A house in Luang Namtha
There is grid connection from China in Muang Namtha, provincial capital of Luang Namtha province. 5 years ago, this district used diesel generator between 6-10pm. After that, no power supply. Diesel generator was costly.
From 4-5 years ago, electricity has been imported from Yunnan province. Then electricity tariff is much higher than EdL tariff. (EdL is a state owned public utility.)
The authority shows guidance that each household is not allowed to air-con. Otherwise electricity is not supplied.
Many local people also use solar water heater system. I have not seen it in other provinces. The system is imported from China. It is also not expensive. Local people can obtain it in market easily.
Now the national grid is extending to that province. Next year, the grid will be extended from Nam Ngum to Luang Namtha province. After all, local people will reduce expenditure for electricity.
