THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW YOUR CELL PHONE COULD DO !!!
There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies.
Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for
survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:
FIRST Subject: Emergency
The Emergency Number
worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage
area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and
the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency
number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if
the keypad is locked. Try it out.
SECOND Subject: Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does
your car have remote keyless entry? This may
come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock
your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at
home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone
about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press
the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your
car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.
Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you
can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can
unlock the doors (or the trunk). Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried
it out and it unlocked our car over
a cell phone!"
THIRD Subject: Hidden Battery Power
Imagine your cell
battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will
restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase
in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell
next time.
FOURTH Subject: How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 # A 15 digit
code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset.
Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen,
you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will
then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM
card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your
phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell
it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people
stealing mobile phones.
And Finally.... FIFTH Subject:
Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for
411 information calls when they don't have to. Most of us do not carry
a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even
more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information option,
simply dial: (800) FREE 411, or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any
charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.

The prominent net huts on the beach in Hastings Old Town are made of clinker weather boarding and stand an average of 25 feet high. In 1934 the Borough Council restricted the area allowed for each net hut to eight square feet because of the limited space between the cliffs and the sea. The Mentzendorff's House – a branch of the Riga Museum of History and Navigation – brings you into the cozy atmosphere of the 17th –18th century dwelling house. Having been opened since May 18, 1992, it is the only museum presenting social culture traditions of wealthy Rigans. The house built in 1695 and up to 1939 it has been a dwelling house with storage rooms and a shop.
Magnificent and original wall and ceiling paintings (17th –18th century) are the basis of the exposition. A fine selection of interior objects from the Riga Museum of History and Navigation conforms to these colourful visions of the past. Visitors are welcome to visit a shop room, a kitchen with a unique mantel-chimney, a saloon, a dancing hall, a “Poet's room”, a family chapel, premises of the owner of the house, a “Young girl's room”. As well as, explore the vaults of the historical cellar, and enjoy exhibition up in the attic exhibition hall.
Museum is named after the family name of the last family who lived in this house – the Mentzendorffs. In the turn of the 19th /20th century. August Mentzendorff - the owner of this house - sold the best coffee in town. Descendants of August Mencendorff still maintain relations with the museum and support it.
In the 17th century the house belonged to a glazier Jurgen Helm and now the Mentzendorff's House is a home for a Glass Art and Study Centre where any visitor can watch glass transforming into a piece of art or become a glass artist him/herself by arranging it in advance.

Singapore National Day
With fireworks bursting in the hot August air, we University of California students take a moment to come together and smile for a brief moment capturing not only the bursts of fireworks, but also the bursts of laughter we've had getting to know each other. It was only one week earlier that we met, but when you're abroad in a foreign country, you feel like your fellow University of California college students are like long lost family.
We spend the day in awe of Singapore’s Independence Day parades, concerts, and firework show. They all felt orchestrated in a way that seemed like it was just for us EAPers. Traveling to Singapore’s harbor front and experiencing a national holiday with Singaporeans yelling “HAPPY NATIONAL DAY” was all the more exciting with my new friends who blended in with the flag of Singapore painted on their faces.This is the first group picture we took, but that night took us by surprise as the Singapore’s National Service put on an impressive show of jet planes, tanks, and parades showing off Singapore’s pride as a country. As I look at the smiles on our faces on that August 9th night in Singapore, I remember celebrating Singapore’s independence with new friends independent for the very first time in another land of great food, great culture, and most importantly, great people. The semester was as bright as the fireworks, and it showed on all our young bright faces.

This series is a small collective showcase of the places that have touched Aaron Lim’s heart deeply. Living in a developed city like Singapore, the photographer has always made an effort to explore interesting places around the world and inspire people to care about the planet. If he were to define his professional direction, it would be to ‘go forth and marvel at nature’.
Aaron Lim is also the Grand Prize winner and Nature category winner for National Geographic Photo Contest 2010.

This is an effect due to improper lighting I guess- The things that appear to be embossed here( the eyes and the mouth) are actually depressions.

MEANWHILE IN DOCTOR PACIFICA'S SECRET MID-OCEAN LAIR...
I'm going to use this set to cache shots using models, toys and action figures. Some of them will also show up in the Xmas Cards section.
Okay, our office Xmas party was full of creative types so we started playing with cameras and seeing what we could come up with on the spot. Anyhoo, I collected a box of stuff from around the place and set it all up as a kind of Supervillain Lair.
Took the shot, photoshopped it, added in a seaside backdrop I took at the beach and viola.
Found objects include a sticky tape box gun, a can of deodorant, a keyring in the shape of a little bloke, self-inking stamps, a reception bell, broken toilet roll holder, batteries, battery charger, a broken toy soldier...all set up inside an office step stool. HAd some more fun painting in the rocket later on.
Guess this is the photo equivalent of doodling or whittling wood!

