The Magical Flying Gazebo almost flew away again today..
Some of you will remember the story of how the 10’ x 10’ free-standing metal gazebo took off from our patio and flew over the house like Dorothy’s house at the beginning of The Wizard of Oz and landed in the street in front of the house. It was laying in the ditch, like dead horse, with all four feet straight up in the air.. I had to dismantle it to drag it back into my yard and re-assemble the pieces after I hammered them back into shape.
It was a bit of a miracle that it went straight up and over the house without damaging the roof or at least ripping the utility lines out as it went. Besides the hammering and a bit of touch-up paint, it needed a new canopy, which we found and put on, and it’s almost as good as new. I got some chain and hooks to tie it down and make sure it didn’t take off again, but I only put one chain on before more pressing issues popped up.
But today, Amanda called Jo Ann, and said that the gazebo was hovering outside.. I picture it very much like young albatrosses hovering over their nests – testing their wings as they get ready to take flight.. She said it was about 8 inches off the ground, and lifting and setting down. When I got home, it was twisted on the patio, like a dolls house that had been put away hastily. So, I got some rope and some hooks and tied it to the house..
It's kinda sad, in a way, to tie something that's meant to be free - like the magical flying gazebo to the earth that way... (wipes tear from cheek...)

This is a crop of an 8 x 10 plate. Shooting a 3 year old is somewhat of a task but I gave it a good try! This one came out the best out of 3 attempts. This one was twelve seconds at f4.5
