stage and grabbed a microphone and then she sang a pair of hits, including the breakthrough hit "Lady Marmalade." Steve Harvey and LaBelle were among dozens of artists recognized at the BET Awards, which were presented at the Shrine Auditorium. The night's leading nominee, Chris Brown, collected four awards in all. The 21-year-old singer won a pair of prizes early in the show and two fan-voted awards at the end of the ceremony. Brown was named best male R&B artist and won best collaboration for his song "Look At Me Now" with Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes. Brown accepted the collaboration award after performing a medley that including the winning track. "Public-speaking is not my strong suit," he said, thanking BET and his fans before passing the microphone to Wayne, who expressed gratitude to Brown for including him on the track. Busta Rhymes rapped his acceptance. Earlier in the ceremony, Brown also thanked his fans and the network: "I appreciate all the support. I know it's been a long road, so I appreciate every blessing in front of me." Lil Wayne also came on stage when Nicki Minaj accepted her award for best female hip-hop artist. "I can't believe for the first time I get to share a moment like this with the person who saw me rapping on a staircase," she said of the rapper and producer, who was incarcerated when she won the same prize last year. "Lil Wayne, I love you." Minaj was joined by Justin Bieber to present the male hip-hop artist award later in the show. Kanye West won but wasn't on hand to accept the trophy. Instead of traditional awards-show winners' envelopes, winners were revealed on a tablet device provided by Sprint. But the tablet proved tricky when it was time to announce the winner of the Viewers' Choice award. A fan was brought on stage to announce the winner, and she initially said Brown won. Then she corrected herself to say Rihanna won, and Drake came on stage to claim the trophy. After a commercial break, host Kevin Hart clarified that "there was a mistake," and Brown had indeed been the viewers' choice. Other winners included Diddy Dirty Money, named best group, and Jaden Smith and Willow Smith, who tied as winners of the Young Stars award. But the show was really about the performances, which were plentiful. Mary J. Blige opened the ceremony, performing her hits "All Night Long" and "Real Love" before being joined by Anita Baker. The divas performed a duet of "Caught Up in the Rapture." Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled and Ace Hood shared the stage for "Hustle Hard." Alicia Keys unveiled a new song, before lapsing into "A Woman's Worth," for which she was joined by Bruno Mars, and her hit, "Fallin'." Jill Scott sang in a speakeasy setting. Trey Songz took off his shirt during his performance, even after host Kevin Hart said the young singer looks "like a beige gr
all that glitters is not gold
All that glisters is not gold;
Often have you heard that told:
Many a man his life hath sold
But my outside to behold:
Gilded tombs do worms enfold.
Had you been as wise as bold,
Young in limbs, in judgement old
Your answer had not been inscroll'd
Fare you well, your suit is cold.
