So if I want I can push the back into the bean bag and have a cozy little 'hole' to put the baby in. Also, if the chair isn't firm enough, I take a rubber band or hair tie, gather up some extra fabric and hold it with the hairtie. When it won't cooperate, I add extra blankets or towels where needed for support. This particular shot I had the bean bag on the ground, a layer of white fleece over the bag attached to the backdrop stand, then a HUGE sheepskin (at least 5'x10') with medium hairs over the fleece, and finally a layer of microplush material. I like microplush the best because its soft, falls and scretches smoothly, and resists wrinkles. Then, with a very full baby I lay her down (she liked being on her back the most) then slowly work her into position with mama patting her back if she gets a little fussy. When I take the picture, I get right down at eye level, or slightly below, stretch the front of the material down, so it doesn't bunch and cover her face, hold it tight with my foot and snap away. I keep a wide aperture so that the background will appear smooth and I can focus the attention where I want it. Also set focus on the eyes (even if they are closed). I found my center focus point is the only one I trust (the outer points are not reliable until after f/2.8 and even then I don't trust them) so I focus and recompose, taking care not to move out of the focal plane. PS. If you wonder what I am doing... it was reeeeaaaaallllllly hot in there, I'm pretty sure I was pushing back my hair, but I'm not totally sure.