2010-01-30 (Panorama!)
The next morning at Lamont's house there was a loud crack and sliding noise around 8 a.m. Nobody in the house seemed to hear it but me, and I thought it was just ice breaking and sliding off the roof. Turns out it was a tree destroying power lines next door. I didn't even find out until Lamont's roommate, Claire, started talking excitedly to herself in her bedroom.
Nyronn - "Uh, what's she doing?"
Me - "She's just weird. It's probably nothing." (I should probably mention at this point that Claire talks like a toddler in every way you can imagine.)
Nyronn - "It sounds like there's something wrong."
Me - "Fine."
Oh, there's a tree down. Yes, Claire, it could have hit our roof, but it didn't. Go back to sleep. (This photo is actually three photos stitched together in Windows Live Photo Gallery)
Driving home to Antioch was an adventure. Murfreesboro Road between Lavergne and Bell Road was almost a solid sheet of ice. There are lots of large hills through there, and for some reason, a group of vehicles that included an ambulance decided that it was smart to slow down going down one hill, even though that hill was already iced up. I decided it was smarter to gain speed for the next hill, sped up, and passed the whole group (who I discovered were doing less than ten mile per hour) by going into the oncoming lanes.
The guy driving the ambulance got on his PA and yelled at me to slow down. I flipped him off. You may be qualified to bring people back from the dead, sir, but you obviously never learned how to drive in the snow, and I bet you ended up having to help one of your group after they didn't make it up that next hill.
Awesome Azaleas
One of my students brought me these beautiful sprays of azalea from her bush today, and just couldn't help reaching for the camera, they were so gorgeous!
Pretty much SOOC except for slight adjustment to contrast and brightness in Windows Live Photo Gallery.

250/365: Shop 'Til I Drop
You are, basically, looking at my life right here. I love catalogues, Amazon.com, online shopping, etc. Almost every day is "Christmas" and I get to open a present. :-) Now, don't go feeling sorry for me, though. I keep my credit card do-able, where it can be paid off immediately, if necessary. (Well, until I put the computer on it. But that will be rectified in a couple of months.)
For the big stuff that won't fit in the package slot of my mailbox, my mailman considers it a challenge. He loves to "sneak up" to my house and try to get it on the front porch behind a hidey-nook before my dog, Supie, figures out that he is there. Most of the time, she's right on the job. But, when he succeeds, you can see him doing a little happydance and thumbing his nose at her ... Neener! Neener!

I got tagged a long time ago but I'm just getting around to it now.
Here's 10 things you might not know about me.
1. I am turning 21 in 6 months. I’m hoping to spend my birthday in Vegas. If that doesn’t work out you’ll be seeing my drunk ass at every bar in SD. The thing I’m most excited for is not getting to buy alcohol - it’s getting into the 21+ concerts.
2. If I could have any superpower in the world it would be to make everyone magically bust out into song and dance. I wish my life was more like a musical. But one where I could sing well- I’m an absolutely terrible singer.
3. I’m wondering how I ever lived without my iPhone. I’m obsessed with it and I have 6 pages of stupid apps for it. This is the first ‘cool’ phone I’ve ever had.
4. My favorite food is probably french fries. Followed closely by certain kinds of pasta, cupcakes, and raspberry sorbet.
5. The other day I bought 5 packs of Polaroid film for $15 from a gas station. I’m excited to play with it but scared to take a bunch of stupid photos because I don’t know when I’ll come across the film again - especially not for $3 a pack like I did.
6. People who have known me on the internet before they’ve met me in person usually discover that I’m not as cool and awesome as they thought I would be. I’m a huge dork. Ask my friend Kim.
7. I don’t know if I remember how to ride a bicycle. When I was in 7th grade I was riding my beach cruiser and hit a mailbox and flipped over, fell off and got a concussion. I haven’t been on one since.
8. I’m a busy person. I’m always busier than I think I am. Right now I’m going to school, working two jobs AND trying to maintain both my relationship with my girlfriend Crystal and a social life.
9. Since I’m so busy, I barely have time to take photos and I definitely I don’t always have time for flickr. It makes me feel really bad when people on the internet talk about what a shitty, unfriendly person I am for not being able to respond to things.
10. I’ve always been an artist, but I never wanted to be a photographer. It was never one of my dreams. It just kind of happened and I couldn’t be happier.
67/365 - The Adventures of...
Had my first Pioneer meeting today. :] *yay!*
And then... we went over to a friend's house for dinner. :) Turkey, mash potatoes, and greenbeans with bacon.. OO! And stuffing. ^-^ It was superb, and my diet was on halt for today's dinner.
I brought along my laptop, and showed everyone, and we all began messing around with Photo Booth... everyone loved the effects, and we called ourselves.. well.. I'll just leave it at that. On of the effects made us look totally Asian (although we already are...), it was all just busted up laughing.
Hien and I messed around with the blue effect, and I called us Avatars...
But we had enough fun for one night.. So we headed to the living room, and had a really cool guitar jam session. A total of four guitars were playing at once, and it was hectic, but we came together to play some Kingdom Melodies. :]
I definitely wanna have another little dinner and jam like that again. It was totally laid back, and we just played whatever...
Oh! And then a discussion between Hien, Robert, Lawrie and I came up about the song "Hotel California" and it being about a hotel that was a "brothel"... which I related "brothel" to "The House Bunny" where she says "Oh I'm not looking to make soup..". :P
Lawrie calls the song Demo (Demonic) because she thinks it's about a whorehouse.. (Brothel).. and Robert, Hien and I just laugh about her comment.. and continue singing the song.
WELL.. I gotta head off. Time to do some homework. Tomorrow I'm heading into school to work on a final presentation with a few friends, and hopefully I'll get a better start to my essay due on Wednesday..
P.S. I bought a Lomography Diana F+ camera today... :/ Not sure if I should keep it, or return it.
I wanna keep it, but IDK. Oh! And I ordered a camera bag today too.. I think I'll just keep the camera.. I need to exchange it tomorrow though..
