While looking for quarters to buy a soda with the wife pulled a rarity out of my change jar. Shaking her plunder in her hand as she walked out of the room something didn't sound right. Upon closer inspection It turned out to be a 1934 silver quarter that was still rolling around in circulation.

Silver Tuareg Cross

My latest photography project was to photograph between one and three things (objects, food, etc) that represent our "culture" or "cultural background".

I chose to show everyone about Nigeria and how, to me at least, it's my most important culture.

This is a cross made by the nomadic West African Tuareg Tribe in Niger. My father bought at some point (prior to my birth I believe) and it's now become one of my favourite pieces of jewelry.

The (Muslim) Tuareg believe that the points/arms will disperse evil away from the wearer and they are often given to children when they leave home. Many wear one though for good luck and protection.

Much to my disappointment / anger / frustration the point (another ball) at the bottom is concealed behind a fold of cloth. If I remember correctly, the reason I didn't move that fold was that it was stopping the cross from sliding down.

French Huguenot cross - St Amand les Eaux

The Huguenot cross is a Christian religious symbol originating in France and is one of the more recognisable and popular symbols of the evangelical reformed faith. It is commonly found today as a piece of jewellery (in gold or silver) or engraved on buildings connected with the Reformed Church in France. It also forms part of the official logo of the Reformed Church in France.

The Elizabeth Cross

Introduced in July 2009, the Elizabeth Cross, and a Memorial Scroll is issued to the families of Service personnel who have died on operations or as a result of terrorist action since 1st January 1948.

This is not a posthumous medal for the fallen, but is tangible national recognition for their families in recognition of their tragic loss and sacrifice.

The Elizabeth Cross is made of hallmarked silver and is in the form of a cross with a laurel wreath passing between the arms. The arms of the cross bear floral symbols representing England (Rose), Scotland (Thistle), Ireland (Shamrock) and Wales (Daffodil). The centre of the cross bears the Crowned Cypher of Her Majesty The Queen. The reverse of the cross will be engraved with the name of the Service person in whose memory it is granted.

A miniature version of the Elizabeth Cross will also be granted. Both will be presented in a black leather-style presentation box with the Royal Cypher on the lid and the Royal Coat of Arms on the inner silk lining.

ADM 428W 106 LVT & AVG 538W

This car, chassis number 1017, is the first production Bentley Mulsanne made (the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit/Bentley Mulsanne chassis number sequence commenced at 1001) and was used on the World Press Launch of this new model range at Mulsanne in France.

There were 2 "pre production" cars - One of those was crashed, the other distroyed.

At the time there was 1 Bentley produced for every 10 Rolls Royce !

Factory build sheets dated May 1980 (when the Shadow II/T2 range was still in production) record it as ACH 1017 SZ Project Launch Car, the "Mulsanne" name having not yet been finalised. The car was finished in magnolia with Brazil Parkertex trim and first registered "1900 TU" to Rolls-Royce Motors Ltd on 1st September 1980, some months before the range was released for public sale.

In March 1981 it was replaced as the factory demonstrator by a Georgian Silver Mulsanne and re-registered "ADM 428W", which it retained for many years until disposed of by Rolls-Royce in August 1995.

In 1983 ACH 1017 was repainted in Paprika metallic (a Camargue option) by Rolls-Royce, while various specification changes were tried out, such as twin headlamps, alloy wheels and leather steering wheel, all of which were later standardised and are retained by the car to this day.

It is on record as serving with the Chauffeurs School for many years following a period as the Managing Director's personal transport.

Rolls-Royce Motors correspondence indicates that the car's first post-factory owner was a Mr Adrian Hall Carpenter.

Purchased by Arthur in 2003 years ago, the vehicle has undergone extensive refurbishment, including a high-class re-spray, renovation of the 1990-specification alloy wheels and comprehensive detailing of the engine compartment, interior and under-body

Because I wanted to keep the textured finish, I didn't get to use the buffer, but that's okay...next time for sure!
